Visualizing A Superman Reboot: Pictures Welcome - Part 1

Thanks. I've been meaning to read it. But, I keep hearing mixed things. What's so good/bad about it?

I don't know dude, I really can't specify.
The second I started reading it just felt "off".

It's as if you're reading a story, and you see Supes in the book but it's just a different character altogether.
The storyline obviously means he's not going be the happiest guy but it felt so far from Supes, it never connected with me at all.

I genuinely found myself flyin' through the last dozen pages or so cuz i just wanted to be done with it.
And i LOVE Superman.

Jim's art is wicked as usual though.
I almost bought the Absolute Edition, so glad I didn't lol

Jim Lee's art is fantastic, it's why I bought it in the Absolute Edition lol.

It's a pretty quiet story though, for the most part. Superman spends a lot of time talking about his role in the world with a priest. So it's not your usual action-oriented story. And when it does get to the "action" part of the story it's more strange and still introspective.

I never read beyond the first issue. The story was just meh and wasnt interesting enough to make me want to read the other ones.

I really like Jim Lee but I also started reading it at Barnes and Noble and the writing was somewhat of a misfire at times.

But the art is pretty incredible. I'm a total sucker for Jim Lee art though, so there's that.

If we do see the Arctic crystal fortress again, the main thing is that the interior should be different. It shouldn't just be the minimal we've seen in the older movies. As said, we should see it as more intricate and filled with a lot of those classic Superman elements.

With stuff like this (but updated of course):

Yea same, he's my personal favourite.
My first graphic novel was Joker and I didn't think much of it, Azzarello wrote that too.
So seeing as "For Tomorrow" was so disappointing, I don't think I'll be buying anymore of his work, even if it does have the genius of Jim Lee in it.

I wish jim lee would do art again. He's one of DC's greatest assets, and he's busy doing executive crap.

Have to agree, even though I do like the story and ended up buying the story in two volumes. It took a couple of readings to get what was being said. Jim Lee's art made it worth reading though.

But hopefully he'll get another Superman book to illustrate with a better writer. Same with Ivan Reis. His artwork was wasted on Chuck Austen's Action Comics run.

For a while now i have had this idea that Zod and Foraraoao would be a lot bigger in height than Superman... almost like Xerxes in 300.

Then the idea went on to Superman being considered small for a Kryptonian... something Zod would find humor in.

That's interesting, but there's nothing to say Kal is any sort of Kryptonian runt. I don't see any reason why story wise it would be smarter to make him smaller, it almost diminishes him in a way.

Well its not as if we will ever see him on Krypton. And its not really suppose to be a massive plot point its just a little detail. Im not saying he would be considered a one of a kind midget on Krypton but he wouldnt be the tallest around. It just adds a little more to Kryptonians actually being aliens.

As I said, it's an interesting take, but I don't see it working myself. He's the one who grew up with godlike powers, they on Krypton grew up as normal beings. He's the one who spent his entire life in battle pushing himself every day, while one can assume that most Kryptonians like most humans have pretty mundane lives ... aside from Zod who is a military man.

They have played with the size thing before, like in the animated New Frontier with WW being bigger.

Wouldnt it be more interesting to build upon an idea instead of just breaking it down?

Im not having a go, honest.. its just i sit here on this site and often see people come up with concepts and ideas (written or drawn) and they get dismissed so quickly and easily

I want to come on this site and enjoy sharing ideas with other Superman fans that i think would be open minded and willing to at least think about the idea.. its not as if its actually going apply to the film..

Im sure i sound like im whinging because you didnt jump up and down about my idea but its been on my mind for a long while now. Rant End...sorry :P

The idea really has nothing to do with how much one pushes them self to get to the size.. its would be more of a genetic thing.. Just like how on earth people are just born taller or smaller than others.. the idea is that on Krypton its a lot more exagerated and alien. know what i mean?

well, if you look at it logically, if Zod is that much bigger than Superman then Faora would probably have to be just as big, if not bigger, than Superman which would be kind of weird. also Krypton was surviving on a dying sun, which is why they didn't have powers on their planet. Superman, on the other hand, was able to soak in rays of a strong sun his ENTIRE life, so if anything Superman should be portrayed to be bigger than Zod. if we're talking genetics, then Superman would simply be around the same size as Zod since they're both Kryptonian. being raised in a different environment doesn't change your genetics. also, if you look at it practically, it's a lot of special effects involved with even just the basic actions (such as a handshake).

it's an INTERESTING idea and if you're going for a more stylized comic movie (ala 300) then it COULD work...but it's just not something that would fit for what they want to achieve for this movie.

as far as dismissing ideas quickly, that's just part of the boards. if you're gonna throw an idea or image out there, it's GONNA get judged quickly. the ideas and images that stick around the longest are the more logical and well thought out ones that appeal to more than just a few people.

I hear what you are saying man, but I don't see it working considering Zack is going for a realistic approach. If it's a genetic thing as you say then why would his size differ that greatly from any other Kryptonian? They are genetically all Kryptonians after all.

And no, I'm not breaking down or berating you and your idea as you were hinting at in your previous entry. Just the way I see it. If Zack makes them bigger then fine, it's his film and his call, but I personally don't see a reason story wise for it.

Mm i feel im not explaining the idea proper. Maybe its because its nearly 4am here.

( I actually am rooting for a stylised comic book Superman film)

Basically the idea would work just like how Xerses is much taller than Leonidas. Both of them grew up on earth but no matter how much one tried Xerxes is always going to be taller than Leo. Like Superman if Leo was sent to another planet at birth and gained powers i dont think it would make him grow any taller right?... because i dont think everyone on Krypton are elves..

SO if Xerxes then travells to Leos new planet..he still will be much taller than him.. So now if you imagine that Krypton was actually inhabited by a lot of Abnormaly large sized peolpe aswell as earth sized people.. thats how my idea is being thought about.

Im not here for the competition of having brilliant ideas.. im here because there is a collective superman fanbase here that are quite creative and it would be fun to see ideas from all fans being worked on and tweaked to try create something fresh.

I hope im not coming across as hostile.. believe me i couldnt be any more relaxed.

I hope we get to see (or start to see) the different aspects of Metropolis. I like how in the DCUO we see some of that. In these preview videos they toured through Metropolis and I would like to see some of this in the movie:

In the Tomorrow District we got to see stuff like S.T.A.R. Labs and the Science Spire:

But we also saw the Suicide Slums, the poorer area, with the Steelworks and The Ace of Clubs:

EDIT: Little Bohemia:
