If Bane is in it, he's going to have a bigger part then some cameo.

Agreed. He is the most intelligent Batman villain, brains plus muscles. Theres so much that could be done with him. There could even be a movie dedicated solely to him. His origins issue was a great read

Bane should be one of, if not the biggest of, the two villains should he appear. Small or cameo role wont do him justice, and he deserves that after B&R

After B&R... Bane definitely deserves that.

I just don't think Nolan will use Bane. I'm not sure why I think that, but then again I never pictured Nolan casting Heath Ledger as The Joker, either. The same goes for Aaron Eckhardt playing Harvey Dent/Two Face.

Nolan is the man who could pull off Bane. After all the talk over Black Mask and Hugo Strange lately, I wouldn't be surprised if Nolan catches me totally off guard once again... and Bane ends up the main villain.

If Bane is never done justice on film before i die, Im gonna tell St Peter to hold my spot in line until it happens

I think the great difference between the success of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight lies in the fact that one had a very recognizable, iconic villain and one had unknown villains. After all, TDK"s promo campaign was focused on the villains. So with that in mind I wouldnt expect any obscure villains (and imo, rightfully so - there are some iconic, classic villains that I would love to see back on the screen in new versions)

BB also had the difficult task of reviving the franchise. People were skeptic after B&R and Catwoman.

That's a good point actually. BB layed a nice groundwork just letting people know Batman isnt a Barbie for kids anymore but a dark and serious story again

I've always loved Firefly. He's a great villain, he's realistic and right up Nolan's alley, and he can provide an airborne fight scene like this:

I don't really understand how Bane could be a bit-part. His raison d'etre is as the one man who can destroy Batman. How do you reduce that to a cameo, and have a different villain as the primary threat?

Bane is an intelligent and huge threat to Batman if you read Knightfall; in a way, he was the Hush of his time, stringing many villains into one plot while getting Bats all to himself. If he were to be put into film, he would have to be the main villain. No other option.

This is probably nothing but I thought I'd share it. Someone posted this on the IMDB message boards.

found this from someone and just like to see what you guys think...

"Okay. Let's take you back to 2005. In Batman Begins when Bruce is telling everyone to leave his party he says "and for all you Two-Faced friends" and then there's the obvious joker card at the end. In The Dark Knight Lucius says that his suit "should do fine against cats" also in the robbery scene when joker says "whatever doesn't kill you simply makes you stranger" and the last hint is the prisoner on the ferry's with the tattoo's.

So according to the hints the villains in The Dark Knight Rises should be:

Hugo Strange
Catwoman
Black Mask

If you look at the two films its seems to fit the pattern. One bad guy from the mob, one villain to help Bruce Wayne mature up, another villain for the Batman persona.

Part 1- Carmine Falcone, Rha's al Ghul, Scarecrow.

Part 2- Salvatore Maroni, Two-Face, Joker.

Part 3- Black Mask, Catwoman, Hugo strange."

I watched TDK again and I am not sure what prisoner on the ferry he is referring to. The one who throws the detonator out of the window? He has several tattoos including a gun & some tribal tattoo on his face but I cant see how that should give us a hint for The Black Mask. Maybe I missed something?

Huge prisoner could be bane, of course thats as much a stretch as him hinting at Black Mask

Does anyone think in a major casting twist, we could get the Phantasm as our main villainess?

Weisz or Watts would make a fantastic Andrea Beaumont.

Bane definitely needs a redo after Batman & Robin

Yeah, Bane needs a redemption. Come to think of it so does Mr. Freeze, but he wouldn't work well in the Nolan-verse

IGN comics rated all the Batman villains and listed the following as the top 10.... based on four factors:

  • In Continuity
  • Suffering Caused
  • Threat Level
  • Cool Factor
#1 Joker
#2 Ra's
#3 Catwoman
#4 Two-Face
#5 Bane
#6 Poison Ivy
#7 Scarecrow
#8 Mr. Freeze
#9 Black Mask
#10 Harley Quinn

Question #1...
Do you agree with this list (not necessarily the exact order)? Just curious. Everyone's opinions are different but I'm curious.

Nolan has used 4 of the top 7 listed here, already.

Question #2...
Everyone is talking about Hugo Strange like he is already in TDKR... and Prey is definitely a "basis" for the movie... but I'm wondering if Nolan were to go with say... Bane and Catwoman (does anyone have a good idea or script idea... I'd love to hear it). Perhaps someone can recommend a comic with Bane and Catwoman as the main villains (not that it has to be a basis for TDKR)?

I'm a newbie... new to all of this... so be kind. I'm not too familiar with Bane (but I know enough of how horribly he was represented in Batman and Robin).

The definitive Bane comics are the Knightfall trilogy. He was truly the first villain to completely 'destroy' Batman on every possible level- physically and mentally and it was also Bane's first appearance so it's definitely the place to start.

It's very good despite some wonky coloring.

And I see that Black Mask is number 9. How I would love to have seen this in live action:

Well since The Reaper (Judson Caspian) and his daughter Rachel Caspian are the basis for Phantasm, I'd expect if Nolan were to go with those characters he might call the character Reaper instead.

Thanks, ALP!

I will look into the Knightfall trilogy.

Also... with what you said (quote above)... with Bane being the first villain to completely 'destroy' Batman on very level... that could tie in well with a good Nolan script (from where TDK left off at), not?

Thanks again.

Since Nolan has ruled out Riddler and Zsasz was a cameo villain in BB, I think a good villain would be calendar man. But he would have to be adapted differently of course. He should kill only on certain days at certain times and Batman has to understand his logic and find where he will kill next.

And the name Calendar man sounds bad, change it to "Calendar Killer." That has such a better ring to it.
