Your kidding right? This film was beyond camp, and for that matter 04 and 89 version as well. I read the script before and even if the actors involveed were decent enough to sell it, the movie still had major flaws. All films tried hard to be something they are not. Warzone 89, 04 are just insults by filmmakeers to comic fans. I don't even know where to begin about Warzone, the actors SUCKED!!!! Colin trying to hide his heavy british accent made me crack up when he called everyone in the police office "krispy Kreme Mother****ers" and Stevenson trying hard to be more like John Wayne playing Frank, it was pathetic. You could tell all the actors new that this film was a **** pile, they were only there for the checks. And don't getme started on that beginning scene where he kills Cesare. That was so frikin STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's like I said earlier, that Zoolander **** will not fly on a Punisher film!! they never frikin get it right!! It's so easy my 8 year old nephew could have written a better treatment!!! No, Im not trying to have everything crammed in an hour and 30 minutes, there are several good films out there that managed to fit all the peices in. This movie was a joke, insight on what Lionsgate really thinks of you as, a giant stupid cash cow!

I'm truly sorry you feel that way. I loved it for what it's worth.

I love the '89 & '04 versions as well.

But the guys that didnt like it are so much louder then everyone else :word: Everybody likes what they like

DFT, heres my point.. so far most non fans of the punisher liked PWZ. The poll even in here has a higher like then dislike.

The movie was good. Ray does great as the Punisher. PWZ gives the story of why he is the way he is. PWZ gave the feeling that if Frank is in the room with criminals they were gonna die. PWZ showed he is a man that feels and thinks. PWZ showed him having a conscious about taking out the wrong guy, giving money to the little girl, helping them out. PWZ had awesome gun and fight scenes. Showed Frank not letting others follow his path, showed his will to keep going for more.

Guys like you want everything and for 1 1/2 hours I thought it was a good paced ride for a theatrical movie. As I said sorry you didnt like it and thats fine. But all I have heard from guys that didnt like it is that its as bad a movie that can be made ....I know thats BS.... Its the kinda critic that wants a PS3 for Christmas, opens his present, gets it, but then throws a fit because he didnt get 3 games with it.

I don't want everything, i wanted them to do a serious take on the character which had a decent script and resembled the character somewhat... Stevenson's just playing the archetypal bad mutha*****a with the 100 yard stare. It really isn't more than that - the instant he tries to act, he just falls flat on his face.

I had serious doubts when they announced who was playing because immediately it was "who?" And that's from someone who watched Rome in its entirety.

Then when I realised how inexperienced Lexi was and heard her talking about the film and how action packed it was, i knew we were doomed. It's just such a cop out.

I take your point about the poll, but let's be fair: it's a Punisher fan forum. We're not exactly playing to a roomful of cynics. It hurts me to say this is bad film, but I see it as my responsibility to point out not only how dreadful this movie is, I want to make sure this creative team never get another chance to ruin it further.

As it looks right now, they have killed any potential franchise for at least five years. All we can hope for is that the rights lapse, Marvel take it back and, in the meantime, the MAX series continues to publish stories by fabulous crime writers and a film-maker somewhere gets the bug for it. or someone who grew up with the character and wants to translate it makes the effort.

Look, marketing killed the movie and I take your point about the fan forum poll. My personal experince from talking to non fans is they have liked it......But lets get one thing straight, most non fans thought this was a sequel with no Jane after a fanbase was built on the 04 DVD. It was a little hexed off the bat because of that. PWZ, It will do great on DVD. I certainly dont think this movie did bad at the Box Office for lack of a good movie.

Good point. I thought Ghost Rider was borderline decent (i'm talking skimming the tight rope), but the day the movie came out, this site was drooling with praise & "I loved it".
At least PWZ was a better movie (flame suit on).

the movie may not be all that great, but considering all the crap that makes money these days, war zone really doesn't deserve to be this much of a failure at the box office.

Agreed. It's a damn shame when movies like Date Movie/Epic Movie/Meet The Spartans make as much as they did. This movie was so much better than those POS.

I broadly agree. Those movies are the curse of the film industry. Dirt cheap to make, quick to film and generally profitable.

But, if this movie had been a success, the critical slating would effectively end any chance of a decent creative team making another film. Look at the damage losing Thomas Jane wrought on War Zone. All of a sudden you had a woman action director who wasn't called Kathryn Bigelow. What were they thinking?

A direct-to-DVD sequel maybe. If that's where the audience is for this movie, I don't think Lionsgate would want to waste money going theatrical.

I agree, there's no way we'll see another Punisher film in theaters even if Marvel gets the rights back. A direct to dvd is also unlikely, sad but true. A cameo in another Marvel movie would be cool, and slightly possible now that it looks like the rights will go back to Marvel.

