Superman Returns Way to much looks to have been cut from the movie!!!

wow what a worthless thread...this is as bad as any post I've seen on the IMDb boards....Dude, Niate calm down...you do know its a continuation of a movie that already estabalished an very long opening/introduction...to spend anymore time on it would cause people to lose interest or fall asleep. This movie is 2 and half hours long...thats already a bit of risk but its still more than most superhero movies get...Singer will not let his footage get lost in the archives...expect everything on the DVD.

Wasn´t this that you guys wanted?

Whoa. What "YOU GUYS" are you talking about. There's Nate having a conniption, and there's the rest of us going "calm down."

there's no you guys involved. there's Nate. Who has learned a valuable lesson, which is that he is not the kind of person who should have information on a movie before he sees it, because he takes that info and does the exact wrong thing with it: He does not recognize that filmmaking is fluid, and so he thinks everything he's heard SHOULD be in the movie, regardless of what it does to pacing, tone, length, and whether the takes and production of those scenes were even GOOD or not. And when scenes get removed, as they have to be, he freaks out because he got so attached to the spoilers he never considered that they'd go and now his whole world is crumbling around him, disappearing like tears in rain, Roy Batty.

Most everyone here seems cool with these things being deleted scenes for the sake of the movie getting to where it needs to go. Nate is the one tripping. There's no "YOU GUYS" involved here.

Well, at least it's WB, and WB DOES allow its directors to release director's cuts (remember The Exorcist?).

So, I'm pretty sure we'll get the 2-Disc SE, the 3-Disc Deluxe Edition Superman Returns 1.5, the 4-Disc Mega Dippin', For-Rich-Only, Supa-Dupa-Edition with Brandon's signed bust and Luthor's exclusive action figure with Kryptonite stabbing action...

i think its okay we superman in under half an hour because i know alot of people who complained that it took to long for hulk to come on screen in his movie

That's the problem with spoilers just look at any DVD movies are cut down all the time.
A scene might be really good but if it ruins the flow it goes simple.
I will make my own mind up when I get a chance to see the movie.

Naite is a perfect example why distance and rationality need to be at the forefront of anyone seeking spoilers. So much can change from the script stage to production to the final product that it is a fruitless endeavor to become attached to specific scenes. As with everything, the only thing that really matters is the finished product.

And Naite, if you think you're disappointed, imagine the screenwriters who wrote those scenes. Imagine the actors who acted them out. Imagine the guys who worked on the visual effects for them. But they all get over it. Things are cut from movies time and time again especially if they don't necessarily mesh with the final product. They've learned to accept that fact. You should too.

I'm going to spring for that one:)

You guys are beeing so sweet... Why all the bashing?? Honnestly, I though that I made a good point, and the last thing I wanna do is make useless threads... But there are many things that have been cut from the Kent Farm... In less then 10 minutes, Clark is back in Metropolis???

EVERYONE, over at bluetights.com, giving their fan reviews, are saying that it moves along to quickly in the begining, and that the pacing is a bit off.. This just worries me, what is all of yours problems with me beeing concerned about that???

I think you're going to see the pacing being off whether it is for you or not because you're taking truckloads of dashed hopes in with you because you adhered so tightly to the spoilers that it's going to negatively affect your opinion of the movie due to stuff being cut that you wouldn't have ever FELT being cut had you not spoiled yourself.

Know what I mean there? That's a horrible run-on sentence I wrote, but I don't wanna go back and fix it. Basically, Had you not made it concrete in your mind that the movie was going to play out a certain way in your head, this wouldn't really be a problem for you. You're just, (and unfortunately it seems you found out a little late) the kind of person who isn't really BUILT for spoilers, or at least seriously in-depth ones.

It's not bashing, it's just you didn't take the spoilers with a grain of salt, you took them at their word, essentially, and now you feel lied to, when it's not like that at all.

Naite22 I have lost all respect for you.
I'm sorry, I didn't realize you ever had any!?? And why is it lost, because I worry about this??? I was seeking some sort of comfort from people who had actually seen this film, to tell me that all of the reviewers mentioning the pacing is off in the begining, is really not that bad... yet now, more than a few has mentioned that it does move along very quickly, and that the pacing is off.. Tell me, how is the "respect" lost there?? What did I actually do?

