When it comes to WB, I seriously doubt its false. A lot of times, those dumb asses will plant news out there just to see the reaction, then go out and try to make it real news.....IF its positive. A month from now, we'll be hearing this stirred up again. :o

true but its been confirmed by a few news sites that it isnt true right now. I do hope who ever they give the reigns to superman will do a better job then what singer did.

I love you, too, Docker.

Tom has only done Cheaper by the Dozen movies and the Fog.........so I don't think he has many options when Smallville ends. He should just play Supes on the big screen and get a big payday. He says he doesn't want to be typecast but let's be real: its to late to throw that fish back in the ocean when he's already on the grill. :o Time is running out for him becuase he's already 31 so it would be in his best interest to accept the part now so that when he gets older he won't wonder what if.......that or he's on VH1's Surreal Life becuase he's become a has been after Smallville. :csad:

Keep in mind, Tom's ability to do films is severely hampered by his smallville commitment. He's on set 12 hours a day fpr 6 days a week for about 9 months a year. His only time to do films would be A) on the 3 month summer hiatus (which is a very small window for shooting any type of "big" film) or B) something in Vancouver where he can run back and forth between the sets. The CBTD films are an example of A, and The Fog is an example of group B.

I still have hope. Call me crazy, but I do. Tom is turning 32 next month, and by the time he's finished with SV, perhaps TPTB will have gotten their cumulative shizzle together enough to be ready for a Superman movie featuring all 30's and up mature actors. That's my bubble; don't anyone pop it. :word:

And even if he never plays Superman on the big screen, it's still pretty damn cool that he has played Clark Kent (SV and Metropolis) longer than any other actor in history.

With Tom's personal background, that will never happen. I think it's safe to assume that he's very financially secure.

Can we just make that ^ a sticky? ;)

Or not.

One month, nothing.
Two months, nothing.
Three months? [Checks watch.] Guess it's time.

Bumping for the next round....

oh...I thought there was some news. :csad:
Well, there is interesting chatter going on elsewhere regarding Welling and Smallville's future, so I expect it to migrate here shortly. ;)

I'm just going to throw this out there because it's been bugging me. There's too many radical changes seemingly being made on the fly right now. Take the faux Jimmy, for example. I don't believe for one second the producers cast Aaron Ashmore as Jimmy Olsen three years ago with the knowledge that they would eventually have to retcon him. How dumb is that? As recent as the 7th season's DVD, Ashmore was profiled along with Larson, McClure and Huntington in the Jimmy Olsen retrospective. This sudden need to realign the show with the mythos by youngifiying Jimmy - an arguably very insignificant detail when in Smallville continuity, there's a permanent krypto-powered Lana Lang running around the globe playing superhero - is very suspicious. There's no sense to either bonehead decision as you either keep to the mythos or you don't. Even DC's Gregory I'm-so-confused Noveck pointed out that SV's very nature as an elseworld's tale grants it more wiggle room in the mythos. So why the major change with Jimmy? Something is just fishy there.

The other thing that makes me wonder is Welling resigning for two years. Now I know the two years part is standard (as opposed to one year). What I don't know is the size of the wheelbarrow they used to hold all of that non-existent cash they had to offer him. Was it in the form of executive producer's credits? Or did they go the route of studio put pics? For example, sign onto SV for two more years, and we'll guarantee you first dibs on three WB films over the next five years. Something like that. What's the catch here? Is there some major change in store for the show next season that interested him enough to stay for another two years?

Anyhoo, I'm curious to see the approach they take next year. Because the about-face they took halfway through this season left me confused and a bit annoyed. It all started so wonderfully and then it took a nosedive?

Yea it does make you wonder what is up with dc and its control over the show.

AHEM - Maybe you could be so kind as to summarize that chatter for my (and everyone else's) consumption in this thread :woot: I lead a busy life - I have no time for searches. SPARE ME!!! SAVE ME!!!

Yeah, color me confused.

I haven't heard anything, but I don't really go anywhere else except for here and k-site. I just don't have time to go digging around the interwebs the way I used to.

If you can fill us in, Pat, I'd be happy to hear it.

As for his contract, I don't know if I'd buy him signing onto a superman themed film... he'll be tied to a Superman show for 10 seasons. They'd have to throw him a boat load of money, or promised cut of gross, in order to have him sign up for playing the same character for maybe another 7 or 8 years past that. Seriously, they'd have to shell because that'd mean most of his adult life playing the same character.

Although, that probably worked out for Kelsey Grammer (he played Frasier for 18 years with both Cheers and the spin-off, Frasier) and James Arness (he played Marshal Matt Dillon on Gunsmoke for 20 years).

AgentPat,

So if I read your post right. Do you think Smallville making the Ashmore Jimmy not the real Jimmy is related to them wanting to put Smallville more in line with the comics so they can move Welling to the big screen? I also want to know what the scuttlebut is??

Why wait? Share!
I'm just going to throw this out there because it's been bugging me...
I agree with all of that. It's just... odd, given the show's nature as being different from the traditional mythos.
What's the catch here? Is there some major change in store for the show next season that interested him enough to stay for another two years?
A major change? Got any wild guesses, Pat?

Yeah, my roommate, who caught up on the show on DVD last year and watched last season and this season with me, was amazed at the sudden change mid-season. He, too, was impressed by where the show was going, and surprised to see it all of a sudden go... bleh.

Let me be clear, I don't expect to see Welling in a Superman feature film. That ship has sailed. My expectation is that a traditional Superman film is a few more years away at best, and many more years away at worst. So, moving on...

My previous post was in regards to Smallville, and what may or may not be in store for us next season. Why did Welling resign? Beats me, but that carrot must have been re-heeeely nice. Just sayin'.

The scuttlebut is on S.S. I know - Steve doth not credible make. But rumors are fun, and the newest ones sound plausible.

Anyhoo, gotta run... dinner. :)

but what's the newest rumor? Don't leave us hangin' Pat!

Didn't think so, but... sadly, I agree that a traditional Superman film is... a ways off...
