Torchwood

All characters on Doctor Who are fun once you strip the romance from them.

On the other hand, only half the characters on Torchwood are fun once you strip the romance from them. That is to say, Jack, Tosh, and Ianto are fun. Owen is better off dead, Gwen needs to be taken down a few pegs, and Rhys can kick rocks.

im a big fan of torchwood(not nearly as big a fan as i am of the doctor)but idk if this cast will work, i was really looking forward to Martha and Ricky i mean mickey:woot::csad:

Bah, not sure if I will stick with the show...I will check out the first couple of episodes, but why couldn't they kill off Gwen instead of Tosh:cmad:
Gwen is the one person that was more irritating than Owen....I thought they might overcome killing off Tosh by bringing in Martha, but that isn't going to happen now, so we get Rhys.....oh boy, I can't wait:cmad:

I read the actress that played Tosh wanted to go back to doing theater....her and Barrowman appeared in Miss Saigon together several years ago

The UK: The only place where actors intentionally leave television and film to do theatre, and call it a positive career move.

I didn't say anything about quality. It's just that in the US, actors consider their careers as on a negative turn when they go from film to theatre. Probably because it pays so much less.

Broadway is pretty well respected, though.

I was agreeing with you. (Mann is British.)

It seems to have been that way in the States for a long time. I remember when Alec Baldwin, after finishing Red October, got offered some parts. But he decided to take an opportunity offered him and do some Broadway instead. He felt some backlash from Hollywood. Even cost him getting his role back in the Jack Ryan sequels.

I don't think thats quite true alot of Hollywood actors have come to the UK to do West End shows when their careers where doing fine over the this decade.

Jake Gyllenhaal, Kevin Spacey, Matt Damon, Casey Affleck, Gwyneth Paltrow, Nicole Kidman, Josh Hartnett, Val Kilmer, Woody Harrelson, Juliette Lewis, Glenn Close, Rob Lowe, Joshua Jackson, Jeff Goldblum, Daryl Hannah ect.

There is American actors in West End shows every other week. I think alot of them do it because they get work with some classically trained actors and stage directors so they might learn something and become better actors. Its a bit more serious than some of those flakey Hollywood acting schools where the level of acting is about soap opera level.

I agree chamber...theater can be a helpful tool for an actor....I also think they do it because its a nice break as opposed to spending 12, 16, 18 hour days on a movie set....but Torchwood is just hitting its stride and one of the main characters leaves to go do Avenue Q with puppets....IMO thats just plain dumb

I'm aware that working in theatre can help actors with their quality of performance. I'm just saying that when film actors do theatre in the US, ect. ect. ect. I'm not saying the exact same thing a third time.

I do want to know why the hell John Barrowman is still so bad, though.

But Avenue Q is hilarious and I remember they performed a couple of scenes for the RVP thingy and Mori was brilliant.

I didn't realise TW was so popular in America. Apparently it sells enough to have them tone the language down anyway.
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/cult/a139378/new-torchwood-toned-down-for-us-market.html

BBC confirmed a while ago that the reason series three got shortened to be the five-episode Children of Earth is because they can't have three production crews on the go and they commissioned another run of Sarah Jane Adventures. They sell sonic lipsticks to kids that way you see - merchandise wins again. So much for my TV licence....

The strange part is that it only comes on the BBC America channel, and practically nobody watches that.

I object to taking the sole blame for a toned down Torchwood. Don't they also have to edit that show frequently to air it pre-watershed in the UK?

I watch BBC America.....Im probably one of 4 people in CT that do watch it though

No-one's blaming you mate :oldrazz: ...it's edited for pre-watershed yeah, but that's only for a repeat the week after to try and catch more viewers.

I watch BBC America only if they have Top Gear, Dr. Who, or Torchwood episodes I want to see again. And occasionally the news.

All that for me, plus Primeval, and reruns of Catherine Tate, Monty Python, & Coupling. I wonder why they never rerun That Mitchell & Webb Look, though. That show was hilarious.

Sorry, bobbins means not good. Didn't wanna say arse but same thing in this context. Ashes to Ashes is inferior and the main character is annoying. The writers try too hard with Gene Hunt as well. Didn't work for me.

Forgot about watching Python. And forgot that they aired Primeval (but I haven't watched it on BBC America).

Plus, PBS airs BBC America news and just finished Eccelston's run as the Doctor. Which is even less reason for me to watch BBCA.

I saw 2 episodes of 'Catherine Tate'....pretty funny....I get how the Lauren Cooper skits bring about such reactions
