Uncanny Avengers

Yeah. Remender's Uncanny X-Force was the best X-title since Whedon's Astonishing run fo' sho'.

I'd have to say that UXF was probably the best X-story I've read since I started reading comics
granted, I wasn't alive during Dark Phoenix, but still

I'd certainly say it's up there with AOA, and a smidge ahead of Whedon's Astonishing

hence why, despite it's slow start, I'm confident Remender will nail this out of the park eventually

I'd say Uncanny X-Force is safely better than Whedon's Astonishing. I still think that the Age of Apocalypse is better though. I actually prefer it over Dark Phoenix Saga as well, but I have no nostalgia to go with that as I read it long after it came out.

Age of Apocalypse
Dark Angel Saga
Onslaught

I think those would be my top 3 X-Men stories, but that's just off the top of my head. I'd have to give it serious thought before making it official.

I liked Onslaught too
I think it just gets s**t because other Marvel fans were pissed an X-Men story killed off their faves

I too enjoyed Onslaught. The X-Men line started to go downhill though after it was over. I think Waid abruptly quitting the books might have had something to do with it. He wasn't getting along with Lobdell from what I remember and I think Lobdell had to change a lot of things last minute.

I honestly paid no attention to writers at that time. What did Waid write and how long was he on it?

Event stories like Onslaught are judged beyond just their story content. I thought Onslaught was a pretty solid story taken on its own, but as the culmination to long-brewing plot threads like Bishop's X-Men traitor, the ramifications of Xavier's mind-wipe of Magneto, and a way for Marvel to both set up a massive sales stunt with Heroes Reborn and clean house on a lot of the '90s nonsense that had creeped into their characters' worlds, well, that's a tall order for any story to fill. I can understand why people weren't satisfied with it at the time. But in hindsight--and having just re-read it myself as I was going through all of Thor volume 1--it was mostly good. There were definitely some terrible issues in there, don't get me wrong, but the overarching story--Xavier's fall from grace, the emergence of Onslaught, the heroes' ultimately futile efforts against him, etc.--was pretty good.

The only part I flat-out don't like is that the explanation given for Onslaught is that he's a manifestation of the corruption Xavier took into himself from Magneto by mind-wiping him. That seems to paint Magneto, one of the more rich and complex villains in superhero comics, as too black-and-white to me. Xavier touched his mind and was somehow consumed with the darkness he found there? Come on, Magneto's just a guy doing what he genuinely believes is right, regardless of what others tell him, because he is 100% convinced that his way is the only path to mutantkind's long-term survival--basically the same as Xavier himself. That merely being connected to Magneto's mind for a while somehow tainted the otherwise saintly Xavier is a bit silly. Thankfully, I think at least some of the writers seemed to realize that because there are various hints throughout the event that point to Onslaught being more a manifestation of Xavier's own dark impulses that he scapegoats onto Magneto, when in reality it was his wanton disregard for ethics and morality in wiping Magneto's mind that basically opened the floodgates and allowed all the rest of that darkness within Xavier himself to pour out and, thanks to his powers, gain sentience. But that's just me.

I think it was only a sliver of Mags bad side that "broke off" into Xavier's astral form where his heard would be in his chest. I always looked at it like that was the darkest part of what Magneto had in him. It's been forever since I read it though, it was explained specifically in an issue of Wolverine 10-something...

I think he jumped on X-Men vol 2 right before issue 50. He was only there 6 issues/months and quit right as Onslaught ended.

I fail to see the problem. :p

edit: ok, the "o" face is weird. I didn't notice that earlier. But yeah, Rouge has breasts, like all women. It's not like she wearing a bra or showing massive cleavage in this shot.

Yeah, I was just throwing that out there. The boobs don't bother me any either. The o-face though... that's weird, and I'll never unsee it when I look at the cover.

Am I the only one not looking forward to McNiven? Something about his art has just never clicked with me. It's like all of his faces look like what I imagine Kevin Bacon and Renee Zellweger would look like while sucking on lemons.

He has a tendency to be slow and that's the last thing this book needs right now. Cassaday nearly killed this book because of lateness.

I'm getting caught up with the series, it's good, but the random 90's Narrator boxes that show up on occasion are pretty terrible and pull me out of the story.

So are Thor and Sentry going to finish their fight in this?

Presumably. Things... once again... aren't looking so great for Thor, though. He couldn't even break out of the Sentry's grip in the previous issue.

why once again? And well, the Sentry is amped up right now on a death seed. Thor had some impressive feats in the current run, so the fact that he couldn't break Sentry's grip says a lot. Sick of seeing Thor being Bob's personal punching bag, thought the days of Thor jobbing were over -_-

"Once again" because Thor's basically been everyone's personal punching bag since Siege. He's been trotted out in subsequent events solely to get his ass kicked (AvX--multiple times, in fact) or outright killed (Fear Itself, Age of Ultron--I don't even think we got the courtesy of seeing that one, it was just mentioned as having happened near the start of Ultron's takeover).

And when was the last time the Hulk got treated as a punching bag? Last time I checked... never.

It's frustrating. I got in an argument with a kid I knew about AvX. I was complaining how Thor was being jobbed every issue, and he was sayin "didn't realize everything had to revolve around Thor", "they all had their roles, that was his", I just gave up cause clearly he doesn't read Thor.

And when was the last time the Hulk got treated as a punching bag? Last time I checked... never.

It happens from time to time. Just nowhere near as much as Thor.

didn't WWH get rocked hard by Zeus? Physically. That was a brutal fight. I remember seeing it, and legitimately feeling bad for Hulk, that was a viscous beating he took.

As for the fight against Sentry now, well here is a scan from the upcoming fight I found.
