Supergirl Tyler Hoechlin IS Superman

Supergirl had other photos released quite quickly after the first official still of her costume. Aren't they going to do the same with Superman instead of only releasing one?

I dont watch the show but I really dont get why people don't like it so much.
I didnt expect Hoechlin to be really really ripped. It's TV and he's not even the star of the show. He's only appearing in some episodes

I think more traditional leather style boots and a different belt set-up would go a long way in improving the suit. Maybe if the suit itself had a red band around the waist area -- the same material as the suit -- and a gold belt like Kara's around that red area with a classic gold oval buckle. A gold belt would match the S emblem and the cape attachment slots.

As for Tyler himself, I think he'll make a fine Kal-El.

I wonder how they'll explain the different S designs on Supergirl and Superman. Does the S represent the House of El in this series, or does it mean "Hope," like in the new movies?

It's both in the new movies.

Boy this thread is blowin' up today!!

Cool to finally see a first pic, but I was having the same thought about it being touched up as most everyone. And also that his head looks really big... I wouldn't be surprised if there had been no photo shoot and the whole thing is shopped! Kara's pose is very standard and she's taken pics with that stance before, so I could imagine someone just piecing this together. Maybe because so many people were clamoring for it!

As for the suit, I like it, especially the cape attachments. ( I know most don't like them. But I also wish it had a New52 collar as well...) But I wish Kara had those cape attachments now too. I'd also say lose the belt. It doesn't serve any purpose - or at least make it blend in more.

Size-wise, Tyler Hoechlin is a muscular guy! I'd put the 'off' to bad lighting and stance.

And c'mon, Supes doesn't have to be the tallest man in the room! Give James a little something to help him keep up in this crowd!

And about people not liking the boots, they could have just used the ones from the season finale... So, I think we're good!

Hmm... it would be interesting if they revealed he's had multiple suits.

In the TV series...it is for the House of El, and and the family moto El May Arah! "Stronger Together".

Preach it! Especially Flash out of all of them needs a good revamp. Get rid of that pleather.

It probably won't change any time soon. But the moment they seriously start to think about a Crisis plot and plan to merge worlds, they have to revamp almost all of the CW heroes. We can't have Supergirl and Superman as the only properly dressed Superheroes, and the rest runs around in biker gear.

You would think if it was the El family crest, that it would be one specific style. Superman's S has changed over the years and continues to change, but I would have thought they'd at least settle on one El 'S' for the series. No big deal, though.

Each person who adopts a family Crest is going to render/depict said Crest slightly differently.

Meh, the suit is alright taking into consideration that it's on a TV show's budget for what I presume will be a character that will only occasionally show up in glimpses as opposed to being persistently there throughout the season & any future seasons. I can accept it based on that premise.

The biggest thing I dislike about it is without question the belt, it looks ridiculous. It looks too thick, bulky & because the trunks have gone it just looks purposeless. It looks like a utility belt. Interweaving it with the fabric to an extent the way Cavill's suit is would have went a long way, or just having some sort of design in the fabric as well would have broken the suit up better. Oh.. and it's red.

The boots as well, not a fan of the bulky leather/rubber boots. I much prefer the 'boots' to be like Reeve or Cavill's costume in which it seems more realistic that they could be worn under his disguise.

The fabric looks fine for the most part, similar to MoS/BvS to an extent, but obviously because it's on a TV budget they don't have the money nor time to further add levels of shading or further design to prevent it looking so plain/flat in comparison.

Logo looks excellent, from the picture, although despite it looking excellent, I'd have liked them to have stuck with the cannon of their own show & not made it different to Supergirl's ie having a yellow trim instead of fully yellow.

Cape's attachments are nice as well, although I think because of the fabric it looks kinda plastic like rather than fabric.. at least at the attachment itself.

As for Tyler Hoechlin himself, for a start he needs to shave that 5 o'clock shadow he's got going on & needs to let his hair grow out a bit or at least style it better. We've kinda been spoiled with Cavill's physique/size from the movies & in the comparison pictures Cavill looks like he's got a good 20lbs of muscle on him but admittedly the fabric doesn't do Tyler's physique any favours.

Overall, I'm happy enough. It's not the worst Superman suit I've seen, nor is it the best, but it's recognisable as Superman & given the characters status on this show, I can accept it for what it is.

I'm let down by the photo, but I've been through this process of anticipation to photo reveal to footage reveal enough times in the last nearly 20 years that I get that a first-look photo tells only a fraction of the story. I'm still very, very excited to see Tyler on screen with Melissa & Co.

I wonder if this photo reveal means we'll be seeing set photos of him in costume soon. Tyler said at Comic Con he hadn't tried on the costume yet, so to drop the first photo only a week later says to me they're trying to beat the set spies to the punch.

Same. Very much hate the belt. Suit is actually a really good tv suit. It's just the body in it.

Yeah, the belt is just weird. It looks like a Fitbit for his waist.

You know, for some reason, Superman's belt is one thing NO ONE ever seems to get right. Even the MOS/BvS Superman suits (which I love) still made the belt look a bit strange because it's really just a buckle. The belt on the old Reeve suit was cheap-looking plastic, and Dean Cain's belt looked like one of those weird knit neckties guys wore in the 1980s. Oh, and there was also the SR belt, which looked stupid with that little "S" on it.

Even in the comics, the belt has looked crappy in recent years. The belt on the New 52 suit looked like it belonged on a He-Man action figure. I don't know why DC and WB have been able to make 100 different versions of Batman's belt look cool, but they somehow f*** up Superman's belt at every turn.

Tyler Hoechlin bulked up for his role as an Alpha werewolf in SEASON 2 of Teen Wolf. He lost a lot of weight since then. So don't expect him to be bulkier than in the picture of him as Superman.

Tyler Hoechlin himself looks much much much better than he did in the reveal pic. But I'm really not sold on that belt...
