Torchwood

Hey, if Rhys can destroy an alien from the inside-out, why not Mickety-Mick-Mick-Mickey? :woot:

Rhys should go to work for Torchwood and then leave Gwen when he sees all the moon-eyes she and Jack are constantly making at each other.

In all seriousness, I think Rhys knows that she's in love with Jack, but stays with her, happy (kinda) to be second best. And why not? Gwen's damn tasty. :oldrazz:

Not that tasty. Rhys could do much better for himself. Like, non-adulterous b**** better.

I do feel bad for Rhys. It should of been him that saved the day with the chainsaw in the wedding episode, not Jack.

To be honest, Rhys kind of annoys me too. I was hoping he would learn about Gwen and Owen, get pissed, and go off to get himself killed.

I am actually a fan of what the show is trying to do. I just think it's doing it in one of the worst ways imaginable. The second series was better than the first, though, I'll grant it that. I only liked about two episodes from the first series. I liked a lot more in the second series, even though I had essentially given up hope of ever liking the characters by then.

For me, the episodes start to blend, and I cant differentiate between them.

I can remember the central plot of most episodes, at least. One of the few from series 1 that I liked was the one with Owen's time-lost girlfriend. The fact that he's a man-****e actually worked well there, since he found someone he could settle down with but she was taken from him. That went a long way to making me rethink his character. I still ended up not liking him, but I sympathized with him a bit more after that.

To tell the truth, if I was going to recommend someone watch any Torchwood episodes, I'd tell them to watch the very first episode, maybe Ghost Machine (the episode where Gwen and Owen used that little device to see into the past. I really liked it up until the ending), Out Of Time (the one with Owen's 1950s girlfriend), the 2-part series 1 finale (again, good until the ending where Jack inexplicably defeated the villain who showed up from nowhere), and probably most of series 2.

it has the feel of a soap opera with action just getting in the way some times. like i said before, more blowing stuff up. so is it going to be on bbc 1 then?

I'd be fine with the emotional content if just about everyone's emotions weren't so nonsensical. Call me old-fashioned, but I don't really like heroes whose sexual preferences randomly change at the drop of a dime or who commit adultery in some form or another every other episode. Thankfully, the second season dropped most of that. Maybe with another season and more well-rounded characters like Martha and Mickey onboard, it'll improve even further.

Will Russel T Davies be involved in the next Season? I'm not sure how far his leaving Doctor Who extends to.

I think he's involved in writing one or more of the specials. But I haven't heard anything about his involvement with Torchwood.

I hope Martha and Mickey join the team next year!
The two spots left open are the ones that the two can best fill, the Doctor and the Techie.

ah man they better not cut out the sex, they didn't even have as much as the first season.

It was a common critisicm of the first season that too many characters were hopping in and out of bed with each other, so there just responding to what people didnt like.

Yeah, I mean, it's one thing to not skirt the issue of sex entirely the way Doctor Who does and quite another to overload the viewer with it. This is still a science fiction adventure show at its core. It seemed like it was attempting to be something more like a character-driven soap opera with a sci fi backdrop, much like Battlestar Galactica, in its first series. The only problem is that Battlestar Galactica has better writing and is a more mature show all around; Torchwood series 1 felt like an adolescent awkwardly throwing as much sex in my face as it could to prove it was mature while leaving things like plot coherence and character development as afterthoughts in all but a few episodes.

Now, if every Torchwood episode were like "Out of Time," it'd be a different story. That was one of the few well-rounded, emotionally affecting episodes. Most of the others in series 1 were just gross.

Martha was going to join but I think Freema (the actress who plays her) is leaving to join some British spin off of an American law show.

I for one didn't mind the sex in Torchwood.I actually did think it was handled in a sensible manner, not trying to hide anything or trying to appeal to kids all the time for example.
