I dont get why they showed us everyone alive in the future timeline after DOFP. I was kind of hoping that them stopping the Sentinels meant a brand new future,. that we woudl see unfold in the movies.

You just answered your own question. By changing the past, you undo all of the future events of the original trilogy, the 2 Wolverine films, and the 2023 half of DOFP. Anyone that died in those films are now brought back to life courtesy of time travel and their presence represents the new future timeline that was created by the end of DOFP.

Yes,. but now we know Cyclops and company are alive in the future. There is no threat to their lives in these new movies. Not that there was,. but still.

Going by what kinberg said it was written as a possible send off for the Original Cast so it felt more like a happy ending rather then they die as send off and then we move on to a new cast

Who says Apocalypse won't be a threat to their lives? We haven't seen the movie yet to know whether if he'll be a one-and-done villain like Sebastian Shaw or if he'll be a recurring villain like Magneto and William Stryker.

It was also Singer taking back what's his. X3 and Wolverine Origins left the franchise effed up (Cyke, Jean, Professor X dead; Magneto, Mystique, Rogue cured). They destroyed the franchise.

So the end of DOFP is one of two things:
(1) a nice conclusion to Singer's original work with the full cast alive in the end

OR

(2) an open book to create an X4 (or 5? whatever rocks your boat) and to give the original cast a proper conclusion.

Whatever it is, I'd really like to see Rogue developed.

I really don't get this complaint.

So there's "no threat to the lives" of the Avengers? They are slated for movies til 2019 as far as we know.

There's "no threat to the lives" of Superman, Batman, Wonderwoman in BvS. We know they have other movies coming out...

On top of that
There's been amillion prequels that the aforementioned situation didn't threaten. Kids be weird.

People don't want these characters to die anyway, if cyclops dies everyone would be planning his return by mr sinister or something

Am sure even singer knows that by now

Exactly. And as soon as any of the key X-Men characters did die (Xavier, Scott and Jean in X-Men The Last Stand cough cough) or were otherwise changed (Rogue in that same film), the fans were in uproar.

That's different from an actual confirmation in a film for how the characters' stories are going end. Essentially that characters X, Y, and Z are going to be alive and well 30+ years ahead in the future living seemingly peaceful lives.

Superman, Batman, and Wonderwoman are the titular characters of their respective franchises. Batman is never going to die on screen if WB wants to continue making Batman films.

Again this is a completely different situation from the X-Men franchise. You can see just from X:FC to DOFP how much can change. The rosters for both the X-Men and Brotherhood were essentially wiped out off screen. The announcement of sequels does nothing to lock down a roster. No character is "safe" just because of an announcement. The X-Men have always been more mortal than other heroes. That's what I liked about them. Even if it isn't likely for Wolverine or Cyclops to die it always felt like they could. However if the filmmakers honor the ending of DOFP then we know for certain that specific characters are safe and that the new villain who is trying to bring about the end of the world is going to fail.

Anyway I expect Bryan to keep continuity loose and if the DOFP ending poses a problem from a storytelling standpoint he will either ignore it or say that the future was an alternate future.

30 years is a long time. Lots of things can happen.

Fictional heroes can die and come back to life. :oldrazz:

Just like 2-3 year gap between franchise movies. Anything can happen.

The difference between knowing that Cyclops/Jean/Storm/ProfessorX/Beast surviving in the future like 20 years later AND knowing that certain DC/Marvel heroes will make it to the next cross-over/solo film IS we haven't really seen their happy ending unlike those X-Men characters.

As of now, what happens in Apocalypse or in the next FC film, we know the end game of those X-Men characters I mentioned unless there's a twist to it. Unlike those Marvel/DC characters, we still don't know where they are gonna end up after those films are released. Like do you know what Iron Man's fate after Civil War, Avengers 3 and Avengers 4. But the fate of Cyclops, Jean, Storm, Professor X and Beast after Apocalypse and a film set in the 90s? they are alive and well in 2023.

