Problem was with the hound of the baskervilles its more of a watson story than a Holmes, thats why i think Roxburgh could expand on giving a story more attuned to Holmes than Watson.

It really depends on the the route they go for.

I would personally love to see a mystery/thriller type movie, showing the workings of Holmes' brain. They seem to be showing a more physical side of Holmes in this movie. Yes he's proficient in boxing and fencing, but he's not able to take on several people at once, as seen in 'The Grinning Man'.

So depending on what side of Holmes they are looking at, depends on the actor I suppose.

When watching the BBC's version of 'Hound Of The Baskervilles', even though Richard E Grant was playing Stapleton, I really saw him as Holmes.

That's exactly how i felt watching that version,i liked Rupert Everett in the role personally of the newer Homes'

I could see Jonathon Rhys Meyers in this if they go a slightly younger route

Warner Bros. Pictures is teaming with producer Lionel Wigram to adapt Wigram's upcoming comic book Sherlock Holmes for the big screen. Neil Marshall (The Descent) will direct, while screenwriter Michael Johnson penned the script for the action-adventure.

"Sherlock" is expected to be Marshall's next directing project, as the studio is eager to push ahead, says Variety. Helmer is currently filming Doomsday for Rogue Pictures.

The trade says the exact storyline is being kept under wraps, but creative executives at Warners say they are looking for the "Sherlock" team to reinvent the sleuth and his loyal No. 2 Dr. Watson in much the same edgy way that Christopher Nolan has reimagined Batman for the studio.

Wigram's vision has Holmes losing some of his Victorian stuffiness and being more adventuresome, including playing up his skills as a bare-knuckle boxer and expert swordsman as he goes about solving crimes.

I like this idea. I was thinking it'd be amazing to see a Sherlock Homes movie. Hope this turns out to be good.

I have not seen the Rupert Everett version, only the Roxburgh version. I did hear slightly negative reviews towards the Everett portrayed Homes though.

To be honest, I want to see the archetypal version of Holmes. The one from the books ideally. I don't mind them playing up his adventurous side, his skills in boxing and fencing, that's all fine. But I do want them to keep to within his age frame, his demeanour, his characteristics etc. So, Meyers may do a great job, but I would prefer someone who fits within those boundaries.

Holmes is by far one of the greatest fictionalised characters in all of literature. I really see no need in tweaking things too much.

Although, they may go with a slightly younger version of Holmes to fit in with today's more accessable movie market. If that is the case, then I wouldn't mind someone like Meyers in the role.

I do have a preference though.

If Adrian Brody could do a decent british brogue, I'd be down. Don't sit there and tell me he doesn't look the character, with his Ichabod Crane ass. Brits have been playing our cherished pop culture characters for years, so why not vice versa?

Whatever happened to this movie? How did Marshall go from Sherlock to Doomsday?

You all have it wrong. This is the ultimate interpetation of Holmes:

:hehe:

Seriously, I could see myself giving it a shot. I wonder what happened to it, though.

I'm honestly happy this didnt get made. Hopefully it's been totally scrapped. I've been reading the books, and turning Holmes into an adventurer is a total bastardization of the character. Why not make a movie about Captain Nemo where he's a pious christian who doesnt believe in science? That's essentially what they were doing here.

I'd love to see a more straight adaptations of the books though, with the element of Holmes being a junkie when not on a case finally shown on screen.

The Rupert Everett Sherlock Holmes was a junkie

So he's going to have adventures, but he's not allowed to be an adventurer? I just don't really have an issue with that, if it's done well. Sherlock Holmes is a fantastic character.

There is only 3 people worthy to play Sherlock Holms in my book. Ewan McGregor, Pierce Brosnan or Liam Neeson.

I'd rather see a series or Sinbad movies movies but they should do Holms v/s Moirarty desent film for the new age of movies.
Robbie Coltrane should be Watson or maybe Mark Addy.

Wasn't he supposed to do this after Doomsday? But now he's doing that horror western.

Rumours and lies I say, RUMOURS AND LIES :cmad:

I would like McGregor, but I think he may be a little to "movie starish" for the part. In my minds eye I've always seen Holmes as wirey and craggy, more of a Hugh Laurie as Dr. House type.

Very mixed feelings about this. Ritchie is pretty damn inconsistent....actually, besides LS&2SB, and Snatch, his resume is pretty much a pile of ****. If he casts Tim Roth as Holmes, then I'll start to feel much more optimistic.

According to that article, WB is very satisfied with Rock'n'Rolla. Which, of course, is an excellent thing.

I hope so, because Revolver and Swept Away were pure horse****. Hell, I didn't even care for Snatch that much.

Snatch was great. one of the more quoteable movies out there.

As Ian Malcolm would say, "Er....Tim Roth? Roth?"
