I like Ethan Hawke as well. But I like what they did with the scene when Quaid finds out who he really is.

So I saw it finally (and it was the directors cut), I really like the world they created but everything else...eh. It was so dull and it kept making me fall asleep, Farrell wasn't the guy for this job. And yeah Ethan Hawke was there for less than a min, such a random cameo. I'll stick to the Arnie version.

Extended Cut spoilers:

Ethan Hawke is the original Hauser.

Melina is Matthias's daughter

It was all a dream. At the end, Farrell looks at his arm to see that his peace sign tattoo is missing.

I'm sure I'm of the unpopular opinion on this...but I thought the movie was a fantastic sci-fi action flick.

Just got round to seeing this recently. I really enjoyed it, I have to say. Although it pays certain homages to the original (large elements of the storyline, some of the lines, the fat lady at the body scanner and so on), it's still very much it's own film. I like the whole concept of the Fall, the removal of Mars from the storyline, and the general look of the future which the filmmakers created. There's plenty of action and I felt that all the leads did a great job - Farrell in particular was in great form as Quaid/Hauser, and very charismatic - he's one of those actors who is hard to draw your eyes away from when he's on screen.

I had a few small gripes with the film but nothing serious - it's a solid 8/10 at least for me.

Can't wait to get this not out till 26th but did you guys get the feature on your discs called "The Look Of The Future" (20 min)" ?

One company over here is selling it with that as a exclusive ? Is it worth it lol

The missing tattoo at the end wasn't added back to confirm that it was all a dream, just to provide some ambiguity as to whether or not it was real or a dream. At no point does it state that the tattoo was something that was permanent. In all likelihood, Rekall would only use something that was temporary.

In the end, if you think it was a dream, then it is. If you think it was real, then it is. It's completely up to the viewer to decide. I've always come down on the side that it isn't a dream. For me, if it were a dream, then we shouldn't see any scenes where Quaid/Hauser is not present. Like I said though, it's all up the viewer. There is no wrong answer.

That's exactly the same as the 1990 movie ;) .

Just saying.

Same here. If the original had never been made everyone would have loved this film.

Agreed.

no amount of cool sci fi gadgets, cool camera techniques and amazing city scapes can hide this films lack of soul or charm imo. it wasn't bad, but it just seemed so superficial. like a glossy magazine that doesn't really say anything.

The Steelbook from Wal-Mart is fantastic! I'm so glad they used the first poster with Colin posing as the cover!

Overall, the theatrical cut is better than the Director's Cut since all the added stuff was pointless and
the story works better that everything was real instead of a dream which was a total buzzkill
, but Ethan Hawke's cameo was cool.

And if you buy the movie at Target, you get an exclusive bonus DVD with two 20 minute featurettes:

A Mental Construct: The VFX of Total Recall

Pratically Real: The Action Of Total Recall

The 3 breasted woman seemed out of place in this remake version since it doesn't place on Mars but I'm glad they kept that aspect from the original.

Yeah, which is rare because I usually prefer Director's Cuts. Another problem I had with the twist reveal is that
everything being a dream makes the opening scene pointless!

I thought it was good , but some of the scenes and twists were done better in the original. It's still a very enjoyable action film and Kate Beckinsale was awesome.

How cool would it have been if Hawke's cameo had been done by Schwarzenegger instead? :D

it wouldnt only be cool but it would make sense in the context of the story. :)

I just dont know where to begin with this remake. The action was dull and boring. They took scenes from the original and put new actors in them and new locations but same subtext and just added colin running in between those scenes. The overall reveal as to why he memory was changed was beyond stupid and then they have the resistance but what were they resistancing? I mean what was this cohaagan doing that was so terrible, from what I saw doug's living and working conditions werent down right depressing. Also you just have to love that it takes 17 minutes to get through the planet core to the colony and in the beginning of the movie it took 5 seconds but when they need a big action set piece it seems to take 3 days to get there. Also this movie took itself way too serious.

I didn't think so. The people in that area were altering themselves so it made sense to me.

I'm surprised. How is it pointless? It was the same idea that they used in the original.

By comparing it to the original, it sounds like you were looking for things to dislike. The action was dull and boring? That was one of the best parts of the film. I've said it before and I will say it again, had the original never been made, people would have loved this film.

Well i can compare it to the original because its the same story and same title, and i wasnt looking to bash the picture because i thought it would be better then arnolds version. The action was boring like i said because they went on too long and too many situations where i never thought the two leads were in any danger. The chase on the freeway with magnetic cars was cool but after a minute i was bored because it looked faked and took me out of the movie. Plus its the Michael bay effect, you can have all the action u want but if it doesnt mean anything then whats the point. The "twist" was so dumb as well.

Because there is no reason for it to be there in the Director's Cut once you get to the end as
they want to believe everything that happens after Doug gets injected is false
. Had Len Wiseman actually paid attention to detail, he would've / should've told his editor to remove the original dream in his extended version.

Just watched this.

If I had to sum up the film I would say it is the Original without the charm.

There isnt enough face palms in the world for the BS that is "The Fall". Tunneling through the core of the planet where the pressure and temperatures are unimaginable. Usually I can swallow bent science but that was more like they took known science and twisted it into a damn pretzel.

I redboxed this last night, so it must've been the theatrical version I saw. I wasn't impressed. I actually started dozing off near the end. I was looking forward to seeing this, I thought the trailer was great for it, but was left very disappointed.

Overall I liked it. Beckinsdale was fantastic as the femme fatale villain and I thought Farrell and Biel did well in their roles. Would have liked more Cranston though.

But yeah, the tunnel-through-the-earth aspect of it was silly; especially considering how fast you would have to be moving to be able to get from one side of the PLANET to the other in a matter of minutes... there is absolutely NO way that you would be able to climb around on the side of such a vehicle like they did at the end. I also found Cohagen's
plan to invade the Colony lacking in common sense... you're just going to march a bunch of droids out there and shoot everybody, one-by-one? Huh?
Still, it was a fun, fast-paced movie and I for one didn't miss the "charm" Arnold supposedly brings with his goofy facial expressions and cheesy one liners like, "CONSIDAH IT A DIVAHCE" and "ZEE YOU AT DAH PAHTY RICHTAH!"
