Never planned to see this movie in theaters, though I am still interested in seeing it. I'll wait for it to hit bluray.

transformers is a popular brand with lots of history with world wide appeal to all ages much like spiderman don't see why people are surprised those movies made so much good or bad films aside
This exactly. It was going to open well regardless. The Bay haters were just blinded to the global brand awareness of the franchise. Plus I saw it 7 times and on the Transformers message boards it was common to see posts of people seeing 3,4,5 times.

Total Recall isn't some mega beloved film franchise. What happened as I see it is that critics piled on(you know they didn't get a screening and this often happens) then internet trolls spread it around as if this was gospel fact. Those that went then had lowered expectations are were predisposed to see flaws thus insuring sour WOM. Sadly too many still use RT, Metacritic etc as a crutch to "tell them" what to expect but I digress.

I'm not saying it was Shakespeare, it wasn't trying to be, it was a sci-fi film with some action, suspense and mystery. That's what it billed itself as and it frankly succeded imo. You don't need to see it 4-6 times in the theater but it's fun to see it once in that environment. Sadly it looks like many won't.

To me...this was a fantastic action hero flick. We had GREAT stunt work, plenty of strong action scenes. That's really all you need to make a solid action film.

Prometheus had good reviews and a good opening and then ****** legs because the audience didn't like it that much. They were more mixed on it than the critics were. The critics and internet do not control the audience. The audience disliked Total Recall so it fell 68% this weekend, that's all there is to it.

If they hadn't included the relationship between the kid and the terminator I would have enjoyed it just as much.

I bet you didn't need the emotional and psychological state of Sarah or the dilemma of Dyson as well. :funny:

There is a reason there is Raiders, T2, Die Hard, First Blood, Robocop and then the good action films (Bourne, Predator, Terminator etc.) and then the stuff you described.

Predator belongs in that first tier wayyyy more so than Robocop does.

Not sure from a #'s viewpoint Prometheus is the great comparison you think. It's also part of an existing franchise so built in audience is a factor as well, something TR doesn't have.
It's second weekend was 59% drop, a near 10% difference, it's also done over $300m WW and domestically equalled it's stated production budget. Don't start quoting percentage share to me, I know that stuff. The most important thing of all is that FOX has announced the sequel, when it crossed $300m it was in the black enough to move forward so the WOM on it wasn't as bad as your making out.

I'll tell you what i see about the net in the half dozen or so sites I frequent most. People who openly say they've not seen the film but man it must be **** after the reviews. They then use the second weekend drop as proof when in actuality the wom is being polluted by people who've never seen the film whose opinion was formed by stuffy critics.
Did a small % probably actually not like it, yeah, I can concede that.

I'd be willing to discuss Predator in the top tier, but there is no way I think it is better then Robocop. The film is social satire with a heart.

I know 3 people who went and saw Recall and had the same reaction I did... it stunk. None of them including me read any reviews going into it... so I highly doubt it's awful numbers and big second week drop were due to a small number of people not liking it.

It was more than a small number. I'm sorry but your friends are not a big enough sampling group.

Also I never said Prometheus bombed, I said that a lot of people were disappointed by it a and it had somewhat negative word of mouth. I'll believe a Prometheus sequel is coming out when it is being filmed, I don't rule it out but people are way to comfortable saying that they know a sequel is happening. Scott ain't getting any younger and might want to do other films.

So won a q and a competition and just spent an hour in front of these guys ....

I have to say they where all so down to earth and very funny!
Kate is even more pretty in real life!

I saw this movie a few days ago...and I was surprised that I liked it. In the beginning I had mixed feeling about it but I didn't think much about it cause I'm one of those ppl who rather wait and reserve judgement before seeing a movie.

The movie was surprisingly good. Better than I thought it would be. Very different in tone in terms of seriousness and realistic. I think the setting really worked. Much different than the original...and I think the reason this new version isn't getting the recognition it deserves for being different is because ppl will always find themselves comparing a remake to the original. I didn't do that with this one. I went with an open mind. However, I do like the original but I think if I wanted a more serious and realistic tone of Total Recall, I'll go with the remake. Besides, the mars element wasn't even in the book and thats why most ppl dislike the remake. Well sorry to hear you feel that way but the original wasn't as close to the source material either. Both movies, I feel, are unique in their own world.

As for the actors, while Farrell was okay, I still think he can't really carry a movie on his own but he had Jessica Biel and Kate Beckinsale to help him out with that. I thought Biel held her own but Beckinsale...omg...she was the big show for me (besides the fact that she's one of my fave actresses) and I hope to god in the future, she gets to play more villians - wither she dies or not...she is good as a bad guy. lol. It was so good to watch her go psycho on Farrell. Awesome.

anyway, I give this movie a rating of 8/10. Not a perfect score because this movie was not so near as perfect but it was worth the admission price I paid for to see it, regardless of the uncomfortable seats I had to bear for two hours of butt sitting. I was numb by the time the movie was over. lol.

It's not a poorer version of Verhoeven's film, it's actually very different, and a better adaptation of the original novel (but not a better film).

Big Ben's there cause the movie is set in London and Australia, which are the only habitable places left on Earth.

I felt that it strayed further away from the original short story than the 90's version. The original story has a strange sort of humor that Vorhoven captured, the new version is nearly completely humorless.

i remember reading that Ethan Hawk was in the movie. was this just a rumor ? was he one of the soldiers?
