No, it's a fair assumption based on the circumstances we've been given in the film.
I think it's fair to assume either way. I believe Nolan when he says Two-Face is dead, but I also believed he was going to return when I first saw The Dark Knight. As I said, I'll believe Nolan with whatever direction he takes with the movies, and whatever direction he says he will take before the movies.
I think another fair assumption is that Nolan is not being very predictable with the direction he's trying to take in the next movie, and that we shouldn't expect either side of the argument to be true. We should wait until the next movie comes out, as I've said, to determine what is canon in this line of films.
What I don't think is fair is assuming you KNOW he's dead simply because of what you hear in the news (despite the fact that nothing has been officially announced about the next movie), then berating other posters who believe that Two-Face may be back.
Claiming that you need an autopsy to accept that Two-Face died in The Dark Knight is most certainly overkill. Dent's death is as obvious as Loebs but no one questions that. I walked out of the theater as well as my friends thinking that Dent was dead. I heard someone say, "Why did they kill Dent?" I am still kinda hoping they leave him dead, Dent, the mob killer, seems like a step down from the fantastic arc that we saw.
The media? Your gonna take a cynical point of view on the media to propose that Two-Face actually live? I doubt you'd take such a cynical view if the same media outlets were talking about Eckharts return.
Im just looking at the facts
Movie featured Two-Face lying breathless and Gordon and Batman discussing how they were going to hide his actions. Plus a memorial for the death of Two-Face and Batman saying he'd take the blame.
The screenplay published in
The Dark Knight: Featuring Production Art and Full Shooting Script that said "Dent lies at the bottom of the hole, his neck broken. DEAD."
An audio interview here with Jonathan Nolan, the writer

discussing the dynamic that comes from Batman killing Dent and the thinking that led to Batman killing someone.

Eckhart, after saying he didnt know what was happening but that he would love to return if they let, says Nolan says Dent is dead.
Now, I have even gone out of my way to say that nothing is set in stone and they very well could bring him back, but considering the evidence there I am confident in saying there are no plans to bring him back AT THIS TIME.
And Bathead, I dont think internet people are stupid for speculating, but when they look at the evidence and still say Dent is alive is when I start to wonder.
