TPBs Bought/Thought Thread

I don't think it really got me until I read the Last Castle. Though that business with the Farm really made me wanna continue reading it.

I thought Willingham did a fantastic job of parodying Orwell's Animal Farm in the context of his own characters and story. That was what won me over. Along with Bigby and Blue, who are awesome.

Bigby is the awesome on so many levels. But I didn't care for Blue, until he took that trip to the homelands. Badass.

Finished reading:

Identity Crisis

I read both trades of Kyle Barkers Plastic Man. Picked them up very cheaply (both for £8).

My God I actually loved it, it's completely unlike anything and from what I've read a lot like Jack Cole's original version. It's really funny and he's put so much time into the book it's so unique.

Well worth a look if you see it cheap anywhere.

I remember picking up the first few issues when it came out, didn't care for it. But my tastes have changed since then, I may enjoy it.

pick up Green Arrow: Archer's Quest too

Same really, back then I couldn't understand why they weren't building on his appearances in JLA (which after all is where I know him from) and this out of continuity, cartoony funny book wasn't appealing at all.

I think it is comparable to Cooke's Spirit - just a perfect combination of creator and character and them being allowed to run with it. It's certainly not for everyone but there is a reason it won Eisners.

Just spent a buttload on some TPBs/HCs. Took the advice of various posters around here and am starting to branch out from the usual stuff. I got:

Daredevil: Hell To Pay vol. 2
-I have no doubts this will be great

X-Factor vol. 3
-Again, no doubts this will be a solid read

The Killing Joke HC
-Looking forward to re-reading this with new coloring and in the HC format

The Man Who Laughs HC
-Just looking forward to reading this. Period.

Y: The Last Man (vol. 1 and vol. 2)
-Is this as good as everyone says it is? I'm looking forward to reading it

Marvel 1602 HC
-I've been dying to read this. Plus, it's Gaiman.

Marvels HC
-I've known about this a long time, but never got around to reading it.

Invincible Ultimate Collection vol. 1 HC
-Once again, is this as good as everyone says it is? I really hope so...

Believe it or not, I was able to get all of that for a little over about $110.

If anyone does not know about this website, I can not recommend it enough. It's called InStockTrades.com. Their prices are unbeatable and their customer service is great...I once had a TPB that feel apart a couple weeks after I bought it after only reading it once...and I'm very picky with the condition of my trades. So I emailed customer service and they told me to ship it back, they'd pick up the shipping, and send me a new one for free. Great site!

Finished Fables volume 9: The Good Prince. Loved it. Flycatcher has become one of my all time favorite characters because of this. Awesome story. Great to see Fly's metamorphosis from lowely brain addeled janitor to Mystic Warrior King over here. Great stuff. Rating: Bee P***y!

I have to agree with Fables: The Good Prince (Volume 10. Volume 9 was Sons of Empire:oldrazz:). Fables always makes for a great read, but this was by far one of the best. I had no clue what would happen with Fly when I first saw him mopping the lobby of the Woodlands and didn't think much of him as just a nice guy and comedy relief. It floored me and made me realized I forgot an important lesson from my favorite TV show that equally applies to Fables "No one here is exactly what he appears"

As for my recent purchases:

Rex Mundi Volumes 2-4

Yeah, that was an awesome read. One of the best volumes so far.

I bought Queen and Country Definitive Edition Volume 1.

I thought I'd been a fan of Rucka for years but never read this (also Whiteout which I plan to buy after these) and I'm about halfway through the volume now and I'm loving it.

It's certainly Rucka honing his craft, you can see stuff he is doing here play out in all his DC work - Gotham Central and Checkmate especially. You have all the Rucka hallmarks here, strong females, Gunfights, managers arguing politics and policy over desks, crazy off the record ops and deaths of cast. It's all classic Rucka and it doesn't disappoint.

It's a great book and I'd feel safe recommend it to anyone (especially people who've enjoyed his stuff), plus it's nice being set in Britain too. The Definitive Editions are also well worth it, 12 issues in each (3 total) they cost under £10 and they beautifully present the comic. Well worth it.

I also bought Scott Pilgrim Volume 1, read it and bought Volume 2 today. It's so readable they last no time at all.

Whiteout's pretty sweet. I still have to read Queen and Country. I intend to read pretty much everything Rucka's done in comics eventually.

Yeah same really, it's rather interesting how many times he can write "strong but flawed woman with a gun" and it still be refreshing.

I even plan to read Questioya and Crime Bible but I'm still angry at him for her existence.

I'm over Questoya's existence (although I will continue to call her "Questoya" and never "the Question"). It's his insistence on including Batwoman in everything that I hate. It's like he thinks she can be a real character instead of the one-note token she started out as.

Just finished Rex Mundi: The Guardian of The Temple. I've never read Rex Mundi before but the first volume hooked me.

The only thing I didn't like is the binding. I've never had a cover almost fall off the book after the first read.

Just finished Daredevil: Hell to Pay vol. 2. SPECTACULAR!! Not only one of the best Daredevil stories I've ever read (on par with Frank Miller's stuff), but one of the best comics I've ever read. Intense from start to finish.

Just bought (aka "Splurging with newly gained money"):

Eternals by Neil Gaiman HC
Avengers Assemble vol. 1 HC
Runaways vol. 1 HC
Fantastic Four by Waid/Ringo vol. 1 HC
Sandman: Preludes and Nocturnes
Spider-Man Loves MJ HC
(love that book)
Invincible: Ultimate Collection vol. 2 HC

Just got back from the comic store and got Punisher: Mother Russia and Ultimate Spiderman: Volume 8. I've only read the first couple of pages of Ultimate Spiderman and it's a little slow and getting really annoying how peter talks about how his life sucks but I'm sure it will pick up. Haven't read any of Punisher: Mother Russia yet but I heard from a lot of people it's great.

I BOUGHT THE QUESTION VOL. 1 ZEN & VIOLENCE
THE QUESTION VOL. 2 POISONED GROUND

i enjoyed them both, and I am a big fan of The Question, but I dunno IF I SHOULD GET VOL. 3 - 6 when they come out!

IF ANY OF YoU ARE FAMILIAR W/ the series, WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS????????

Bought Brit: Volume 2.
Man, I don't think I was in the right frame of mind at the time I read it to keep up with all the different plot threads in the book, so I'm gonna have to give it a second reading some time soon.

[blackout]The surprise appearance of fellow Image Kirkman characters, Astounding Wolf-Man, Invincible, and especially Tech Jacket, were all sweet as well. Can't wait to see where that plotline goes in Volume 3.[/blackout]
