WB/DC: It's All Part Of The Plan

I wonder if Morrison will end up the consultant by default if the WB decides to push forward to meet the deadline?

Superman Returns is a great Superman movie to me and many people. And it performed solidly when it first came out. It got mostly good reviews for a reason. People at large just wanted more action.

What killed the sequel was WB's indecision AND incompetence. The morons.

They are so clueless. Poor Superman.

So a Constantine sequel? Really? So was it more acclaimed and praised than SR was? Sigh
and Singer :cwink:

I had a feeling something was up at WB's....things have been far too quite. After reading this report, I have to admit what has peaked my interest is the report that an Aquaman film IS being developed with DiCaprio set to produce along with his production company? Now that is interesting news to say the least huh?

Speaking of Geoff Johns, I met him this past Saturday in San Francisco for an autograph signing session and after party at Isotope Comics in the city and he told me he has talked with Green Lantern Director Martin Campbell, along with the producers and writers. He told me that Campbell will be using elements of his Secret Origins run and adapt some of his ideas into the live action film. To my surprise, he did say he had talked to WB's execs regarding the Flash film, but didn't say anything else.

He was also was mum on the next Superman. He said he hasn't talked with WB's about the next Superman film.....yet at least..... but we both agreed that it would be nice to see his version of Braniac used in the next Supes film from his Superman/Braniac story arc from last year. He said he was excited to finally see Green Lantern getting off the ground and he thinks it will be amazing. He signed my Green Lantern books of his, Sinestro Corp Wars, the latest Blackest Night first issue, Secret Origins, and I had him sign one of the issues of the Braniac story arc. Specifically the one where Braniac is staring at Supes in that creepy cacoon look and Supes is looking at him in amazement.

I also took a couple of pics with him! I was stoked....found out he was going to be there on Friday and went right after work on Saturday to catch him at 4pm. Everything worked out perfectly! Johns is the man....I hope to run into him again. It saved me a trip to this years craziness at Comic Con!

I plan on being at the Con next summer though for the big Green Lantern promotion and marketing campaign.

Needless to say, none of those are ever getting made. They won't make a trip to script to movie limbo and rescuing most of the films they didn't even want to make last year, for some future dates. This is all talk to get some reactions.

The Bizarro Superman project has kind of came out of no where and has me confused as well. Judging by who they've hired to write (Galaxy Quest, MIB 2) i think we can expect it to have a comedic tone.

It's good to see that WB/DC have some sort of plan for feature slate though i doubt many of these projects will get out of development hell. Lots of the people mentioned in that article will be present at Comic Con so hopefully we'll get more details on these projects pretty soon.

Cool, thanks for sharing that.

Interesting how Jeff Robinov said this in 2007.....

and now in 2009 in a post TDK world his colleague Alan Horn says this....

"Our hope is to develop a Superman property and to try again," Warner Bros. Entertainment president Alan Horn said in April. "What hurt us is that the reviews and so on for the Superman movie did not get the kind of critical acclaim that Batman got, and we have other issues with Superman that concern us."

We've known about it for a couple of months actually.

Latino Review reviewed the script back in April.

It was a spec script that was written by Robert Gordon. Supposedly just for fun.

I really am not a fan of the Bizarro Superman film idea. I'd rather see a Jimmy Olsen movie first.

Which would be AWESOME.

Good to hear about Johns, Morrison, and Wolfman. I'm guessing that the flash will be next depending on how green lantern goes. Negatives from that article, the bizzaro script, I can't believe they would even waste money on developing that further.

Although with the comic writers as consultants and at least some input i would imagine they would want to do something like an origin story. I knew Barry Allen coming back seemed like it was a corporate decision. Also, I'm even more interested to see johns' superman secret origin because if it is well received I would be surprised if they use it.

I feel the same way. Great to hear Johns, Morrison and Wolfman have been hired as story writers and consultants for some DC/WB film propeties but a Bizarro script?? Wasting time and money on that just does not make sense.....but then again if they can make a cheap Bizarro comedy for 60 million, and if ends up making 150 million, WB's would love it. LOL

A studio executive talking outta both sides of their ass is surprising how exactly?

Bizarro and LoBo both sound like a waste, but hey, its not my money. have at em' WB.

Hopefully that's the extent of it.

The good news is that Horn testified under oath recently that there's no Superman-related film in development..

So unless this project got moved up recently... it's still just a script (I hope!)

Oh how that would suck if Bizarro were the answer to the Superman related film thats suppose to be put out....

"The projects Morrison and Wolfman are working on are in the early stages at Warners, whose execs declined to comment."

Superman?

Why decline to comment if you hadn't done so with other properties like Flash, etc...?

"What hurt us is that the reviews and so on for the Superman movie did not get the kind of critical acclaim that Batman got,''

they mean from the general public and fans? because the official reviews were pretty good for a comicbook movie.

Totally.

The kind of acclaim they needed was the kind that makes more people pay for a ticket.

I want a superman film that makes me want to see it again as soon as I exit the theater....
the kinda film that makes you go ''holee sheet, I gotta see that again''.

I want a BIBBO movie, dammit.:woot:

And Gangbuster needs his own film, too.

Personally I hope that Johns and Wolfman will end up on Superman and put elements of what they did with the mythos in the movies and get a good blend of the traditional Superman that Johns writes like the Donner/Silver Age Krypton and the cooler elements of the post-COIE stuff that Wolfman created like LexCorp.

I'm glad to hear they're taking pitches for Aquaman, and I guess it's cool that a Flash movie could be underway. I don't care much about the character but that could change.

He's one of the fastest men alive, and can vibrate enough to move through solid objects. He dresses in red and gold. He's also a smartass.

I think Morrison is working on the next Supes story also.

I'll have to look into him then. :yay:

I've gotten the impression he's supposed to be more humorous character, and that would at least be a breath of fresh air for the DC movies.
