ANY NEWS IN REGARDS OF WHO THE WRITERS BE?

There was a consensus among some of the people I know, (webmasters, writers, other industry professionals) that there were some heavy talks (possibly an accepted pitch) with a writing team or one of the writers from this usual tandem. Now it seems that there are more pitches to be made. :cwink:

What I pointed to above plus the 17 - 25 Million for TV Rights (FX) eventually helped with profit, although it wasn't as it should have been obviously.

So this means that WB is really close to finding a story they like for the sequel, if they haven't already chosen it. Or they're weighing their options a bit more maybe? :cwink:

Well it doesn't mean that JLM is happening or that Welling is going to be Superman if that is what you mean.

Especially since there is now a possible season 9 happening for Smallville.

Do we know if it is definitely a sequel or is there still the possibility of reboot?

Oh, my bad. What I meant was that maybe they're still weighing different stories for the sequel. Hopefully they've already chosen a story and villains.

Anything is "possible", but from what I heard very recently...we are looking at a sequel as of now.

As of February 2007 Superman Returns grossed $53,790,000 in DVD rentals.

DVD Sales are listed at $82,262,712 in the U.S.

Merchandising Revenue was more than $60 Million.

Right, and I'm sure that by now the total dvd sales (domestic) must be over $100 mil. I wonder how much is the international dvd sales totals of SR, since the film did fairly well out there. I'd also love to know the dvd totals of the Superman Ultimate Collection, which was sold out. I bought it since SR was included.

I'm sure they know what they want.

Yeah, and I would hope that the WB's goofballs are working hard with Singer and or the new writer(s) or possible director to make some kinda annoncement in regards to the status of MOS in July at San Diego Comic Con.

It would be the perfect time and place to give good news about the sequel and get people pumped up in a good way.

The budget for Superman Returns was not 270 Million, I am not sure why this keeps coming up. It was between 204 Million - 209 Million.

So you're willing to accept the estimated WW figure but unwilling to accept the estimated budjet? Smacks a bit like double standards to me.

The US box office is the only accurate judge on how well this movie did money wise, whatever the budget it falls behind Iron Man & Batman Begins. My own personal opinion and from the stories emanating out of the WB, all the SR obsessives should stick to that $270m because $300 is nearer the mark. But i'll repeat only the US box office is a true refection on how well a movie did, popularity-wise not profit

If studios didn't care about the rest of the world, they wouldn't even bother promoting their movies.

There have been dozens of movies, that have got a sequel thanks to their BO overseas. And almost sure that's why there are big chances for MOS to happen, because it did pretty good outside the U.S.

Showtime with double standards? He is the most neutral guy you will meet on this boards.

Horn himself has said he thought the "minmum was 500 million". They also said they would be pleased with "just 120 million opening week" prior to its opening. It did 108.

The 500 million was after it only hit the 370's or 380's mark WW. When they were at Caans and the media was noticing not a big presence for SR exceprt for a few banners and talked to the WB guys about why so little, the WB guys said something like "we don't need to. This film is going to be huge this summer". The WB thought it was going to be big and they were expecting Spidey numbers.

Precisely.

Superman Returns was not made to be a niche film. It was made to be a summer blockbuster. It was called by the studio "their tentpole film" A tentpole film is made to make enough money to pay for all of the films the studio lost money on in the year. That is what the term "tentpole film means" When it did not become anything of a tentpole, and make the 600 mill Spidey numbers, there went all that money there were counting on. There went ragging rights. There went showing off to the stockholders at the yearly meeting that they have to answer to. So you may see it as a niche film, but Superman Returns was meant to be a blockbuster film. They just signed away too much control to Singer.

This is my point. SUPERMAN RETURNS ended up being a niche film, whether it was intended to be or not. WB greenlit it, and damn well should have realized this, given the concepts and themes and fairly adult nature of the movie. You really think WB didn't approve the script? That they just gave Singer absolute control?

WB expecting Spiderman numbers is just speculation, there is no evidence that they were anywhere.

Ok, so maybe not SPIDER-MAN numbers. But It's not speculation. They obviously wanted a huge movie. After it began to slow down, Horn came out and said that he expected at least $500 million.

"I thought it was a very successful movie, but I think it should have done $500 million worldwide," Horn said. "We should have had perhaps a little more action to satisfy the young male crowd."

So you're willing to accept the estimated WW figure but unwilling to accept the estimated budjet? Smacks a bit like double standards to me.

The budget wasn't $270 million. That takes into account all the money WB spent on developing SUPERMAN LIVES, SUPERMAN REBORN, and JJ Abrams SUPERMAN project over the years. It's pretty much proven at this point.

Completely missing the point, no one mentioned that the studios didn't care about world estimated figures. The point is that every one here is a amateur making wildly inaccurate assumptions about thing they couldn't even begin to take in to account. It's not an insult but the truth WW figures never accurately portray how much was made in the foreign markets and budget's are only known to the money men. If people are going to compare then they should only compare with the facts they know and that is the US box office figure which are accurate to the penny.

The website which had the $270m budget also had the WW figure on, you can't pick the good parts and ignore the bad.

P.S I know i'm as amateurish as everyone else before anyone says

Just throwin this out there but if Hulk is a huge success then could this affect their decision on a sequel?
