Tom Welling as Superman

Surprised? Hollywood will be, too, and, according to my source, the Writers Guild of America is counting on it.

Here's the deal: TV and movie scribes are already up in arms over issues such as compensation for new media (translation: Internet downloads) and they're primed to strike. But the suits have been content to reassure themselves that it won't happen any sooner than spring, when the Screen Actors Guild contract is up as well and both groups can walk picket lines together.

Instead of waiting, however, WGA members received an e-mail just moments ago announcing a strike authorization vote — the results of which could be revealed in the next 10 days. If they vote to strike, the group could pack up their laptops when its contract expires on Nov. 1.

This would majorly tighten the noose around the necks of the guys holding the purse strings, because movie studios won't have had time to fast-track blockbusters to see them through a strike, and most fall TV shows will only have 10 or 11 episodes in the can at that point.

So what do you think? Will it happen? Should the networks and studios just pony up already? Or will this finally be what brings to the googleplex "Paradise Hotel: The Movie?" — Additional reporting by Ben Katner

No, I think there will be a season 8. At least Gough and Millar want a season 8, but it won't be confirmed until May I guess. I really want Tom to be Superman in the JL flick. It would be awesome and I really think Smallville will benefit from it next year if people know that Tom is Superman.

I hope they end it this year, but if they don't I hope we don't get shortchanged with Clark, like some rumors flying around that Tom will not be the main character in a season 8.

Pshah on that!

:down

If he isn't in every episode, I'll hate it but I will watch the ones he is in.

i think if he is going to play Supes, itd be great to tie it in to the end of season 7,it might be a bit strange to see him play Superman then go back to playing Clark for more seasons of smallville (as much as i want it to carry on)

If there is a season 8, it'll end before Justice League is released the summer of 09...

There won't be any confusion.

I have a feeling they're serious about it this time.

Last contract talks, the WGA caved when it came to new media profit sharing (internet downloads) and they don't get a penny of that money.

I don't think they'll let it go this time.

That will NEVER happen. Even if Welling is cast in JL and the show goes eight seasons, the film won't premiere until *after* the show is completely DONE. SV would end in May '09, which is about as early as anybody would expect JL to unspool. IF this were the scenario, they'd time it so there wouldn't be any overlap. That would be the smartest thing to do.

All that said, IF Welling is cast in JL, I think Clark Kent will BE Superman at the end of S7. If the show was renewed, they'd focus on Kara/Supergirl next year and have Welling come back *as* Superman for a few guest episodes, probably during sweeps weeks. That's just my opinion though. I think the more likely scenario is that they'd fully end SV this season (S7) and then just spin-off Kara, assuming her eps get high ratings and CW is interested in the show enough to give it a half or full season order. LOTS of ifs here.

Oh yeah, one other option - Welling *isn't* cast in JL. Then I think there's a VERY VERY good chance we'll be getting another season after S7, but that would be the last. THEN they'll try to spin-off Supergirl. ;)

Regardless, G&M will need to know from CW no later than November if the intention is to renew the show for an eighth and final season.

There's going to be a LOT of things happening over the next two months - and it might be a hella lot shorter than that. We're all sitting on pins and needles here.

youre right there,as ive said before,i do like the idea of Kara taking over the show with clark/Superman guest appearing (although it would kinda suck if he wasnt always in it) but the shows called Smallville not Clark or Superman so as long as theres a healthy offering of interesting characters why not carry it on when/if welling leaves

hmmm should do....works for me:huh::huh::huh:

Some sites don't allow hotlinking, you can see them because you got copies stored on your computer somewhere...

You have to host the images yourself, hotlinking is against the rules although everyone does it. *cough*

:ninja:

What is that supposed to be? The robots behind Clark?

Answer: a very biased individual. :o

Excerpts:

"To make matters worse, there aren't high-profile actors lining up to take on some of the heroic gigs. Jessica Biel was considered (very shortly), but she bounced on the project. Though I can't remember her ever making an official statement on why she felt JLA wasn't for her, but one can assume that she saw the upcoming train wreck that the production will likely become."

"The casting for Justice League is expected to remain especially difficult considering we already have a Batman, Christian Bale, and a Superman, Brandon Routh; both of whom will not be joining the film's production. Seriously, who wants to be the secondary Batman or Superman?"

"While the delay of JLA will likely be one of many disappointments during the strike, one has to appreciate the fact that this will at least give Warner Bros. some time to settle down on the production and try to deliver a production not rushed, but something well thought out and executed.

Fingers crossed.
"
Give me an f'n break! Could that have come off any more biased? :whatever:

It's just one fool regurgitating the rumors of other fools.

JLA is "rushed" - check
script isnt finished - check
Biel baled b/c its going to be a trainwreck - check

it's like the clueless person's trifecta

Seriously, who wants to be the secondary ... Superman?

For what it's worth, this is exactly what I thought back in October 2004 when a certain casting announcement was made. ;)

Justice League will either

A) Fall Apart

B) The WB pays anything Tom Wellings people want to get him in the role

C) The WB pays off Nolan, Bale & get him in the Batman role through any means & just cast Routh as Superman

D) The rest of the main cast that gets casted will get everything they want & then some

So what is being said at IESB and Countdown? Anything new?

Oh boy. It's crazy out there, Zip. It's hard to know who to believe. There are a lot of shills crawling around, not to mention people who are obviously in the know, but highly opinionated. I read a post over on the MTV boards this afternoon that was just.... wow. Crazy stuff. Post was from "Peon."

Anyhoo... I don't think it'll be long. For better or for worse, we're gonna find out who the new face of Superman on film will be. And it's gonna be SOON!
