Well, I saw this last night and agree with the general consensus of "meh." Totally hollow and uninspired.
That said...it wasn't as bad as I was expecting. I was kind of dragged to it and was prepared to be totally bored (with a small hope that it would be so bad it's fun to laugh at), but I actually found myself adequately diverted the entire time, despite there being not much to laugh at. The action sequences were fairly well-done and the visuals, while almost entirely cribbed from better movies and often looking quite "video game-y," were still nice to look at. I definitely prefer this over Wiseman's last effort, Live Free or Die Hard, though that's not saying much.
And this last part really pains me to say, but the person who actually came out of this looking good to me was....I can't believe I'm about to say this...Jessica Biel. I normally can't stand her and physically cringe whenever people suggest her for superhero movies, but in this, I thought her performance was right on par with Farrell's (who I generally love and thought was fine in this), and better than Beckinsale's. This is the first time I've seen Biel in something in which I didn't feel she brought the project down a peg. So good for her. Don't get me wrong, I won't be suggesting her for any superhero movies any time soon, but maybe I'll stop visibly cringing whenever she's brought up, lol.
Overall, I'd probably give the movie a 5.5-6/10. Not a horrible way to spend 12 bucks and a night out with friends, but really, it's a rental.
