I was talking with only him about critics and you know it.
I made his quote to answer him.

I am still going to see The Da Vinci Code & decide for myself if that Movie sucks or notCinemaman said:OMG! I wrote that CRITICS ARE ALWAYS WRONG IN THEIR PREDICTIONS.
They said DVC will rule, and it sucked (as example what I mean).

Matt said:Wait, you say you don't listen to critics, and they are always wrong and yet it is them saying DVC sucks and you are accepting it as gospel.
Cinemaman said:I gave it 5 out of 10, it was really BAD movie

I believe the correct phrase should be - Critics are not always right in their predictions.Cinemaman said:OMG! I wrote that CRITICS ARE ALWAYS WRONG IN THEIR PREDICTIONS.

TheBlueWolf said:The critics think this will flop or come in below average. Definitely fall way behind Pirates and Code. The trailers have been completely UNDERWHELMING., it was badly edited, and it really hurts when the X-3 and Pirates trailer looks more kick ass than the Superman Returns trailer. That is really sad, it should be the other way around. We all know how long it has taken to finally get a Superman movie to the big screen! Most of us know about all the horror stories and complications that have taken place before Singer pitched his idea and got on board. And well, whether you AGREE or not…the fact remains that there has been a heated buzz of NEGATIVITY circulating this movie even before the lackluster TRAILER came out. We had people dissatisfied with the casting of Routh. We had people that did not like the costume. We had people that hated the idea of Lois Lane being a single mom. And we have people that completely hate the idea of a KID being a plot point of this movie. BAD WORD OF MOUTH will seriously cripple this movie!!! It’s been a long road getting here. I honestly think the powers that be should have played things SAFE. The question to you is…if THEY would have played things safe, and incorporated any of these elements…do you think the movie would potentially GROSS MORE MONEY and receive less negative buzz, than with what we are hearing and seeing now???
The safe mutually satisfied route would have incorporated these elements:
Brighter costume/cape colors (ie. RED)
Bigger “S” emblem
No fancy and redundant “S” emblem on the belt and outfit (tiny s-shields all over the emblem and suit)
Placement of “S” emblem on the back of the cape.
NON CAMPY Lex Luthor – Yes the trailer showed him to be CAMPY
NO SINGLE MOM LOIS LANE, DON’T NEED A KID
Bigger Routh – Give the boy more muscles!!!
The introduction of a Super Villain even if it is Brainiac, as it should have been!
Any of these elements would have only HELPED the movie…NOT HURT IT. You can argue all you want about how FRESH and NEW you want things to be. But the mainstream audience wants something they are comfortable with…something they KNOW. They know Superman wears a bright outfit, with his underwear on the outside. They know Lois Lane is NOT a single mom. Most of them know that Lex Luther is NOT the JOKER. That stuff is BACK STORY, they are familiar with that and comfortable with it and accept it. They want to see something else…like super villains in action, Superman engaged in an EPIC STRUGGLE…conflict etc….not whether or not Lois Lane qualifies for Section 8. lol They should have just played things SAFE…at least to this TINT POLE was established…and then switch things up and do whatever they want for the SEQUEL, because they would have already had an audience from their FIRST MEGA HIT…the MEGAT HIT that it should be!!!
That being said. I really like Brandon Routh, he looks like Superman to me. BUT, I think someone has done EVERYONE a great dis-service. Brandon Routh should bigger and MORE muscular. Yeah, he’s got a few muscles than you can see if you study a picture. I’m talking MUSCLES that you can see just by glancing at a picture from across the room. Anyone see Thomas Jane before he worked out for PUNISHER. The man seriously got RIPPED!!! He was INSANE!!! And it really helped the movie, it gave a lot of credibility to him being the PUNISHER. The same goes for Christian Bale. Wow this many was CRAZY…he dropped down to nearly nothing to make the MACHINIST and then worked out heavily for BATMAN BEGINS and became hard core, it was AWESOME!!! The same with Wesley Snipes…he has always been muscular, but the man really pumped some serious iron before doing BLADE. These are examples of DEDICATION…to try to give the audience the very best that you have to reinforce film character credibility. Yet we have ROUTH who looks as if he worked out maybe 10 times in one month. Seriously, they could have pushed him harder, gotten him to bulk himself up more, gotten himself ripped like THOMAS JANE did. They could have, and that is all that matters! LOST POTENTIAL…I’m afraid this whole movie is going to become LOST POTENTIAL.
This should have been a sure fire shoe in for a #1 Summer Box Office SMASH!!! Not something to fall behind Pirates, Cars, Davinci Code…at this point, I hope this movie does not FLOP….I hope it at least makes average money…just so the Superman name is not completely tarnished!
It is really sad when I have become more interested in Bryan Singer’s Superman Documentary DVD than I have the new movie!!!
What do you think? Play it safe…give the fans and the main stream audience what they are comfortable with. Or play outside the box and stir up some controversy (Single Mom Lois)…which do you think would have earned the BIGGER BUCKS…not which would have been better, but which would have earned the MOST MONEY!!! That is the question…
