LOL. Once I thought about Eccleston's finale, I was going to edit it to say exactly that.

I've never seen "Dr. Who." It'll take me forever to catch up/ :awesome: .

If you want to watch the "The Adventures of Captain Jack Harkness" in order watch:
Doctor Who Season 1: Episodes 9-13
Torchwood Season 1
Doctor Who Season 3: 11-13
Torchwood Season 2
Doctor Who Season 4: 12-13
Torchwood: Children of Earth

You can watch "The End of Time", but he's only in it for about a minute.

You don't have to watch all 47 years' worth, just the last 5 :cwink:

756 episodes is a lot for anyone I think.

Just for the sake of Captain Jack, you only need to watch the 2005 episodes of Doctor Who. It's the "First Series" DVD's-- and even then, you only need to watch episodes 9-13. That's when he's introduced for the first time. After that, I think you can watch Torchwood on its own. I think most of us would recommend you also watch Doctor Who, if only because we loves tha Doctah.

There's a couple of Who-Jack crossover episodes over the seasons. It's worth watching Who, though. Eccleston was fun, and Tennant was fantastic.

:fhm::fhm::fhm: to everyone's suggestions!!! I took a chance and invested in the season one dvd set and enjoyed the first episode so far! :word:

Oh man, I think I'm going to have to get a Netflix account to view the Dr. Who epis because I have cheapo cable so I don't get the SyFy channel.

Btw, I was wondering if this is a good source for cliff notes on the captain? http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Jack_Harkness

Fox develops U.S. Torchwood: John Barrowman could star
Bad news with some good news: Fox—the TV network that killed Firefly and Dollhouse and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles—is developing a U.S. version of the hit Doctor Who spinoff series Torchwood.

The good news is: Doctor Who revitalizer and Torchwood creator Russell T Davies is writing the script for the pilot. And Capt. Jack Harkness himself—John Barrowman—might star!

How bad can it be?

Here's how The Hollywood Reporter's Live Feed blog reported it:

Unlike U.S. adaptations that have gone awry, Torchwood fans can take comfort that the original producing team is on board. In addition to Davies, exec producers include Davies' producing partner Julie Gardner (former head of drama at BBC Wales for the show's first season) and Jane Tranter (another BBC vet, now exec VP programming and production at BBC Worldwide Prods. in the U.S.).
Also, some of the current cast—most likely John Barrowman, who plays the immortal Capt. Jack Harkness—might star if Fox orders Torchwood to pilot.

The story goes on to say that the U.S. version would be more globally focused, with stories that go beyond the more localized stories of the original, which centered on Cardiff, Wales, and the United Kingdom.

Who's betting Fox soft-pedals Captain Jack's omnisexuality? Or his relationship with Ianto? Or any sex at all?

And this raises the tantalizing question: Since Torchwood exists in Doctor Who's universe, would we eventually see an Americanized Doctor? Traveling in what, a Bell-Telephone-booth-shaped TARDIS?

What do you think of a U.S. Torchwood? On Fox?
Not too sure how I feel about this...

Could be all right if Fox gives it a fair chance.
Fox, Corp. It's getting a Friday night timeslot and vague commercials that say "This week on Fox" without saying the day or time.

I feel like Torchwood would be a great companion to 24 actually, but I don't see that show lasting for more than 2 more seasons.

Dollhouse got two seasons in spite of uniformly pathetic ratings, so it seems like Fox might actually be turning over a new leaf. Either way, we know it'll be the same creatively, at least. It'll take place in the US, but it'll be RTD and his people doing the same things they would for another UK series. And seriously, let's be honest here: Who was really that in love with the UK Torchwood outside of "Children of Earth" anyway? The first two series could be wiped out of continuity and forgotten forever and nobody would miss 'em because they were largely trash.

I would be quite sad and slip into a state of deep depression if that happened...:waa::waa:
I'm not joking...

I just had a thought: Do you think the Torchwood crew could even handle doing an American show? It's a pretty big leap from 5-13 episodes per year to 20 episodes.

they should keep it at 13. It'll keep production costs down.

There's no guarantee they'd be doing a 20-episode order. There are lots of US shows that only do 13 episodes. Dollhouse's seasons both have 13, Dexter's seasons have 12, etc.

You are wrong, sir.

Well...mostly wrong.

As long as they're not rebooting Torchwood for the US, but sort of making it a new season (or maybe a US division of Torchwood, after Jack leaves the UK division), I'll go along with it.

And we probably won't see as much snogging, regardless of gender/species. But as long as they still have Jack hitting on pretty much anything that moves, then at least the character won't be getting butchered.

I agree, a "reboot" is entirely unnecessary, because the character is a time traveller who already speaks in an American accent, so he can be easily transported to another scenario. I do not look forward to watching the same stories I watched two years ago with different accents.

I love this UK show's treatment of Jack's sexuality, and I'm cautiously optimistic that Fox will be fairly progressive, for U.S. network TV. This is Fox, not Fox News.

I wonder if we'll see any man-on-man kissing. US networks are still fairly conservative about that (although lesbian kissing seems to be a-okay now; fun double-standards!).

you complaining?? what is going on with you lately Corp?? what happened to the malcontent we all know??

I'm not complaining, just wondering if Fox will allow RTD to "push the envelope" for American TV by doing what he normally does without fanfare on British TV. I'm naturally inquisitive.

I happen to not be feeling negative right now, either. I'll b**** when there's something to b**** about, like if Fox puts Captain Jack behind the wheel of a monster truck to run over baby aliens or something.

What to expect: More guns and less sex. As is always the case with American television over British.

Though, one good thing is that it makes the return of John Hart more likely. :)
