Why is it that whenever somebody gives a less than stellar review of a special effects movie that atleast one poster says that people hate the movie and were expecting oscar bait?

Expecting an action adventure movie to be somewhat good is not expecting oscar bait. It's an action movie and the sequel to a 28 year old mediocre tech demo, so no, I wasn't expecting an Aaron Sorkin level screenplay, nor was I expecting the greatest performances ever.

I actually got exactly what I thought I would get; a movie thats all flash and no heart and or substance. Popcorn movies have to be good too and this one is just "eh" as I suspected.

I'm happy that the fans of the original like it but it didn't do much for me outside of the beautiful visuals and soundtrack. I'm not even mad about it though because I didn't pay for the flick and I didn't expect anything.

Tron/Rinzler was a badass mofo. I wish they redeemed him completely though. There's that hint at the end, so I wouldn't mind him being a major character again in the next Tron outing.

He should be back in full force in the next one. What will be interesting to see though is if they'll put all the resources in again to do a CG young Bruce Boxleitner or if they'll just keep his helmet on the whole time.

People, including many film snobs, have liked far worse films. And they know it.

Yup. And at least a few of them, ironically, were Disney films. I guess the "Disney can do no wrong" ideal died sometime for these people before Tron came out.

It's pretty typical around here.
Some people around an internet forum loved it, and they can't handle when other people don't share that love for it.

I only responded to that post because it came after mine, thus making me think that it was directed towards me.

I'm a-okay with people disagreeing with my review but to imply that I am a snob because I didn't really care for the film is a little over the top. The Expendables is on my top ten list and I only gave the Black Swan a 7 out of 10 for reasons I mentioned in the "last movie you've seen" thread. I must be the strangest filmsnob on the planet. I mean, the Karate Kid remake and The Other Guys are on my top ten list!

Believe me, if I were a film snob, I'd own the s**t out of that title but I'm not so...yeah, I don't want to be called one.

It wasn't. I should have made that more clear, I apologize. It was more towards the stuff I was reading over at the imdb forums. It's universal hate over there, with no one really saying why exactly.

Also, The Other Guys is a ****ing classic. :o

Nah, I get it.
I didn't like it that much either. I mean. it wasn't horrible, it's just that I thought everything was pretty mediocre outside the visual effects and the music. And apparently that's not "valid" enough for some people that loved the movie.

Hell, people loved the movie? That's fine. But they gotta get it through their heads that some people didn't, and that doesn't make them wrong.

I hope so. That brief flashback with an unmasked Tron was very cool. I thought for sure he was going to unmask near the end.

Saw it last night and enjoyed the hell outta it. Was it Shakespear? Of course not - it's TRON. Still fun as hell, though.

I gave it a 7 out of 10.

The IMDB posters are almost as bad as Youtube ones. I actually hate them very much, even when I do agree with them.

It sure is.:awesome:

Think about this: What was Sam holding when he was leaving - what was he holding when he left?

And the grid wasn't shut down, it wiped clean by Kevin.

Well, the last thing he held before he left was Kevin's disk. Then it flew away above him to who knows where and Sam returned to the real world. I dont think this establishes anything about his necklace card. Flynn didn't return to the real world with his disk in the first movie.

I dont remember him taking anything with him out of the arcade other than the card.

I don't think there is any confirmation that Kevin's BOOM ruined the whole grid, either. I personally think it just destroyed the immediate area around the portal. Quorra said that remerging with Clu would kill HIM, not EVERYONE.

Sam did kill the power on the computer that the grid was running on, after backing up whatever he backed up onto his card.

I think he downloaded the entire grid onto his card. I'm guessing the plot of the next movie will involve him uploading the grid from his card onto a computer hooked up to the internet, and the internet playing a large part in the story. In Legacy, it was a private server.
I do hope that he can use Flynn's ID disk to create a backup of him to resurrect him. I would seriously miss Jeff Bridges.

Exactly.

LOVED IT.

there are a FEW and i mean a FEW loose ends... (nothing about dillinger established) but i loved it. the biggest complaint i had was integration of 2D vs 3D.
They could have used the 3d a bit more than it was used.

The previews had better 3D than the movie. it was like all they did in the movie was just give us light depth perception.