Show of hands, what fans want to see Cyclops, Jean and Xavier killed off? Again.

Jean, sure. She's got the Phoenix. It'll likely happen again. Cyclops and Xavier? We know how much the fans were in an uproar the first time that happened. And we got that stupid comatose twin brother thing as a result.

Do we want to go thru this again?

So from that "happy future" who's left: Storm, Kitty, Colossus, Rogue, Bobby, Beast. I guess you can make the case that part is spoiled for fans. There's no fear of those characters dying now. But so many other things can happen to these characters worst than death.

Wolverine? No chance in hell.

And anyways, there's this:

No, you were trying to make it as an excuse as to why the fate of Cyclops and company were revealed at the end of DOFP. And I just don't agree with that.

If characters living or dying is the only reason we watch these movies then we should all just not watch BvS. We know "B" makes it out. We know "S" makes it out. Does "v" live??

Heck we know W makes it out alive too.

No most of us watch these movies because they are (ideally*) compelling characters that we want to go on a journey with. We know they'll live. They're franchised characters. Doesn't mean they can't still excite us.

So we know Cyclops, Jean, Xavier, Storm, Beast, Kitty, Colossus, Iceman, Rogue and Don't Forget About Wolverine! make it to the future. Some people seem to think there's no point in watching their past adventures because we know they make it out alive.

That's essentially the same thing.

I guess it's X-men's fault as their movies are not titled "Cyclops, Jean, Xavier, Storm, Beast, Kitty, Colossus, Iceman, Rogue and Don't Forget About Wolverine!"

The title of their movie might not have spoiled us into knowing who lives and who dies. But that wretched "happy ending" sure did!

Those mutants. Such troublemakers.

*If only Zack Snyder wasn't directing their debut film :oldrazz:

What happened to your claim that you don't get sarcasm? You seem to dish it out pretty good here.

C'mon people, "end of the world" villains ALWAYS fail. Except in Dragon Ball movies. But in Dragon Ball movies everyone can revive through the Dragon Balls/Shenron so it's no biggie. DOFP having a happy ending or not doesn't change that.

I'm very very sorry that your thread has been derailed, Cyclops.

I don't get how people fail to understand that we watch movies for the journey and not the end? We want to see how young Scott, Jean, Kurt, Jubilee etc come to the mansion under the tutelage of Charles and Hank. We want to see how his estranged sister, one that was once single-handedly responsible for the destruction of humanity, comes to find in herself in a position to lead a group that she once fought against in a different timeline. We want to see these gifted youngsters overcome incredibly powerful mutants. Scott being alive 40 years into the future doesn't take away any sort of interest in seeing how it all unfolds.

well, no one wants their favorite dead. Besides, in ensemble films, it makes sense that it shoould be more about characters growing and deaths should be limited and have a purpose (like Jean's in X2 setting up a Phoenix story). We all know Apocalypse is an origins story (ironically), so we'll see what brought the team together, rather than see everyone blown to smithereens

Prequel stories are usually less interesting for the casual viewers and given by X-Men's track record at the box-office, less people tuned in for Origins and First Class which were prequel films. The hype for Apocalypse isn't even similar to the hype for Days of Future Past. Unless X-Men is already as big as The Lord of the Rings and Star Wars then releasing a prequel after prequels (though this is already prequel film #3) would be beneficial to the series in the long run.

Yes the film is sure interesting, just to see what happened between the past/the new future and how certain members got to be part of the X-Men. But in a way, it undermines the event of the film when you already have an idea which from the X-Men are probably gonna make it to the next film/to the future especially we already saw their possible end-game.

X-Men Origins did leaked 2 weeks early or something according to wiki

Fox estimated the workprint was downloaded roughly 4.5 million times by the time Wolverine was released in theaters.[88] As of 2014, Fox estimates that a minimum of 15 million people downloaded it.
