Superman Returns We don't like how this movie is looking (merged)

Singer has a motive to lie (to cover his ass)...what motive does the Wall Street Journal have?

How do you know Singer lying about it? How do you figure out it cost more than $250 millions? Did you work for SR & find out the budget price? But I'm sure you're incorrect. You have no proof Singer is lying. I take it you're saying that, 'cause you hate Singer or don't like what you're seeing with SR or both.

 That what I was trying to say. He is just a hater, big hater.

I don't think that SInger has a motive to lie to cover his ass. That is rather strange comment.

Usually the budget is hidden from the general public so that the bank or financers don't freak out when they hear just how much money is pumped into a particular project.
There is alsways the chance that they can pull the plug if the costs get to large.
That would , at least to me, be a (legitimate) reason for singer not to tell the real budget of SR.

Money does play a big role in making movies . Warner has the advantage that they can make up alot of their costs due to toys ,comics and other merchandise as opposed to JUST cinema incomes.
But still the number of 260 or so million is very high. I do suspect that the WallStreet Journal has taken the numbers of the failed superman projects in their final budget estimates.
Which could mean that the budget is ranging anywhere from 180 to 200 million. Well Narnia cost about 180 million and look how well it did. Heck even the HP movies are still doing well , despite the budget rising each time.

If SR is a (big) underperformer , then the sequel might take a long time to make. I'd say that if the domestic income of SR is less then 250 million , i don't think the sequel will be made released in 2009.

hunter: you know that cinmeman has a very hard time to speak here. i guess in 90% hes post are not that what he is trying to say.

BIG HATER,-seems quite clear just b/c Matt pointed out some contention points

Why ? are his points not valid ?

No, but alot can be said about how he presents and debates these points with others. I know Im a kettle as well at times, but theres no reason to always have to stir the Hershey Chocolate so damn much.

I don't see his presentation as hostile compared with the other side of the coin and their constant sarcastic dissmissal of Matt's points
Plus Cine is currently all over this place in threads not even about SR making posts on how others will fail as SR soars

He is allowed to express his displeasure with how he feels the film is progressing (just as you did yesterday in the XMen forum - did you think I wouldn't see)....and you are allowed to express your liking of how Superman Returns is progressing.....so get over it.

It's wrong. Who cares what critics say? It's just another person's opinion, a person who doesn't like anything. Just like all the people on here, that's why I never listen to anyone else's opinion. Mine is all I need. If I like something, then that's it. SR will do okay but it's nothing compared to what people thought a new Superman movie would be, instead, it's some lame kid trying to look like a man...a Superman, and fails, the plot is crap, Lois having a kid really stepped over a boundary there, the mythos is all screwed up now, and having it be a vague sequel to the other crap movies is so stupid, but Singer's is an idiot and doesn't care about the books or the fans so, now it's nothing but a ton of crap we've seen before.

Just him saving people and so on. Very boring.

Can't wait to see the best comic movie this Summer...X-MEN 3!

I have to say I agree 100% X3 will be the best comic movie of the Summer, and I hope SR brings the goods but I also have alot of doubts there.
Just by the bad buzz the movie has got alone in the last year I don't think it will make more then 170million domestic, and Super hero movies dont perform well outside the USA so I say maybe another 100 million from outside the USA.

Numbers which will make it a big let down for the WB, and yes the fans... I hope I am wrong by my gutt tells me I wont be.

bad buzz by us geeks who follow every second and every detail of the movie. there hasn't been much bad buzz from regular (not JUST comic book) movie buffs...

you think it'll make LESS than Batman Begins did? cuz Batman Begins made $205 domestic.

IMO are impossible Spiderman numbers...but your prediction is totally wrong.
Remember that FF did 170 millions domestic! Fantastic Four!!!

Superman is Superman. If the marketing will be decent I can see more than 280 millions domestic and 500 millions WW.

Go back to X3 forum & leave us alone. Same for you too, Bare Knucklez.

You guys are trying to stir trouble with the way you keep saying SR is boring & will suck when you haven't seen the damn thing. Same for X3, whom you haven't seen it either & act like it will better.

What annoys me about the Singer budget quotes is that there is actual fotage of him in an interview confirming the budget was pushing 1/4 Billion

It seem like this Summer season lacks any good movies.

I'm looking foward to X3, Superman, and Nacho Libre (unless I'm forgetting anythig else)

I just pray to god Returns isn't all re-done love story, otherwise I'm afraid general audiences will get bored.

Quarter of a billion=$250M doesn't it ?
ohhhh...he was saying it was pushing a QUARTER of a billion....

....i didn't know he meant that as a fraction. but yeah, a quarter of a billion IS $250.

I just checked DVC at Rotten Tomatoes and its got a pathetic 19% rating by the critics, thats worse than Posiedon. To think that there's been so much of an uproar specially here in my country over something that might be as lame as the reason for the uproar, seems funny to be honest.

why's everyone so worried about the love story? there were only like 8 shots in the whole trailer that showed the love story aspect of Superman and Lois...

...anyway, even if there's a love story then it only emphasizes that the world doesn't need Superman (yet).
