Uncanny Avengers

One of the main issues I have with more recent Thor comics is how limited his power set appears to have become. He literally just hits people, flies, and shoots lightning at things now. That scene with the Peak I mentioned was dumb to me because back in the day, Thor could've easily wrapped a portal around the Peak and had it drifting off in another dimension safely without much fuss. Instead, he's stuck flinging lightning at it like an idiot before Sunfire incinerates the whole thing. It seems like he was acknowledged as the top powerhouse in Siege by killing the Void, and since then he's been trotted out solely to make other characters look good at his expense.

Yeah, legit. He can't open portals anymore. Haven't seen a Thermo-blast, or an antiforce blast in such a long time.

I love anti-force. It's one of those comic things that make no sense but sound cool. :D

Yeah haha. I think we're overdue for a god blast as well

Absorbing All-Black and turning it on Gorr in the last issue of God of Thunder was awesome in part because it seemed like everyone had forgotten Mjolnir could absorb basically anything. That's why I roll my eyes whenever Silver Surfer fanboys talk about how much more powerful the Surfer is than Thor. Thor, with Mjolnir, has essentially the same energy manipulation capabilities. Not as fine-tuned, granted, but enough to keep him in the fight and essentially cancel out the Surfer's offensive energy abilities.

Dude, that entire page where they showed Thor absorbing the bomb into the two mjolnirs, and how every god that lived through out time prayed to Thor, made me tear up. Easily my favorite Thor moment ever. It's why I am so bitter about the whole Sentry thing. After THAT moment, he fights a, what seems like, losing fight to the sentry, for the sake of displaying Sentry's power.

Yeah, well, welcome to Thor fandom. Do your best to enjoy your stay, no matter how hard Marvel makes it. :oldrazz:

Anyway, we should probably stop hijacking this thread just to whine about Thor. I wonder who the big death will be in UA. I think, given their (relatively) recent returns and upcoming movie appearances, Thor, Cap, Iron Man, and the Scarlet Witch are all pretty safe. I could see Remender killing Havok as a way of further ruining the whole unity idea, since he's basically the only one even working toward that anymore, but I really hope he doesn't. Havok's been cool in this series.

Haha alrighty. I would have to say Thor, Cap, Iron man, and Wanda are safe. Not sure who I think. To be honest, I haven't read a lot of these in great detail. I am on a budget, so every I go to the comic store every wednesday to pick up my subscriptions. The other series I want to follow, I just pull off the shelf, scan through a few pages, put it back, walk around, then get back to it like 5 minutes later, and repeat the process till I finish :P

I do think it is going to be Rogue though, to be honest.. not sure why, it just feels like it to me.

I wouldn't mind if it were Rogue at all. She's been an insufferable *****e in this series.

Wonder Man seems the obvious choice for me. Pacifism until death and then a return to aggression afterwords.

Wolverine
blatantly isn't dead.

Marvel don't have the stones to kill that character off for a few years.

Yeah, I'm not buying it either. It was definitely a fake-out. Let's kill the one character who's[BLACKOUT] power is to heal[/BLACKOUT]!

I really hope that wasn't the death they were hinting at because this (i.e. [BLACKOUT]Wolverine's "death"[/BLACKOUT]) has been done so many times before. :whatever:

Regardless any deaths occuring in this arc could be quickly undone as this is a story that involves heavy time travel.

I'm guessing most writers these days just don't know the full list of Thor's abilities...

no, he survives battle of the atom (as yes, Marvel spoiled)

But it's possible he could eat it in his solo, and if Cornell kills him for any "permanent" stint, I'm done reading comics for a while (except maybe Thor, i can't quit Thor)
won't hurt to have that extra 30-40 bucks a month

Remender's the one who pretty much established that you can't kill anyone with that kind of healing factor unless you drown them back in Uncanny X-Force, so it's pretty obvious to me that this wasn't meant to be a permanent death.

It's nice that Marvel's spoiling their events months in advance now...

I wonder if they keep changing it...? I first heard it was supposed to be in Age of Ultron....never happened and then in Battle of the Atom. I guess that ain't happening either. Maybe Marvel got cold feet at the idea...?

Logan is on the advertisement for "Inhumanity", so that would be a pretty quick turn around if they were going to kill him off this year.

You might be right. I had heard talk of a solicited death in coming issues and thought it was this issue (I stopped reading the solicitations last year when Marvel kept dropping spoilers for issues that hadn't yet been released). Was the "major" death not this issue?

No, it's supposed to be in a couple of issues.

Oh... Okay then. I rescind my comments about this "death" and will wait until the next time Marvel kills a character. My point on character death being a joke in modern comics still stands though. Unless the character is d-list, any killings won't be long term and therefore serve as a cheap publicity stunt or shock tactic.

This is NOT to blame Remender, however. This is an editorial problem not one with the writers (for the most part).
