Superman Returns We don't like how this movie is looking (merged)

--------------"And this whole "can't judge a movie before you see it" arguement is just crap.

I knew BIG MOMMA 2 was going to be complete crap before it ever came out. And it was!

I knew DATE MOVIE was going to SUCK before I ever saw it, and it DID.

I knew BATMAN FOREVER was going to SUCK as soon as I saw BAT NIPPLES...lol

And yes, I knew BLADE TRINITY was going to SUCK as soon as I saw the NIGHT STALKERS and what DRACULA was going to look like."---------

Maybe you can judge if you're gonna like a film or not but not if it's going to be a flop or not.

Big Mommas House 2: $40 Million budget
Worldwide gross: $136,868,772

Date Movie: $20 Million Budget
Worldwide gross: $78,130,878

Batman Forever: $100 million budget
Worldwide gross: $336,531,112

Blade: Trinity: $65 million budget
Worldwide gross: $128,905,366

So what we really are getting down to here is what you deem a decent flick. So right back to it...it's all opinion.

ouch that is a nasty burn:)

the naysayers are just jealous because it wasn't made to their specific standards

But was it like that with Batman? Spiderman? etc?
more or less....

....there will ALWAYS be a crowd that will form uneducated opinions about the most isignificant details.

I don’t have to eat **** to know that it will taste nasty…I can look at it, and make a rational judgment that it is not appealing to me…I can smell it, and determine that it stinks, and is not something that I want in my mouth. Though there will be people to tell you to NOT judge it, until you taste it…to not knock it, until you try it. Though most of them, tend to be into scat, but that is another story. :-)

Most childish and vulgar statement I've ever seen to spin an argument nowhere.

there is a big difference between eating **** and watching a movie.

and to use that example...
when you smell **** you are taking it in fully by smell based on the complete sense(since you arent smelling part of it you are smelling the whole thing).
When you look at **** you are looking at it completely...there isnt just a part of it.
Based on having smelled it and seen it you have decided that you dont want it ion your mouth.
You have not seen the totality of SR but small scenes jumbled up.

the rest of the movie sounds ok... the same old supes vs lex stuff. Whats really great is the introduction of Jason Lane into the story. The kid is everything. If people love him, be sure this movie will soar to new heights of box office dominace. But if he's despised like some of the more nitpicky posters here do, then this movie will fail. Everything else is pretty much good honest true superman that pop culture fans knows and loves except Jason. He's the unknown element at this time. but Im sure everyone will certainly develop a liking for him just as everybody loves that dakota fanning girl.

Jason will make everyone forget this witch exists.

This is such a pointless discussion. Every movie has the potential to be a flop. Every movie has a chance to suprise. We simply don't know, and until the movie is out, until we do know, it's pointless to try to find out "where Singer went wrong". It very well be he never went wrong in the first place, and I do love Fanning. :(

Good point. The naysayers are going mad simply because now that we have known all the plot, we can say that the movie rocks.

& you know what who cares what Critics think ? The WB doesn't. Hell they are already planning to have Singer come back in 2007 to Direct The Sequel. The WB is ignoring the Critics we should to. **** the Critics

I dont know if this has been mentioned but the biggest reason people dont go to the movies as much and most big profile movies flop is because of the increasing ticket price and the rise of home theater equipment. You got HDTV now, plasma screens big enough to make you feel like your at the movies, HD DVD/Blu Ray players that you can taste the pie displayed at hand and all that in the comfort of your own home! Not to mention pirating does have a small part in it, but not as much as most people think. It's all about home theater these days! Some people even say this technology came to fast (HD material). That's a pretty justified reason as to why the box-office numbers are going down so fast!

I thought the same thing...:)

As far as the Routh concerns go, nobody knows what they are talking about, good or bad. Nobody has really seen him act.

Remember all the negative buzz surrounding Batman'89? The Wall Street Journal even had a cover article about how terrible (including reports of campiness) the movie was going to be. And needless to say it did just fine.

So to negative buzz, I say F**K OFF! :)

Fifteen? Uh... you DO know that X-Men came out in 2000, right? That was only six years ago... how can it be responsible for making films before its release possible? It is responsible for bringing back the comic book film "industry" from nowhere after Batman and Robin flattened it, but still...

Going that far back, you can thank BATMAN for re-envigorating the comic book film market, which had been flattened by Superman IV: The Quest for Peace, and then even farther back, we owe everything to Superman: The Movie for showing people that comic book films could make money and be fantastic while doing it in the first place.
Sorry I made a mistake...for some reason I was thinking X-Men came out in the early to mid 90s.

The movie industry is making movies that aren't creative, by the numbers, sequels!!! Walt Disney was opposed to making sequels to his films because making a sequel isn't open to new ideas!!

Let me ask you all something.

If someone were to tell you all what you know now, two years ago, when Singer was first announced as the film's director, what would be your reaction? If someone told you in one felt blow, that Lois would have a kid (now revealed to be Superman's), that Lex would again don a wig and again be involved in some kind of real-estate scheme instead of an original idea with a different and more visually exciting villain, and you were shown a picture of Brandon Routh (different color scheme, "small s", high neckline and all), what would be your gut-reaction? I know when these select aspects were introduced, most of you (not all) were up in arms about it.

It seems like from the day that picture of Routh was released, you have been compromising. Think of your gut reactions. Since this is all new to the general public, they have not had time to compromise and their gut reactions are very similar to yours, (WHY ISN'T SUPERMAN PUNCHING GUYS WITH SUPERPOWERS?? WHY DOES SUPERMAN HAVE A CHILD??? WHY IS LOIS LANE WITH ANOTHER MAN??). Additionally, the laughable attempt at marketing aren't really helping the movie or altering any perceptions.
You shouldn't have to scour the internet and television for promotional material for a "blockbuster" film, you should be inundated with commercials and advertisements, especially this late in the game.

Just my two cents.

Do you remember Cage as Superman, Polar Bears, muscle suit, Lex Alien CIA Agent...?

Just as a quick fun respose to the tile of this thread....

Most huge critics...are just that Huge critics

IMO Superman will be a creative superhero movie. Batman Begins was excellent too.

The theory of "bad sequels" could work with X3 or Mission Impossible 3...but the worst surprise is The Da Viinci Code.

Hence why I said if you were told two years ago, when Singer was announced. Not 10 years ago. Sure what we have now is obviously better for the franchise, but just because it's not as horrid, why compromise?

I also remember the hoopla about Michael Keaton being cast as Batman
People didnt think Snipes could pull off Blade
How about the no name actor playing Wolverine, Ian Mckellan playing Magneto or the black outfits.

Tell me a single superhero movie without compromise.

I apologize, I did not correctly encapsulate what i was trying to express. Of course there is compromise in every single movie, but the fans should not have to compromise to the extent to they have done here.
