Turtles forever

I have nothing against the look and feel, but an animated black & white cartoon? In this day and age? Except for hardcore fans, not many would like it. Maybe in form of a direct to DVD movie.

I know if I were a kid, I would find it to be awesome just because it looks so dark and bad ass. That factor is what made me watch Batman as a kid.

Nickelodeon of all companies is not about to cater to a select section of the TMNT fanbase. They'll probably go about as far into mature and violent territory as the last airbender cartoon did.

Which honestly wouldn't be too bad. Airbender had some good mature themes. Zuko's family was all kinds of ****ed up. With his father being told to kill him when he was young, his mother exiled and his sister being a complete psychopath.

They're not going to cater to any section of the fanbase. They're probably going to re-introduce the brand, for today's generation of kids.

Turtles Forever was a labor of love made specifically for the fans and all the people who have grown up with and enjoyed the property, the last twenty five years.

I just hope the new cartoon will be at least as good and mature as the 2k3 cartoon was.

It may or it may not be, we shall see. It's going to be interesting to see how it differentiates itself, considering how fresh the 2k3 series still is in the minds of fans. Personally, I'm expecting something somewhere along the lines of TMNT 2k7. It might just be because having seen a CG TMNT has colored my expectations, but that seems like it'd be the ideal direction to go with a CG TV series.

I would be content if we got TLA violence cuz I was surpised when I first watched TLA I was shocked that it was actually on Nick lol

Yeah, if anything, Nick is going to make a strong attempt to replicate the success that the TMNT franchise enjoyed during the late 1980's/early 1990's. Which will include a fresh beginning for both fans, and children who may not be familiar with the property.

And I agree that Turtles Forever was indeed a labor of love. That was very evident. And it was a pretty satisfying way in giving both the OT Turtles and the 2k3 Turtles a proper sendoff on a high note.

Loved it.

A little disappointed that they couldn't get the original voices from the 80's cartoon (particularly Rob Paulsen and James Avery), but I guess the union wouldn't allow it :o .

Still, you can't not love [BLACKOUT]Yugi[/BLACKOUT] as 80's Leo, or [BLACKOUT]Shadow the Hedgehog[/BLACKOUT] as Mirage Leo :awesome: .

Yeah, but B:TAS wasn't black & white. A faithful adaptation of the original Mirage comic could work...but not in black & white.

Would we even want a faithful adaptation? How long was Shredder in the original Mirage comics? Didn't he die way early and then got resurrected like once? I have only read a few Mirage comics.

Shredder expolded in the first issue, came back as some kind of ninja worm demon thing, was clone(we saw this in the 2k3 show), and much much later popped up again in the Battle Nexus in vol 4 as a not evil shredder.

While hes the main bad guy in every other turtle media, he was a chump in the comic.

The 2k3 show is the closest you'll get to a Mirage inspired animated show for kids, and it was a pretty damn good one at that. It used most of the well known aspects and storylines from the original Mirage books, while still staying accessible to kids.

Hence the joke in the movie.
And I loved that.

Geez I really hope the guys behind the Last Airbender become the showrunners on the new TMNT. They aren't doing anything and they know how to mix action and humor really well.

It's a good thing that they upped his importance in other Turtle Media. The Utrom Shredder is the most badass one of all of them. My only nitpick is, that he's in fact a Utrom. I try to ignore that knowledge whenever I see him in full armor.

Yeah, I think that Shredder's status as the arch nemesis was a major improvement (was it the '87 cartoon that started this trend?). If I were the people planning the new Live Action movies, that's one place where I would not follow the comic, and would instead look to the 2k3 series although I agree about disliking Shredder being an Utrom. I would have much preferred that they kept Shredder as a human, and possibly introduced Krang as being an evil Utrom (in the 2k3 series there was an Utrom named Krang, but he only had a cameo).

Interestingly, in the 2k3 series there was a human Oroku Saki that Utrom Shredder commandeered the name and motif of, and it's arguable that the human Shredder was even more of a bad ass than the Utrom Shredder. He acquired demonic powers and laid waste to much of ancient Japan before he was defeated, so really Utrom Shredder is a wannabe of an even more bad ass version of The Shredder who was human.

Still though, regardless of wheter is the Utrom Shredder or the demonic-powered human Shredder, the 2k3 series has pretty much the most bad ass version of Shredder ever, so both the writers of the new show and the new movie should take note of what they got right with him.

Will we get a DVD of the uncut feature length movie?
Maybe. 4kids can't make any deals like that now. It's all Viacoms ballgame now. And the lack of many of there shows(animated) having good dvds besides Spongebob its highly unlikely we will see any 2k3 dvds for awhile.

And the fact the 2k3 versions never sold well on dvd, and the dvd market the way it is now is terrible.

So maybe it'll come out. But not for awhile.

was it the '87 cartoon that started this trend?

Yes. The `87 toon, despite all its backlash, did make some improvements over the source material. That being one of them. I also prefer reporter April O' Neil. The antique shop/scientists assistant April just doesn't do it for me. I like that reporter April has that Lois Lane vibe to her. It makes joining the Turtles' fight against evil more plausible.

This is why I think the 1990 live-action movie is still the best adaptation. It combined the Mirage comic with the `87 toon. It combined the best of both worlds. And I hope Nick heads in that direction with their toon and movie.

I agree the 1990 live-action version was the best adaptation. April was a reporter, but she wasn't totally useless and personality-less like '87 April. Shredder was their main adversary but he was a serious threat that could take the Turtles all on by himself. The turtles viewed Splinter more like a father figure instead of just a teacher like in the '87 version. I think it just took the best of both world while there is stuff I wish 2k3 Turtles did or didn't use.

How is Scientist April joining the Turtles any less plausible? After having her life saved, they've already become friends. And just because she's more of a tech geek, doesn't mean she doesn't have any spunk. She's already far more useful, since she can provide some technical help and later learned enough moves to not end up as a damsel in distress most of the time.

Yes, different adaptations of the TMNT material, instead of going strictly by-the-book from the source material, have certainly made TMNT more accessible and that's a great thing for any franchise.

Like Timstuff mentions in his post, it was indeed the '87 toon that really made the Shredder the "Darth Vader" of the TMNT franchise. Which wasn't the original intent of the character (to which they really tried sticking with that in the Mirage books for the most part), but who cares. It happened. It worked. He's a great visual. Fans of TMNT like Shredder as a returning villains, so why not go with it? Thankfully, they did just that thru various adaptations like the '87 toon/ early '90's live action films and the rest is history.

As far as the live action 1990 film goes, I like that adaptation as well. The movie really kept that essence of those early TMNT issues, but I have to say I particularly prefer the variation of the back story between Hamato Yoshi, and Oroku Saki (rather than Nagi) that was presented. Which I think really improved upon the source material.

They never beat him. In the first movie it was a combination of Splinter and Casey Jones. In the sequel, he in-directly killed himself when he broke the bridge.

Don is the only technical help that they need. If anything, April being a reporter works because she can snoop around for them. Look at the first movie, for example. She was already investigating the Foot Clan before the Turtles even joined the fight. The only reason Ralph had to save her was cause she was getting to close and Shredder ordered for her to be killed. The Shredder didn't even know the Turtles' existance till one of the Foot Clan members followed Ralph after his rescue.