The movie actually put me in a bad mood. I loved the '04 one because they were able to find a balance in the violence and the human sides of it. PWZ was a C-level snuff film with terrible special effects and a miserable script. I do agree that Stevenson wasn't bad as Castle, but I think Jane wouldve been better as people at least kinda know who he is. On a final rant, I hate it, and I mean hate it, when people break other peoples necks with their bare hands by twisting the head. THE HUMAN NECK IS NOT THAT FRAGILE. Im an MMA fighter and have been into martial arts since I was little, you can't break a person's neck like that and the fact that PWZ was filled with that admittedly, put a bad taste in my mouth early on. Still though, Punisher will probably not be in theaters again for 20 years.

So?? It's a movie...and a million movies have done this before it...your point?

I think I agree. Not that he is a big name, but had Jane stuck around for the sequel, I think it would have given the movie more heat to get a better product cranked out. I thought Stevenson was a better embodiment of Frank Castle, but I think if this had been more of a sequel, the overall quality would have been much better. As is, this is a very poor quality film.

I haven't taken the time to read all the posts in this thread, nor will I. I will just say that I understand some of you like it and some of you don't. Personally I could give a **** if you don't like it, I sure had a great time!

That is all...

there's an argument for this film being enjoyable if that's your thing - I like the 2004 Punisher and critical consensus says it's gak.

The problem is that they have completed alienated any potential cult audience by aiming so low down the intellectual spectrum.

I know its a movie. I just dont like it in the Punisher, or when any other non-superpowered person does it. I said that for the sake of making the point that my views on the movie may be a little biased because seeing it in the first 10 minutes of the movie put a bad taste in my mouth. Its the same thing as when people complained about the Daredevil movie having Daredevil jump from a rooftop and not snap his legs.

My hang up's on Daredevil always come back to that stupid all leather costume that would have anyone pass out from heat stroke after running a 1/4 mile. But the jumping around like Spider-man kinda gets silly too.

The neck snapping thing is incredibly overused. You ever see that Will Sasso as Steven Segal on Madtv episode? I'm sure you will get a laugh out of it.

I thought the 04 was more of "the avenger" type story, I never got the sense in Franks persona (04 version) that he was out to get all criminals . PWZ was the story I wanted. But I liked both

I dont get it at all. This is hands down the best Punisher movie so far.

Just get the Blu-ray DVD out asap. I want my violence extra slow and extra satisfying.

Why are these ****ers wasting their time on forums being negative about the movie? Instead of Frank punisher criminals he should target whiny over opinionated fanboys. I am sure that would be a hit.

^ But now you are whining about the whiners.

You've become the very thing you're whining about.

Maybe people are whining because they aren't fairweather fans and are genuinely wanting more than a stupid, sub-c quality movie with next to no plot and some of the worst acting this decade.

a ton of people i know in college didnt even know it was out or are just waiting for it to come out on DVD...

I still think there is a chance to see more Punisher after PWZ DVD comes out on the big screen.

I still think that some fans are insane if they expect another Punisher movie in theaters any time soon.

I just wasn't willing to say I liked something I did not like. I'm not whining, I'm just pi$$ed that Punisher fans are 0/3 now as far as getting a decent adaption of the character. Calling people who didn't just blindly rave about this new film "fairweather fans" is pretty ignorent and simplistic in it's own right. You don't hear people who didn't like it questioning the people who did about their own fandom in regards to the character. Hell, and given the discussion of wasted characters like Pittsy, Ink, McGinty, Looney Bin Jim, and the discussion anout the uber-violence masking huge flaws in the narritive it's gotten close already to that type of discussion in a couple threads.

We all like the Punisher here, for the most part ( but honestly I've seen a couple people just coming here to cheer about it's failure though). It's just some of us feel jipped that we got the best guy playing the Punisher yet, but everything else was as bad as skull daggers, sewer bike rides, sunny Tampa leather trenchcoat sunsets, John Travolta's wig gnawing on sets, Obnoxious neighbors and Un-mouse-ish Joans.

Nivek, you entirely misread what I wrote. I was responding to NEONNINJA's post:

"Why are these ****ers wasting their time on forums being negative about the movie? Instead of Frank punisher criminals he should target whiny over opinionated fanboys. I am sure that would be a hit."

I did not call anyone a fairweather fan, i was stating that just because you have a critical opinion of the film does not mean you don't like the character. Don't presume to call me ignorant - I've not insulted anyone personally for their opinion or their comments.

Make sure you understand the context of a comment before leaping into to snarl, thanks.
