The film could have been called something else really with the same plot. They just wanted to cash in on the name. I liked the action sequences and the sets were pretty nice. There are some slow moments, but it's too cool down for the next action scene. I'd wait to until it comes out on DVD/BR to watch it.

I don't think the original is a great film but it's highly entertaining. How much of the weird stuff from the original is missing.

All of it, save for a 10 second cameo of the three boobed lady. There is no inspiration or fun in the film. None.

My brother's reaction to the movie was eh, it was okay

My sister's reaction to the movie was meh

My reaction to the movie was meh as well. The movie is boring. The characters aren't fun or interesting and the movie is just one long action sequence. I don't even know what to say because it's just so ****ing lame and uninspired.

Well now I don't feel bad about skipping this one.
The movie isn't isn't fun, it has just about no sense of humor and the movie has no energy what so ever. It has a lot of action scenes but they don't mean a damn thing.

There is a scene involving elevators, and I imagined the filmmakers being really excited about this scene because you know, stuff was moving in a bunch of different directions.

initial reactions: it wasn't the worst movie I've seen, a serviceable turn-off-your-brain popcorn flick. Colin Farell, an ok actor who could do with better help picking roles he could conceivably move up to the big leagues.

It's too bad it didn't do at least a little better at the box office, but then I thought about how John Carter was expected to fair better but still tanked in sales. Darn the fickle comsumer appetites.

Yet the film acted like it was inception. That's the problem (among many) i and a few have brought up already it took itself too damn seriously. It was essentially a b-movie like the film it was based on but the first total recall understood that and went with it and had fun. This one thought it was too good for that when that was the total opposite.

as far as i'm concerned...this is one of the best action hero films to come out in recent years

No fun? Are you kidding? Great stunts, fantastic action sequences....

Spidey explains it well. No sense of humor and no burst of energy and excitement that the movie should have. Its forgetable action, hollow action thats going around in circles with no real creativity. Not fantastic at all.

Well, I saw this last night and agree with the general consensus of "meh." Totally hollow and uninspired.

That said...it wasn't as bad as I was expecting. I was kind of dragged to it and was prepared to be totally bored (with a small hope that it would be so bad it's fun to laugh at), but I actually found myself adequately diverted the entire time, despite there being not much to laugh at. The action sequences were fairly well-done and the visuals, while almost entirely cribbed from better movies and often looking quite "video game-y," were still nice to look at. I definitely prefer this over Wiseman's last effort, Live Free or Die Hard, though that's not saying much.

And this last part really pains me to say, but the person who actually came out of this looking good to me was....I can't believe I'm about to say this...Jessica Biel. I normally can't stand her and physically cringe whenever people suggest her for superhero movies, but in this, I thought her performance was right on par with Farrell's (who I generally love and thought was fine in this), and better than Beckinsale's. This is the first time I've seen Biel in something in which I didn't feel she brought the project down a peg. So good for her. Don't get me wrong, I won't be suggesting her for any superhero movies any time soon, but maybe I'll stop visibly cringing whenever she's brought up, lol.

Overall, I'd probably give the movie a 5.5-6/10. Not a horrible way to spend 12 bucks and a night out with friends, but really, it's a rental.

Wow, I was considering seeing this one but reviews have been so bad for it. Now I guess I'll wait for red box, maybe...

Don't believe the hate. The anti-remake crowd are just hating it and can't comprehend that some people might be enjoying it and are using the fact that professional critics destroyed the movie to say that everyone should hate it.

What really bothers me is had it been a direct copy, people would've b*tched so when they got something different instead, *GASP* they still b*tch!

From what I have read is that it is pretty much a direct copy, without the charm and performances of the original.

But its not a direct copy. Had you actually watched the movie, you would see that.

Its not a direct copy, in fact it is even further removed from the original short story than the original movie even was :P

The mainstream audience also dislikes the film so don't blame the reception on the critics or people who hate remakes. The movie did so poorly this weekend that Sony isn't even reporting the numbers. Even if you take the original out of the equation the new movie isn't very good. It's a lame movie directed by a hack and it doesn't derseve you or anyone elses defense.

maybe the movie didnt make more money because of the critics. joking

i remember this was said for John Carter. hehe

It's not surprising this movie bombed. Why would a studio think people would be excited to see a PG-13 watered down remake of an R-rated movie that is still easily available to be viewed/purchased? I am talking about the majority of the general public here, not anyone who cares or knows about the original short story and hoped this would be more faithful or whatever.