Well, the first thing he says to Martha in their conversation in the morning is "Don't worry mom, I burried it". See? Just 3 seconds and you CAN IMAGINE Clark working on it. It is much better than showing a guy digging around the ship with a shovel for 10 minutes... ;)
That's ALL I wanted to hear!!! Incredible that it took so long to tell me that.. So Clark DOES mention that he burried the thing. GOOD! Because if they had just left it entirely out, it WOULD leave a huge question mark.. I mean just what the hell did he do with that huge spacecraft landing out there in the field! But if he does mention that he got rid of it, I'm ok with it.

AsteroidMan! Some mentioned that the scene with young Clark jumping around and learning how to fly, looked a bit weird... In YOUR opinion, how does it look??? I was just wondering how it could look weird, when it's done on wires??

PS: Please dont tell me that it looks like Peter jumping on the roof, like seen in spider-man 1!!???

I wrote that...maybe someonelse noticed too
anyway my girlfriend saw it at a special screening for military families in support of our troops, presented by Routh and his family with Q&A by him too...anyway she said that...and then she told me later what she meant was not when he was jumping around like we see in the preview...but right before he crashes through the roof of the barn it looked awkward cuz he loses his balance and starts to tumble a little...she said that was one of the only times in the movie that the special effects didn't look right...they nailed everything else in the movie...but maybe should have tweaked or tried a few more things with that one scene.

btw things could be worse...we could be getting a 2hr Superman Returns but we're not...we're getting 2and a half hours...any longer and it could hurt its boxoffice potential...the studios don't want to sacrifice that for a tailor made opus for fans...whose to say some of the footage shot and cut from this film won't be used in Bryan's planned sequels...or atleast the DVD. Even if by some chance this movie bombs...I'm pretty sure we'll still get everything we want from a DVD release...its a win win situation.

Seriosuly, it would be EASY for Bryan and the crew to make an extended verison of superman returns, when it hits on dvd (most likely in December!)... They already have all of the footage, how hard can it be... seriously, edit in all of that good stuff that's happening on the farm, which has been cut out of the theatrical release, and put it in for the dvd edition:) a lot of great stuff has been cut...

^ You've lost respect for me, because I expressed my worries... you guys are the **** heads here, not me.
You guys are really beeing idiot's right now!!!!!!!! If someone's overeacting over this, it's you guys... and obviously, a lot over at blue tights feel the same way I feel... There's like a 100 threads on these boards that makes absolutely NO sense, so lose your respect for that ****..

Here's a short paragraph, that I took out from someone's over-all experience of the premier that she went on with her boyfriend.. It's all posted at blue tights, but here's the paragraph that I wanted to show you guys:

The last half an hour of the movie was completely unexpected. I liked it but wasn't sure how I felt about it. A big part of me felt like I would rather have had the ending cut shorter, so there was more story at the beginning of the movie, about Superman feeling obsolete. That's what I would have enjoyed, but Jim loved it the way it was. There was one scene at the end of the movie, that I don't want to talk about because it is way too spoilerish.. but it is an incredibly touching, moving scene. The dialogue, the acting, and the music, were just superb. It had me almost tearing up.

Another one mentioning that she also wanted to see more of supes feeling lost at the begining of the film... in other words, more farm stuff. more and more are talking about this, so dont tell me that all repsect is lost, when the only thing I'm doing is pointing out the fact there MUST be something about this.

because everybody else realizes that the scenes are not erased from existance. They will probably be on the DVD with commentaries to boot. :)

I really hope they're in a Director's Cut, not as a separate entity on the deleted scenes section. :(

Another one on bluetights.com has this to say:

Then, once we're past the opening credits and the story begins, I found it surprisingly fast. The movie simply takes off after that, and I wasn't quite sure what to make of it. Things felt a little too rushed at points, and aspects of the story I assumed would be dwelled upon were shorter than I expected. Kal-El returns to Earth, and before you know it we're back in Metropolis.

Here he makes it sound like the story is rushed at points in the film... so this means not only in the begining, or what??

Naite, youre acting like a Spaz.

Relax and see the film first before embarassing yourself further.

^All right.... But I have to wait til August 4'th to see this movie, while most of you guys gets to see it tomorrow... so I'm hoping to hear good good good things about this flick in the next coming days.
