In Holland it's been a great ****ing year for movies.
Wow, you guys had to wait a year for a lot of great movies. What's with the delay? Does that happen often in Holland? Forgive me, I'm a bit ignorant of foreign release dates.

Also, the more I think about it...Let the Right One In might be the best movie I've seen this year. It's certainly the movie that has stuck with me the most.

Let the Right One Is is great.

It's very indie, so you gonna have to look around man.
Only one theater in the city of Philadelphia was showing the movie, so depending on where you live you might not get to see it at all. I consider myself lucky.

I normally abhor the pirating of movies, but if you must Let the Right One In is worth downloading if that's the only way you can manage to see it before it hits dvd.

I haven't seen Synecdoche, New York but apparently it's an amazing film, has anyone here had the chance to see it?

Iron Man? Indiana Jones?

1. Be Kind, Rewind
2. Waltz With Bashir
3. The Band's Visit
4. Wall.E
5. Daft Punk's Electroma
6. The Baader Meinhof Complex
7. Taxi to the Dark Side
8. Max Payne
9. The Warlords
10. Let's Talk About the Rain
If you had liked Indiana Jones then I would've sworn you were Armond White.

Close enough though.

Yeah. It's a bit of a mess, but pretty good if you liked Kaufman's other stuff. Still dosen't top Being John Malkovich.

Synedouche, New York starts out really got. BUT my GOD, it becomes heavy by the end. To the point where it's like a workout at the gym, and you need a cold shower afterwards. It's a brutal but beautfiul experience.

As good as 'Batman Beginings'? :cwink:

I have no idea why, but there are lot of delays. Ususally they're my most anticipated movies aswell.....which makes sense in a very cruel sort of way. For instance; The Prestige got here in 2007. Instead of 2006.

Luckily movies such as TDK have pretty much international release dates, and get here only a week later.

Here in Sweden, often when a movie is released the year after it's mostly American November/December-releases that is released sometime in the first three months of the new year. They do it all the time especially with "Oscar-movies". When it comes to big blockbusters they are most of the time released at the same time here as they are in America. One big exception is Disney's animated movies. Those released in summer in America is always released in September/October here. And a November-release like Bolt is usually released in February/March in Sweden

Okay, I have counted up, and I have seen precisely 50 new releases in theatres this year. Bear in mind I live in the UK, so some of those on my list are technically 2007 movies, but since they weren't released here in 2007, I'm counting them as 2008. My top 10 movies of the year (so far, of course) in no particular order, are:

Before The Devil Knows You're Dead
No Country For Old Men
There Will Be Blood
Diary of the Dead
El Orfanato
In Bruges
The Mist
Gone Baby Gone
Wall-E
The Dark Knight

And my Bottom 5 (worst movies of the year)

Vantage Point
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Hancock
Choke
Pride and Glory

And finally, my Top 5 'guilty pleasures' (movies which I know sucked, but were actually kinda awesome)

National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets
10,000 BC
Doomsday
Journey to the Center of the Earth
Taken

You out that crapfest Vantage Point with Indy? Ugh.

I'd have to say Vantage Point was the worst movie of the year for me.

Nice list, but really why Max Payne?
And "Let's talk about the rain" is a nice movie but certainly not in my top 10.

Yeah, he includes Max Payne over IM. And other films no one has ever heard of. He reminds me of the academy's attitude. Blasts them about their popularity.

You shouldn't hate a film because it's popular. Look at why it's popular. If someone exludes films because of how much money they made and not looking at the quality of it, that's just being close minded.
