Two Years Ago, Jeph Loeb Confirmed a Live Action Hulk Series

I was actually thinking about this earlier today, and from what I read they all but cancelled the idea since Ruffalo and Whedon took the Hulk in such a bold direction in the Avengers. I doubt a She-Hulk series will happen anytime soon though, and truth be told I don't really need one. She's never been one of my favorite characters.

I'd love a She-Hulk show. Maybe she'll be part of Netflix phase 2 if there is one.

She-Hulk makes for great TV in an established Universe... as is, I'm not sure how she'd work doing superhero law in a world where there's only a dozen or so superhumans. Unless she was like a defense lawyer for villains who due to their unique natures haven't been tried yet. That'd be CRAAAAZY interesting.

My guess is that with Daredevil getting a series, She-Hulk can't be far away. Plus, aside from Behemoth, most of her enemies can be done on a TV budget.

A She-Hulk show would be great!

Imagine your "conflicts of interest" if She-Hulk kicks the crap out of a villain then has to represent them in court as a public defender or even prosecute them, in her secret identity of Jennifer Walters. I haven't been the only person, but saying for a while now that they should do She-Hulk (movie or TV) and get someone like Anna Farris, because She-Hulk has always been a combination of smart, funny, and sexy. :woot:

Hmm I would rather see a She Hulk movie, or a Tv movie than a show.

Not too sure what the plans for the cancelled Hulk TV show that (IIRC) Guillermo del Toro was developing has to do with She-Hulk.

The former was a bad idea to start with. Hulk on a TV budget was never going to happen. Similarly, Ruffalo going back and forth from TV to film would be somewhat unfeasible. And if they were getting another actor to portray Banner on TV and divorcing that from the MCU? Cues my inner Comic Book Guy... Worst. Idea. Ever.

As for the latter, I don't know too much about She-Hulk other than the basics, but she just seems a little derivative as a character. Does She-Hulk have any really interesting/compelling story arcs?

While I like the idea of a She-Hulk show, that would be a dumb plot. It has an easy solution: don't keep a secret ID, and go "Sorry, your Honor, but I have a conflict of interest, and my client will need a new lawyer."

I was hoping for Gina Carano. She's the only actress with the build to be She-Hulk. Then there's no need for performance capture, it's just her in green body paint.

Plotwise, she'd be busy with a day job where she works corporate or criminal law but then gets pulled into crime fighting by circumstance. It would be a sitcom with superpowers. Also, She-Hulk would have no fourth wall at all.

If they had the budget, I wonder if it could work as a historic piece, set before the Norton Hulk film, cast a late 20s Banner in the 80s, include an origin and have him on the run from the military as he comes to terms with the Hulk.

Maybe it would be better waiting for Ruffalo to hang up the purple shorts and retire, so as not to confuse with two actors playing the Hulk at the same time.

A young Pym series would also be a possibility.

I don't think Gina Carano can pull off the subtler parts of She-Hulk's personality. Shulkie's not really a badass. She's more a sassy comic character. She needs someone with comic timing. Anyone can get in She-Hulk shape, especially if it's someone who's not model-thin to begin with. But you're right, it would need to be an actress who could just be painted green.

I think the best bet would be Adrienne Palicki, she's about 6' as is, it wouldn't be hard to pass her off as taller than people around her, she's already athletic, and could up that for a big superhero role, she's familiar with genre stuff and she did a great job with the emotional and the comedic stuff on GI Joe: Retaliation.

What would be really interesting is to have two different actresses as human Jen and She-Hulk.

Well from interviews I've seen of Carano, she seems to have a really sweet side to her as well so she might be a good choice. I think it's a matter of there being a screen test first and then making the right cast. I also would only cast one person since Jen seldom reverts. Hulk spends most of his time as Bruce since he doesn't want the savage Hulk, Green Scar or Joe Fixit to come out and tries to hold them in. Rulk reverts since he needs to wear a military uniform for work and his military colleagues can't take a giant red guy walking around the Pentagon seriously. Shulk never reverts at all since she just bought plus size clothing to compensate, she still looks human enough while hulked out to hold down a day job and her personality doesn't change. Whoever gets cast needs to be comfortable wearing green body paint for the duration of the role after the pilot.

I also have a really sweet side. I'm not a very good actor though.

Even if Jen seldom reverts, you cast a 6' muscular actress as a 5' petite woman? Even though Shulkie doesn't revert, you still need to maximize the contrast between her and her original form. If all she gets is a bit of muscle tone and a new wardrobe... that's not very exciting to me. It could still work, but it would feel cheap, like painting Mark Ruffalo green after putting him in the gym for a few months and then hiding his muscles with a purple shirt while he's Bruce. Meh.

Couldn't you just do a visual reduction like what Marvel did in The First Avenger?

Im not sure if casting based solely on build is the best idea ever. It's how we ended up with wrestlers being suggested for Thor. It's too bad Carano isn't a better actor, though. She would be perfect for a superhero.

Carano would be terrible for She-Hulk. She definitely doesn't have the sassy and wise cracking personality and plus she's too short. Also She Hulk still needs to be pretty eloquent and sound intelligent to pull off the lawyer side, even when green. Carano doesn't have that ability. If Shulkie were more if a brute, then maybe Carano might work, but not as Shulkie actually is.

^Absolutely. She-Hulk is miles from a Gina Carano character. And Gina does *Great* with those characters, btw. But there's a reason all her characters are so very very similar.

You could for a movie, and I was also pondering some of the Hobbit techniques of forced perspective and such that might be more TV friendly. A lot of that has to do with specific budget and story and how much original Jen you want in there. Casting a different actress SHAZAM style seems like a cheap solution that gives plenty of dramatic potential.

Again, I was thinking of waiting for a screen test to see if she COULD pull it off but Marvel should keep it as an open casting call with plenty of backups beforehand. If an unknown does a better job than an established name, then she should get the job.
