Superman Returns Was it really THAT bad?

That's why I don't anymore but lol at the "If you don't like it" comment being used to defend people bashing a movie they saw once 15 months ago.

Well the thread topic asks "Was it really THAT bad?" What did you think people would discuss in here?

Brandon Routh and about 5 scenes in the whole movie are good.

I agree with Buggs. Superman 4 had a GREAT CONCEPT. Imagine if it was taken as seriously as Superman Peace on Earth?

The movie sucks but the worse thing of SR is that it tried to be a classic and was filmed like a classic and its just a piece of **** movie.

The franchise is dead because of Singer. I dont how people are still wanting him to come back. Superman was supposed to be huge and its now gone faster than a speeding bullet.

I pray to god Justice League is going to make things good again...WE`ll see..

Yep. If people hate it, why are they still posting on a thread about a movie they hate? I think they really like it & are in denial they do. If one hate the movie, why hang out here?. I hated X3 & Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer with a passion. Do anyone see me hang around the forums there & complain about how much I hate those 2? Nooooo.

I'm sure in the Spiderman 3 forum there's lots of threads about the movie. Asking if you liked it, what part did you dislike it etc etc.

Now I thought Spiderman 3 was one of the worst superhero movies ever made, but you won't see me in that forum complaining after six months. I hated the flick, went to that forum to complain in rough terms about it for good 2 weeks and put it healthily in the past.

Coincidentally, I have far better things to do in my life than to hate. Specially after they said SR sequel might not happen.

Now the thing with Superman Returns was people had waited so long for a Superman movie. After Spider-Man 1 and the Matrix Revolutions was released people had wondered how will a Superman movie look with all modern effects.
I remember seeing the Neo fight scene and saying that would be amazing if that was Superman.

So anyway I remember the teaser for SR and I was like this movie might be good. Then we got the trailers and then I was like emmm.. it still might be good even without a good villain and with the kid. So when I finally watched the movie in the Cinema. I was very disappointed, nothing in the movie got me interested or excited one bit, it just felt dull. The movie has many reasons as to why it was a disappointed, which has already been pointed out by others time and time again.

Do I think SR was terrible? and in the same league as Batman & Robin and Superman 4? To ME yes.

Oh stop it, Routh's performance and the effects put it miles ahead of Batman and Robin and Superman 4, that was so bad Chris Reeve himself never even saw it by his own admission.

Superman 4 had heart the first half of the movie but once Nuclear Man showed up everything went out the window and the movie fell to pieces. SR while i did not love it, had a decent story, great effects and Routh did a great job as Superman, he was the best thing about SR to me.

That is why i think MOS needs to get made. Routh will do another great job as Superman and with a supervillain and a faster paced film, it is almost a given that it will be better than SR was.

FF2 is light years better than SR. It's no contest. FF2 is actually fun to watch and entertaining. SS is cooler than ANYTHING in SR effects and WOW-wise.

SR was just boring AND wrong.

With films like FF, X-Men, Spider-Man 3 that some people don't like it's just the film, not the world that's been created and there is nothing that would potentially hinder a sequel.

With SR, the things people don't like are the the things that make the SR-verse world unique. Superman's a jerk, the kid, landscheme Lex, etc... THese things will hold back a potential sequel from being great. WHat SInger set up people don't want to see and it is necessarily tied to a direct sequel to SR. So, that's why those that 'hate' SR hang around. If the next Superman film is a direct sequel that deals with those topics, then we won't be involved with it. It's about the future. That's why it's different from the other films you mentioned. It boils down to being wrong not just bad.

Other might view those films as bad, but the haters of SR see it as bad AND wrong.

Because the WB reads the boards and we are trying to get the word out on how much the film sucks. Obviously they have gotten the word, and they know that the bulk of Superman fans hated the film. They do read these boards. And the fact is, I still think Singer is going to leave and we will get a reboot.

Actually if you look at the threads in which people were asked to vote out of ten the majority gave it an OK score. Then again never let facts get in the way of a good moan.

You have got to be kidding Buggs, the majority of action scene's in FF2 were poor and had absolutely NO tension whatsoever (the only exception was when SS confronted Galactus, which is by far the best scene in the movie)

In SR, the Plane Rescue, beating on NK, and lifting of NK all had more tension than both FF movies put together.

As for SR, i still think it is the top 5 best comic book movies ever, i never get bored of it and think its fantastic.