I don't think you're a film snob. You just have horrible taste. :cwink:

Just kidding. You're entitled to your own opinions. But The Karate Kid? Seriously? Well, you are a Twilight fan, so..

Alot of people liked the Karate Kid, it also had better reviews than Tron Legacy.:oldrazz:

I try to ignore the bad dialogue and acting in Twilight just how I tired to in Tron Legacy.:oldrazz:

And please fans don't bash me for these jokes and call me a troll, I'm just razzing That-Guy.

The film was as "souless" as batman begins with an actor just as stiff.
I enjoyed them both.

LOL, I know you're not a troll.

Yeah, I'm still unclear on how The Karate Kid got good reviews. I think critics either have two options when it comes a movie starring the child of a famous actor: they either praise the little brat like he's the second coming of his parent or they bash him for being handed roles just because of his family. I don't have anything against Jaden personally but I'm sorry, I just can't buy a kid who is 3'2" and built like a walking stick jumping around and kicking ass.

But then, I'll admit, I am a bit biased. I've always found Jackie Chan to be a terrible actor, and that disdain was amplified by my ex-girlfriend, who thought he was brilliant. That wouldn't have bothered me if she wasn't the most pretentious acting critic on earth, who would find reasons to tear apart every Oscar-winning performance in the world. Yet JACKIE CHAN would always get a pass.

a good movie not great by any means of the imagination. i wasnt sure what to expect when going in but it was still fun to watch.

But... films aren't supposed to be fun to watch, didn't you know that?

When I go to see a movie, I expect to feel like someone is driving rusty nails into my gums with a sledgehammer and then spraying pesticides into the wounds.

:wow:

While the film did drag a bit in the middle the movie was fun & it had amazing visuals

Rumored Tron 3 Details
Nobody really knows right now what to expect from Tron: Legacy at the box office. In production for the past three years, with Disney doing everything that could to get the name out there, it's unknown how mainstream audiences will react to the film (mixed reviews from critics aren't helping either). If the movie is a success, however, the plan has always been to have the story continue, and plans are indeed in the works to have Tron 3 ready.

*Spoiler Warning: Below I have included some details about Tron: Legacy that you may not want to know. This is me giving you a fair warning*

What's Playing has been in contact with folks over at Disney, and have learned a few things about what we can expect from the possible next installment. Off the bat, one thing that they mention is that Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz have not yet finished the script, and are, instead, only at the idea stages, with five or six different storylines floating around. The next bit of info will answer questions as to why Yori/Laura (played by Cindy Morgan in the 1982 original film) wasn't included in Tron: Legacy, while both Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges) and Tron/Alan Bradley (Bruce Boxleitner) are. According to the site, the writers looked at Tron: Legacy as Flynn's story, meaning that there was no room for the Yori/Laura characters and they didn't want to just stick in a random, meaningless cameo. As a result, a few of the multiple storylines mentioned above will have heavier focus on both Alan and Laura. Furthermore, the cameo made by Cillian Murphy at the beginning of the film will likely expand to a much larger role, with both a real-life version of himself and a program version (it would seem the actor is already committed to doing this). There's also talk that Kevin Flynn may not be a part of the next film, with Alan and Laura providing the call back to the original movie.

All of this information is entirely dependent on how the film is received in theaters. If the movie is a success, Kitsis and Horowitz will likely pick up their pens and get straight to work. Otherwise, this may be the last we see of the Tron universe.

Rumored Tron 3 Details

Interesting. I really hope we do get part 3. Opening weekend numbers were pretty good, but it just depends on whether or not the movie has legs. Movies can do well over Christmas weekend though, so hopefully this one will rake in some cash and be over $100M by this time next week.

I'm positive Murphy will emerge as the new villain. But I really hope Bridges comes back! I don't think you could do a Tron movie without him, even if his role isn't as big as it was this time.

the visuals were amazing and half the movie was fantastic but for me the movie loses it's way for the second half of the movie like they just ran out of ideas.

7 out of 10
or
3 out of 5

good entertainment but doesn't strive to be great entertainment.

If there is going to be another Tron movie then I want Quorra and Sam back,to me Sam is more active than Kevin, and I like that.
