It felt a little like the humor of Disney’s Pirates of the Carribbean films. Fans of Ritchie might be interested to know that the director’s stylish cinematography was definitely intact. During a sequence showing the barenuckle pitfight, Holmes’ punches are executed in a slow motion style reminiscent of the video game Fight Night. And while the film isn’t set in modern day, the trailer had a very contemporary in-you-face edit.

Having read the scenes described so far (including the interview at AICN) and reading the 1st draft, it looks like the majority of it is intact, though there may be some changes (hopefully).

The script is pretty cool - a fun, action adventure that literally hits the ground running from page 1 (No set-up scene or title card here, or waiting 30 minutes to see the title character). The only problem I had is the less than interesting villain (not enough characterisation to make a well rounded character, though he does have a 'grand plan' - Ah, it's been a while since we've had a true old fashioned villain!). The REAL focus on the script is Holmes and Watson's relationship, and their need for each other's friendship (Watson wants an ordinary life, Holmes cannot stand the concept). On top of that, London is the biggest character in the script, much like Gotham City was in Tim Burton's Batman.

In Guy Richie's hand, the London 'underground' setting and male dominated script is perfect. There's also a sequel set-up (Doubt they'll keep it. It's the least interesting part of the script).

Sounds like a much more improvement over the script I read (which was still great) and that bed scene with him beeing tied was in the script, but not the maid part.

I kinda like the idea of this being in the same vein of Snatch. Containing some comedy elements but not really a full comedy if you will. We seriously need the trailer.

I always thought it was such a huge missed opportunity, that Sherlock Holmes is supposed to be a great fencer, and they got Basil Rathbone, one of the most legendary swordsmen of the silver screen, and never took advantage of that situation.

Heh, you're right about that. I was honestly never a fan of the Rathbone films. It wasn't Rathbone himself... he WAS Sherlock Holmes... I just always found the movies kind of lacking. But I guess for their time, they were decent.

Hello to you all. This is my first post, though I have been lurking the board for years.

I`ve also been following the deveopment of this movie for a while now and I have a few thoughts.

I am not really thrilled with the choice of RDJ for Sherlock Holmes. I think he will put a good take on the character, but he is absolutely not who I would cast. Holmes was described as being 6 foot 2 and so thin that he appeared even taller. I also don`t think RDJ personality is quite right either.

I have a few suggestions for Sherlock that I am going to throw out there just for the fun of it.

First, and this is sort of out of left field, I would like to see Crispin Glover in the role of Holmes. To me, he has the look and is eccentric enough. With a good director to reign him in a little, I think he could be very good.

Someone mentioned Adrien Brody earlier, and I could see him being rather effective.

Does anyone think Kyle MacLachlan would be a good choice? I think he could do it, but he`s a little old. He`s 50 (I didn`t realize he was that old, man does time fly) but he looks younger.

Johnny Depp would be pretty good, too. He`s already done several roles that were similar to Holmes, most notably in ``Sleepy Hollow``. I have a few problems with him, mainly that he`s almost too obvious, but I have to admit that he would be a good Holmes.

Being that as it may, we got RDJ, and I`m looking forward to this movie. Holmes has been one of my favorite characters since I was a boy, almost to the point of obsession at times. And I have to agree with those of you who liked ``Young Sherlock Holmes``.
