I have noticed that these threads(this and the manip) dont move as fast anymore with out the talk about the other guy and movie.

Of course not. TW isn't Superman, and he never will be. He's a great Clark Kent though............

Well, it also doesn't help that Smallville's in repeats until December 8 either.

so what is he going to be at the end of the show? Clark Kent with a costume? I dont get the bug up people's butt about this distinction, for chrissake's Dean Cain was Superman for a time... Sure Welling may never be Supes in a feature movie but if thats your criteria for "being Superman" than you can also discount George Reeves and Kirk Alyn...

Welling plays a young Clark Kent/Superman... He has (most of) the powers, helps people, and is working on the motivation. If his character was solely a bumbling journalism student that didnt have any powers then perhaps I could see your point.. Besides that, I think you've been losing that PR campaign for the past 5 years, as I cant think of one media publication that doesnt refer to the guy as "Superman" in one way or the other, even when its not Smallville related

If your contending that because he hasnt worn the suit he's not Supes, than I'd say you've been too polluted by the John Byrne way of thinking that Clark Kent is just a guy who puts on a costume to become Superman....

It's like that genius "King Krypton" over in the SR forums who would swear his life to the fact that John Byrne was a hack and Superman was always the real person and Clark Kent was the disguise (and I'd wholeheartedly agree) but yet in his next sentence he'll tell you how Welling isn't Superman? You cant have that one both ways

You never know as I said before we just might get a shirt ripp and thats it. I mean come on now it cost money for a Superman outfit and if it is not going to be put into use. Then why go into great detail with it. To be honest I woud love to see TW as Superman but when that season airs they will be already working on the next Superman movie or about to maybe put out a teaser for it that I doubt we'll see much action of him as Superman. I am thinking what they are going to do is just a cry for help then a shirt rip.

Well you REALLY missed the point of my post, but I'll entertain your post anyway. Regardless of how long it is, or if its a full shot in costume or just a shirt rip, the same point comes across, and they'll likely mimic one of the previous costume looks instead of spending a ton of money to come up with a "original" design. Whether or not SR gets a sequel (which still remains to be seen considering the $$ that thing is going to have to pull in to cover it's costs) is irrelevant to the show, WB has already committed to having two versions of the character in different mediums.

WB committed to having two younger Superman's not 2 Supermen. Unless you count the one from JLU. Welling is SIT I wished he would turn into more but it is very doubtful. Hell they might even change their mind and not use an outfit at all. Plus Superman Returns will have a sequel I mean come on name alone will bring back the money. Look at Star Wars and some of the James Bond movies.

You're right - Kirk Alyn, George Reeves, and Dean Cain were all Superman in their respective TV series. Meaning they were in Metropolis as a reporter and they were indeed Superman (suit and all). I never said anything about a film in my post.

Welling plays a young Clark Kent/Superman... He has (most of) the powers, helps people, and is working on the motivation. If his character was solely a bumbling journalism student that didnt have any powers then perhaps I could see your point.. No, he plays a young Clark Kent that hasn't even thought of going by the name of SUPERMAN yet. He's learning his heritage, his powers, and how to use them in the most effective way. That's not Superman, at least not yet.

If your contending that because he hasnt worn the suit he's not Supes, than I'd say you've been too polluted by the John Byrne way of thinking that Clark Kent is just a guy who puts on a costume to become Superman....

No, I don't. I don't subscribe to this whole pre-crisis/post-crisis/continuity crap. He's not in Metropolis and he doesn't have a dual identity yet. To me, that's Superman. The suit does have something to do with it.

That guy is hilarious.

Sorry that is incorrect. Tell him what he's won.
Well a trip far away from the cold surroundings of the Tom Welling as Superman Thread, where he'll be able to enjoy a lifetime of debating whether Tom Welling is Superman or not.

That sentence in your post is not for this thread. Come in, post what he brings to the Superman table, or get out and find a thread designed to debate your line of thinking.

Now you'd think thats a back handed comment, but its not. I'll gladly take this thread moving at a snails pace, as opposed to ever having to bring that debate/topic over here again.

ARGH!! Is it the "new year" yet?

This rhetorical brought to you by the letters, Q and T. Gah!!!!! :(

OK, thats what I was getting at, whcih is what in your mind is the difference between Clark Kent with powers and Superman.

I guess I can see your point, however I'd argue that Clark in Smallville is closer to Superman than he is to the "Clark Kent" that shows up in Metropolis later on down the line. And that the "dual identity" actually is the creation of the facade known as "Clark Kent" i.e. bumbling reporter, mild-mannered, etc. rather than the onset of the Superman personality. He's more or less "Superman in the shadows" right now, doing the deeds without anyone knowing it...but yes he still has a lot to learn.

I guess all of this will be rendered moot anyway in the final few shows when Clark actually dons some form of the suit anyway...

I still can't see how they are going to say Lex is one of the smartest people on the face of the earth. Yet he has now seen Clark with out glasses for 7 years and can't tell he is Superman.

funny thing, if you google "Tom Welling Superman" or "Tom Welling is Superman" you get more results than the other guy's name with "Superman", considering TW is playing Clark Kent, right? lol.

You're putting words in people's mouths that were never said, no distinction was ever made by the WB other than that they were going ahead with "Superman" (their words not mine) in both mediums.

Plus Superman Returns will have a sequel I mean come on name alone will bring back the money. Look at Star Wars and some of the James Bond movies.

I think you way overestimate the appeal of Superman in todays youth. I pretty much had to beat him into my nephews (ages 8 - 12) I really wish that wasnt the case. And I dont believe any of the SW films, and surely none of the Bond films, had a $250 million budget before marketing... It's not impossible mind you, but it's a big hole to crawl out of. Anyway, enough of the SR talk, it wasnt the point of my comment anyway...

and thats different from any other time in comics, TV, and movies when he's seen both Clark and Superman up close? Not too mention when he actually grew up with Superboy in the Silver Age

When you think about it though, he really is being Superman, he just doesnt let the general public see that he has these special powers.

As Chloe said in Arrival, you save all these peoples' lives and take zero credit for it. The time will come when he'll realise that he can save more lives by being public, and that's when you'll see the dual identity.

However right now for me, he is being Superman he just hasnt figured out how far to go with it all.

The thing is, who's to say he wont?

How I hate people who post just to stir the pot.

Hmmm... I think there's a name for that, but it escapes me at the moment.
