Uncanny Avengers

A lacklustre opening imho. The art was good but I wasn't engaged by the story at all. Compare and contrast with the last Avengers debut I bought (Breakout - New Avengers) which I absolutely loved. Will stay with it though as I love Cassady's art.

In issue 1, he came on the X-men's front lawn demanding that they hand Hope over and his initial goal was to keep her from bonding with the Phoenix Force bc he thought she'd destroy the earh. Fast forward to issue 12 and Hope bonds with the Phoenix Force saves the earth and restores the X-gene with the aid of Scarlet Witch. Of course this is just the cliffnotes and more went on, but basically the fighting in between could have been avoided had the Avengers not tried to intervene and let Hope do what she was intended
Cap's actions were still pretty understandable. The Phoenix's schtick is destruction, then rebirth, in that order. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy. The Avengers' actions unwittingly put Cyclops in the driver's seat for the destruction part, but I suspect something similar would've happened if Hope had gotten it anyway. Hope almost picked right back up where Cyclops left off when she did get the Phoenix, after all; only Wanda's intervention convinced her to get rid of the Phoenix and restore the normal order.

The fact is the avengers (tony stark) had as much to do with the trainwreck that came about as far as the phoenix is concered. Uncanny avengers is just caps attempt to suck up the the mutant community. I think we all know this concept of mixing the teams should have been done or at least talked about years ago.

Eh, that's not actually the characters' fault, though. I'm just glad they're finally getting around to doing it now, even if it did take Marvel forever and a day.

Cap also threw his shield at Rachel Grey and Polaris. 1 is the most powerful telekinetic on Earth and the other controls metal. Needless to say, they both took him out with his own shield. Hilarious. :woot:

Which is also poor writing because at various points, Magneto has been shown as unable to manipulate Cap's shield. No reason why his weaker daughter should have that ability.

And who doesn't want to say they got whalloped by CA's shield?

Same here... The New Avengers has a very cinematic feel to it, it's definitely one of my favorites.

I was very disappointed in issue #1 of Uncanny Avengers, I expected more of an Assemble like New Avengers had a very big opening, where as this just felt like Issue #0 than a #1..

Moving forward I hope we get a better mix of Avengers and X-Men ... Right now it's only Havok and Rogue.

Bleeding Cool is reporting that Uncanny Avengers #2 has been delayed until the end of November, 7 weeks since the first issue. You know who I blame....?
CASSADAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:argh:

^^^ Yeah well, we all knew it was coming.

But hey, now the people whining about double-shipping books can offset one of their titles! bonus!!

i'm ok with that...means it comes out two days before my birthday...nice lil treat for myself :)

The lateness continues.......

Uncanny Avengers #3 comes out in January, bumped back from December.

UA #4 was supposed to come out at the end of January but now has been backed up to mid-Feb.

They HAVE TO get Cassaday off this book. Who gives a s**t how good his stuff looks, this lateness is gonna kill this book.

I don't get why they don't just have 2 artists on this book and rotate every couple of issues. I think Cassaday's style would work well with someone like Ribic or Pacheco. Books getting massive delays bc of artists seems completely when a simple solution like that could be applied to alleviate the problem

Because Marvel is CHEAP and doesn't want to shell out for two super star artists on one book, which is exactly what they'd be doing by bringing on Pacheco or someone of his ilk

...can Madueira be coaxed back into a regular gig?

I would rather have a good book come out every 6 weeks than a mediocre book come out every 2 weeks. That's why I am confident in Uncanny Avengers, but have decided to stay away from All New X-Men.

I dont know exactly how the economics are behind the scenes but arent the artists paid per issue drawn? If theres 12 issues a year, and assuming the pay is the same, wouldnt they be dishing out the same amount of money to 2 artists drawing 6 issues each as 1 artist doing 12? I guess if Cassaday is only able to complete 5, then they'd only be paying for those 5 issues that were completed, but then they lose 7 that could have been sold for a profit? Seems like the better solution would be to add someone and get as many issues out as they actually intended on

Late books really screw up hte timeline and continuity of everything else, especially for a book that is getting top billing and the flagship title. It happened with AXM and they had to backpeddle and say it operates in its own continuity bc they were holding things back in the other books, bc it was hard to get them to line up. JC had the book delayed 2 months on a regular basis and at least one time, 3. The writing isnt the issue here; its the art, and adding an equally good artist, so the book can come out on time, shouldnt decrease the quality. If anything, I think books with massive delays suffer from losing momentum in what otherwise could have been a great story.

Yeah they should just have 2 artists who cant hold a schedule trade off

Kubert and Cassaday could switch up, their art and their pace is similar enough

Personally not concered if this one is delayed. It's not the first time in the world that a comic has had a delayed release pattern for me, and it's one that I'm not too keen on anyway.

Of course you're not concerned if you're not to keen on it to begin with. Havok83 made a good point though, this book is being touted as the flagship book for the NOW era. If it's going to be constantly late, people aren't going to look at it like one. I'm willing to bet that this is the first and last arc by Cassaday. Remender is a guy that works way too faster than Cassaday is capable of.

^agreed
If Marvel is considering this the flagship book of MarvelNOW, then such delays are unacceptable

I agree in theory, however, what if say, an artist like Cassaday (not saying that he does) works on several issues of the same book all at once, hence causing his delay, due to a lack of focus to just ONE issue....therefore, he has now started work on several issues of the series, for which he will have to be compensated for. Going out and hiring another superstar talent WILL cost the company more because they will have to pay him/her as much as the original artist, if not more, as well as pay the original artist for work already started.

That said, I have no idea how the contracts are made up nor what they actually consist of, but I do see that being a plausible cause as to why they don't bring in a pinch hitter so to speak.

Though it has been done before, right? with Land and Dodson on Uncanny or some X-Men book, I think.

its been done quite a bit. Examples are Bachelo/Bradshaw shared WaTX, Crain/Choi on X-force

Yeah, it's pretty much the norm nowadays. I say give this bad boy to Guissepie Camuncoli. He's can still rotate on Superior Spider-Man and do this book. For the past few years he's been on ASM, Vertigo's Hellblazer and has been doing covers non stop for multiple titles in between. He can handle both UA and SSM. Hellblazer is (sadly) ending with issue 300 - he'll be freed up soon.

Pfft. Captain Britain should be a regular. I like wonder man..don't really care for sunfire so much.
Never really been a rogue fan either.
My x men choices would've been...
Wolverine
Havok
Cable with his TK restored.
I would also love to see night crawler as an avenger. My fave x man!

This line up seem kinda boring really.
But I'll wait to se what it brings...to me avengers is iron man cap and Thor. Would've liked to see hawkeye there too.
