I thought that in both movies (original tron/T:L) both movies lose their way a little after the frisby/light cycle games. both movies needed a stronger concept then just getting back to the real world.

The movie is definitely not as bad as people are making out to be. Its like an amusement park ride...nothing more, nothing less. This reminds me of when Transformers 1 came out...it wasn't meant to be a legit movie, it was just a straight up fun movie to enjoy on a saturday night. There is nothing wrong with that. My biggest complaint is that I wish Tron had more action, the middle of the film kind of dragged a bit. Other than that I really had fun watching it. It gets 8/10 for me.
I really hope it picks up at the box office because I'd love to see a sequel...all though it is looking unlikely.
Btw the action scenes were just great, top notch.

The Spill guys summed it up best -- if you can't draw me in with the action, draw me in with the story. if you can't draw me in with the story, draw me in with the action. this movie failed to deliver on both accounts.

The action scenes were entertaining during the opening scenes in The Grid, it's the rest of the movie that failed.

I don't understand how anyone could be happy with the quality of Tron 2. I've seen far better silly action films get raked over the freakin coles on the site for having 50% less problems than Tron 2.

I agree with you, but I've pretty much given up trying to argue these points to the naysayers. Their unified opinion seems to be: "The movie was pretty to look at but it was crap and if you liked it, you're an idiot."

But I have been labled a grump for not ignoring the bad story, lead performance and bad dialogue. I'm not going to apologize for having a different opinion or being baffled by people overlooking these things while endlessly crying about better movies.

There was absolutely no character development and the dialogue was Ambien in word form. This mostly comes from the director's inexperience with directing actors. Bridges was basically playing The Dude and Hedlund and Wilde just read their lines. This movie could have been something special if the talent behind it were more experienced.

I hope that means Grit is going to be a beast at the boxoffice. Anyway, they didn't give her much to do but I liked where Wilde was going with her performance. I just don't think that this type of movie is Hedlund's thing.

I was always leery about Legacy's director not cutting his teeth on a smaller movie before hand and that worry proved to be correct. "This movie could have been special if the talent behind it were more experienced," is the best quote in this entire thread. I keep talking about the movie with my sister and we always find a new "if only they would've..."

Kosinski: Boy I learned a lot. I would say, first of all I wanna make sure I get more time. Time to actually shoot the movie. I think we shot this one in like 65 days, which is insane. And, you know obviously it’s the same as on any film, I’d like to have the script in a much better place from day one of shooting, rather than trying to continue to work on it while you shoot it. I think those are lessons you learn on any film.

Saw it tonight, it was alright. Never could watch the entire first movie because I think it is absolutely terrible, which it is, but this one is a definite elevator ride up twenty stories. The 3D sucked. What a terrible waste of money and a terrible waste of massive potential. The story was the basic weak sauce formula but the acting, action, visuals, and the score was awesome sauce. As others have said, the characters were bland. If the characters and the story were beefed up, this would have been a really good movie. Coulda, woulda, shoulda, dooda.

I heard nothing about this movie being rushed. I was wondering when the excuses were going to come out to play. The fact is the studio greenlit a piss poor screenplay and foolishly hired a man who had never directed a feature film before. I'm sorry but those were stupid things to do but not shocking in this movie climent of "dumber is better."

I'm not just picking on Tron by the way, I thought that the Sherlock Holmes and Star Trek scripts were tripe too, the difference is this, the acting and directing were far better when it came to those films. I loved the cast, the directing, the sense of fun and pacing in Trek so I mostly overlook the too silly humor and stupid plot. As for Holmes, I'm still not too sweet on it but I loved RDJ and Law's chemistry and uh...the actions scenes were fun.

I'm not some ogre who throws movies away because they have alot of flaws. If there is something to love, I'll look pass alot of that s**t. I could have lived with Tron's stupid nonesense plot if I really enjoyed the performances, cared a little about atleast one of the characters and didn't absolutely dislike the pacing. Tron isn't the worst movie I've seen this year but I just couldn't get over my dislike of Hedlunds bland performance, the underuse of Wilde, Jeff Bridges being Jeff Bridges by of The Dude and the awful, awful dialogue and overall cheesy feeling of the film. And I like cheese...when it's good. I wish I walked out saying, "could've been better but a still a decent fun time at the cinema" but I didn't. The first part in The Grid is entertaining if not exactly good but after that I was totally on the outs with the movie.

I'm not trying to convince anyone to share my meh feelings, I just wanted to get accross that I'm not being negative for negatives sake.
