If not even copy and imitate the already perfectly established Joker.
To copy Heath Ledger's acting would be disrespectful and an insult toward the deceased actor. I would rather see D-Day playing the same sinister character, but in his own way.

General Streck *talking on the phone* What is the condition of D.A. Harvey Dent?

*pause*

Very well, let me know if there is any change in his condition for the sequel.

*Hangs up*

He's dead.

Maybe, but wouldn't it be disrespect to the character of the Joker, which is already established, to be changed in a manner by an actor?

Why would it be so disrespectful? If they establish that the actor who plays the Joker should try to imitate Heath's performance it would mean that his acting is so great and celebrated that it deserves to be copied to keep unity. I don't see how that can be disrespectful.

Of course, they would have to cast a fantastic actor to not only could be an awesome Joker, but also who could convince as imitating Ledger's Joker. That's the tough part.

And I am not against recasting the role. I am sure there are great actors who could capture the essence of the character and deliver an awesome work. But, as I have said in other threads, story is king. If there is no plausible reason for bringing back the character (i.e., helping Batman's story to develop), then I am satisfied with what we had from Heath Ledger and the whole cast and crew of TDK.

Two-face is confirmed as dead! I can live with that. But I hate how everyone who had thought that he was alive is treated as dumbasses. Wow, I guess having different interpretation of an ambiguous scene(in the movie's context) makes you a ******. Let's all have the same opinions then.

Oh, don't worry about that. If Nolan had said that Dent was alive, I am sure everybody who believed he was alive would be treating everyone who didn't believe so as dumbasses. You are just on the 'wrong' side this time.

I never believed Dent was alive and I saw no ambiguity even after seeing the movie 3 times, although I admit it would not be hard to bring him back. All it would take is a few typed letters like:

INT. - ARKHAM ASYLUM - DAY

HARVEY DENT, using the asylum's uniforme, half-scarred face, GAZES into nothing.

Or whatever.

They could easily bring him back. These films might be more realistic under Nolan's helm, but they're still based on the Batman comic books, where many of the rogue's gallery of villains have been seemingly killed off several times over the years, only to miraculously survive and come back for more bouts with the Caped Crusader.

Slight difference, it's a movie, and generally cheap 'back from the dead' plots dont work.

eckhart said it on kimmel last night. "harvey dent is dead"

...but what if....two-face isn't...oOoOOoOoo

no that would take away from the epicness of tdk.

He is DEAD and how fanboys could think otherwise is just sad. Even sadder is that 55% of people voted yes he'd be back even after the actor stated the character DIED.

1. Looking dead doesn't mean he is dead.
2. If he can survive a car crash, why can't he survive a fall?
3. He did not get enough screentime AT ALL. I know the story was about Harvey Dent, but there was WAY too much of Dent. Two Face is a big part of Dent's life and you can't just kill him off prematurely.

Amen. I agree with every word.

Aaron Eckhart on Two-Face
Source:Heather Newgen
September 4, 2008

SPOILER ALERT!: The following article spoils certain aspects of The Dark Knight. If you have not seen the movie, turn back now!

Yes, it's true. Aaron Eckhart says goodbye to Batman. At the press day for his upcoming indie film Towelhead, ComingSoon.net/Superhero Hype! talked to the actor who portrayed Harvey Dent/Two-Face in The Dark Knight. He told us he's definitely not signed on for another film and confirmed his character is dead.

Eckhart laughed about how he tried to ask if there was a chance he was coming back and was good-humored about the deadly fate of Dent.

CS/SHH!: Is Harvey Dent alive?
Aaron Eckhart: No. He is dead as a door nail.

CS/SHH!: So he's not coming back?
Eckhart: He ain't coming back baby!

CS/SHH!: I was hoping he would.
Eckhart: No. I asked Chris [Nolan] that question and he goes, "You're dead" before I could even get the question out of my mouth. "Hey Chris, am I?" "You're dead!" Alright, cool.

--------

Are you freaking kidding me! Two-Face is dead??!! I was absolutely convinced he survived that fall. He's perfect for the sequel. Of course I wanna see Jolie as the cat. She's the perfect choice but no Two-Face?? The two could easily team up. That character was fantastic! His image of Two-Face was flawless....son of a biscuit eating bulldog...

Yes, he would, if Nolan had decided to leave the revenge plot for the third movie, or if Two-Face had been portrayed as a regular bad guy. That was not the case. So, it would not make sense to have him back to be a mob boss or rob banks or commit crimes at 2:22.

^ Good point, Two Face returning would only have made sense if the revenge plot was left out of film two, but Nolan crammed that plot device into film two, essentially, the 'third film' everyone thought we'd be getting was in fact in film two, all be it condensed.

not only the actor...but the director himself, too.

how is this thread still here?
-(because people like you keep bumping it!)
Shut Up!!!:cmad:

I hate to say I told you so.

So how about a smiley? :) :woot:

maybe, could be putting a tight lip on this just to surprise everyone. Cillain Murphy never denied or confirmed his cameo in TDK. They were keeping a tight lip about that.

I think that opinion is more based on what a superhero movie is "supposed" to be than facts. Nothing in the movie was ambiguous about Dent's death.

Pecisely the fact Nolan's directing will prevent some cheap last-minute device as bringing him back all of a sudden.

Well, that Murphy's cameo was nothing to be crazy-happy about to start with.

It doesn't have to be a cheap, last-minute device to bring him back, and I don't think he's locked away in Arkham. If he survived that fall, he could have simply been knocked unconscious. With the cops chasing Batman, he could have came to, stood up, and took off in the other direction. Look, I don't really care if they bring Two-Face back. I would like to see other villains get some screentime as well. But he is a great Batman villain, and if they brought him back, I wouldn't be upset. I like the idea that his demise was ambiguous. That is how it should be. Look at the division it's created on the Hype boards.

The script reads,

and i quote in front of me:

"Dent lies at the bottom of the hole, his neck broken. DEAD."

Put it to rest with him. He's done folks.

Some People Just Can't Cope With The Idea

Completely agree with Jow

Can you read?
Have you actually heard what Gordons exact words where in this scene? Maroni.Falling.same high?
http://www.incontention.com/?p=1646 http://uk.movies.ign.com/articles/892/892656p1.html

Why should Emma Thomas said (and been asked the question in the first place?) this if not at least a few really seen the clues in the movie??

Fine I can see, hes dead for Nolan (don`t like but WTF)
But don`t be ridiculous and say it wasn`t even a bit ambiguous in the movie Book is moot point, because Nolan did`t even read that, (same as the Book for BB) it has other dialogue and backgrounds for the charas and script is diffrent because every teacher of basic Filmmaking will tell you, only to judge what you see on screen.
