Don't believe the hate. The anti-remake crowd are just hating it and can't comprehend that some people might be enjoying it and are using the fact that professional critics destroyed the movie to say that everyone should hate it.

What really bothers me is had it been a direct copy, people would've b*tched so when they got something different instead, *GASP* they still b*tch!

I can see you haven't bothered to read a single comment in this thread.:whatever:

The only people who hated this movie were the film critics and as we know film critics make up about 80% of the population thus explaining this movies poor performance.

lol. Exactly. Surely the failure of the movie had nothing to do with the boring drab trailers, the box office poison duo of Jessica Beil and Colin Ferrell and the mediocre screenplay that lacked story, likable characters and anything that the audience hasn't seen done better in a 100 other films.

I don't care what anybody says. Its the best science fiction movie this year aside from Prometheus and Men In Black III. Shame most of you guys can't enjoy it. Hopefully, it will be appreciated later when it comes out for home release.

From what Ive seen from a lot of reviews from both joe public and critics the most damning thing is that it's simply boring. I have not seen it myself so I can't say if that's right or not

Could you explain what there is to enjoy in this? The charactes are unlikable so you dont care about what happens to them, and the movie spoils the ending in the very first scene of the movie so there is absolutely no tension to build upon which especially makes one scene in the movie a per definition "waste of time". I'll give you that some of the action scenes are quite good, but others are just copy-pasted from the previous scene: ie. the run and jump over obstacles, to get to a location where they run and jump over obstacles, to get to a location where they run and jump over obstacles.

Meh... it's a procedural action flick that they tried to make pretty looking with a Minority Report backdrop.

It didn't break any new ground with the story and they didn't even attempt to have any fun with it (which at least the original can boast). The movie took itself wayy too damn serious and Farrell just isn't a dynamic enough lead to carry a movie like this.

are there any deeper meanings to this movie? something i missed?

the biggest sin a movie like Toral Recall can make is that its boring. i dont have a problem with a serious summer action movie. but then you need some complex story.
and since this is a Arnie remake people think that we wanted one liners. no. just make it more fun. Beckinsale was having fun and you can see it the movie. Cranston? i would like to know how is it possible for a writter and director to make Cranston look like a boring villain.

and where is any backdrop story why the whole world( i know its one big city) is quiet when Cranston is ''ruling '' the planet.

So it is the third best sci-fi film a little over half way through the year, where there hasn't been any other real big budget sci-fi films? :funny:

Also, Avengers was better.

i'll wait for the DVD

a couple of friends saw it the other day and they said the movie was a huge letdown. in fact, they said it kind of sucked in certain parts. the original is a 1,000 times better in fact.

No, it just seems like people wanted it to be exactly like the original film (funny, mutants, Mars, ambigious ending etc.), Academy Award performances, or just something more than what it was: a great popcorn action flick.

Just like Act Of Valor, I went to go watch it at the theater to be entertained and I was, but sadly people insist on being nitpicky and ruining it for everybody else that might've been interested.

I thought this film was alright. Not as good as the original, but a solid sci-fi action film. Kate Beckinsale was the best thing in it, IMO, though Colin Farrell did a fine job too.

I liked the look of the film quite a bit. It felt like a mishmash of other sci-fi films, but I didn't mind that. My criticisms are that I wish there had been a bit more humor, Jessica Biel didn't really do anything for me, and I didn't get why Cranston was so actively involved. I think the film would've done better with him being in the background having Kate be the main antagonist, perhaps with another henchmen.

I kind of almost liked this better than the original. :ninja:

But it was definitely on par with the original, and I did like the obvious nods to the original.

Haha yay! And boo!

I gotta say though, Kate Beckinsale has finally impressed me in this movie. It was so weird seeing Cranston as such a jack ass, but I loved it. I didn't care for the change of character of Harry, especially in the confrontation scene, it was just done better in the original. But the effects and fight choreography were amazing.

Then just do something new that's not a remake of a more beloved Arnie movie.

I don't get the hate either.
It was a fun film with action moment that at least weren't cliche.
The elevator chase scene and the zero grav moments during The Fall in the finale.
Kate Beckinsale chewing scenery as a villain was great!

I do believe critics are able to shape expectations with early reviews.

It was a fun popcorn action film, humbug on the haters. I scored it a 9.

Then you shouldn't make false assertions that everyone hates it just because professional critics hate it.

People stop blaming the critics for a movies failure! The entire transformers franchise has been bashed by critics and still makes 3 billion dollars because it actually has good viewer word of mouth.

Total recall has had terrible word of mouth thus people staying away and its huge 2nd week drop.

Heh, it's funny that Beckinsale was the surprise for you, because Biel was the surprise for me. Don't get me wrong, I don't think she did anything special in it, but I felt like she actually held her own with the rest of the cast (all of whom I thought did well with what little they were given to work with), and that's the first time I've felt that way about any of her performances. Faint praise, sure, but it made a positive impression on me nonetheless.

And I too enjoyed the fight choreography along with the aesthetic they were going for as well, even if the effects often did give off that "video game" feel to me. So like I said earlier in this thread, I actually enjoyed this movie more than I expected, despite my many misgivings. Which, again, is more than I can say for the original.

Nah, man.

No, it made a lot of money because of kids.

kids? i saw people from 17-30 in my theater. with all 3 movies full theaters.

and a movie makes money because of repeat viewings. for the TF franchise to make so much money people watched it 2-3 times.

transformers is a popular brand with lots of history with world wide appeal to all ages much like spiderman don't see why people are surprised those movies made so much good or bad films aside
