TMOS Reviews Thread - Non Spoiler Review and Discussion - Part 3

I think the reviews are not as negative as they might seem. Even the bad ones are a C or 3-5 stars. It's a 7/10. That's by no means a bad movie. A bad movie is a 4/10.. I do think the negatives don't seem that negative to me.
That's something I've noticed as well. Some of the reviews on RT I read and by the end I would expect it to be a (relatively) 'fresh' rating only to see it listed as 'rotten'

If nothing else at least the reviews being less than stellar has grounded my expectations. Otherwise I think I would have gone into this movie with my own expectations way too high. Now I feel like I can take this movie for what it is, for better or for worse.

Hope you aren't basing this on old movie ratings on RT which shouldn't be considered by anyone.

When those films first came out critics hated them.

Critics have been wrong since the beginning of critics and critics are still nonsensical today. Why listen to them when they have a horrible track record?

Some of these reviews are incredibly stupid. "Too much action"- really?

The superman origin, like batman and spiderman, are pretty much archetypes for every other origin story told.

The Superman origin story so much so that megamind, a film for children, can riff on it.

A reference that went RIGHT OVER kids' heads. They may know OF Superman, but other than maybe knowing what he looks like and that he flies, they know next to nothing about the character.

How many kids do you think got the Brando references in the film? None. (there are plenty of references in Megamind for adults too, and that's okay - it makes it entertaining for adults and kids, but it's pretty much a given that people from my generation DON'T know who Superman is as a character).

He refers to him as "Captaaaaaaain Americaaaaaaa!!" :cap:

He had a Spider-Man themed birthday party this year, but he had a Thomas the Tank Engine cake. My sister, she just said, "That's the one he picked, I don't know..." :funny:

Kid's priorities are all over the place.
Little ones know what they like and that is all that matters. Plus, Thomas is a badass.

At least I still got to see Star Trek again.
I need to do that. I was kinda of in love after the first viewing.

Just saying. :oldrazz:

[BLACKOUT]I'm a little worried. :csad:[/BLACKOUT]

Haha, dude, chill, we're at 69%, not 27% or whatever Green Lantern's current score is. It'll probably go back into the 70s and settle there.

I just got back from seeing this at a free early screening. I don't know what these critics are on but this movie was PHENOMENAL! Its up there with the classic Donner film and I dare say surpasses it. I got the same feeling I got after I watched Batman Begins for the first time in theaters, fanboy goosebumps and excitement for future movies. I really couldn't find any real negative in this movie honestly. Well I take that back, I would have like to have seen him use his freeze or super breath, thats the only power we do not see him do in this movie. And some other things I will say in the spoiler thread. The cast was fantastic all around and the action is insane. If you thought the final battle in Avengers had alot of descrution, wait until you see the last 30 mins of this movie. For people that haven't seen this yet, you all are in for a hell of a ride 9/10 for me. P.S 3D isn't worth it in my opinion, I felt like I was watching a 2D movie with 3D glasses on.

This is what every non critic has said to me so far. Even the die hard Dark Knight fans.

WHO DO I BELIEVE???

Okay, so the people who disliked this movie say:

- There's too much action
- It's "too serious"
- Not enough "comedy"
- "Too much" plot
- Are mad the origin is being retold (35 years, it's about time)
- Are bitter it's not a Superman Returns follow-up

All of these "criticisms" ^^ are GOOD THINGS to me and only make me more excited for the film.

Are we still having this conversation? Do people still not know how RT works?

The general audience has been right more times than the critics have been since the beginning of film. :cwink:

Awesome, great to hear. It's reactions like this I am expecting from the GA. I have no doubt this movie will deliver.

Hrm. Cool. Guess this jibes with my expectation of the GA enjoying it more. I mean, it's not much, but this is a start.

The bottom line is General Audiences are going too eat this up. Its going to be everything people wanted from Iron Man and didn't feel like they got. I like Transformers 1 I LOATHE Transformers 2, And with a descent sound chair, a 3D blu ray copy, and a little inspiration, i have times when i really enjoy Transformers 3. When done properly a little over the top action can go a long way in public opinion. 60% 75% 80%, doesn't matter, because if word of mouth spreads like i think it will i wouldn't be surprised if 200 million isn't out of the question by Monday.

Just got back from an advanced 3D Screening. 8/10 for me. WB would be crazy not to build off this to start a Justice League.

Reading the negative reviews, I'm no longer worried at all. Their complaints are pretty stupid.

He is certainly my favorite Superhero writer. But Neil Gaiman's Sandman just might be the pinnacle of the medium to me.
The heyday of Vertigo is something else. I don't even like to bring up Sandman or Preacher in these discussion. A different class imo.

Thank god critics don't run studios.

I love Thomas. My fake British accent singing along with that theme song is pretty damn good.

He's into Star Wars a little now too. He had a Han Solo figure with a little Anakin figure, and explained, "He's with his daddy!" Sure, why not? :oldrazz:

I need to do that. I was kinda of in love after the first viewing.

I've seen it 3 times now. Still love it.
