Superman Returns We don't like how this movie is looking (merged)

Singer doesn't really know Superman, all he knows are the previous movies, he even said he watched the musical, what an idiot.

The suit, the actor, the story, the vague sequel, the trailers, all crap.

An epic, faithful to the comic book Superman movie is what should have been made. Singer is too small minded and very dull. He made the X-men movies into little dull films, that should've been big epics.

I still can't believe he did that to the X-men and now Superman.

I've been trying to be more positive about this but, I just can't, after seeing what's been done to a character who I've liked as long as I can remember I just can't be happy about it. I haven't seen it yet and maybe the movie will be okay but, I'm not getting my hopes up. It looks like a remake of Superman one, but with Lois having a kid.:down :down

Can you finally go away? Or I will go to X3 forum and begin to bash your movie.

Go away from this boards.

It cant be. SR have enough chances to get $300m.

And you should understand it.

Besides, I doubt DVC and X# will even make more than $250m.

It's his opinion, leave him alone. Everyone has a right to be on these boards. Even if that opinion is based off not seeing the movie, it's still an opinion.

Superman Returns will do good regardless of Routh's casting, who cares what critics think, the movie isn't made for them but us fans.

No way in hell POTC2 and MI3 can make more money than SR.

Sorry, my english isn't so good, but I am not only one, who have this problem.

Well, then maybe you shouldn´t go around and accuse other posters about not wanting to understand you when it is hard to understand you, especially since the reason is that your english is bad.

But I've explained him what I was trying to say.

I said: "I think critics are always wrong with their predictions, not opinions".

Everybody can understand it or he also has problems with English.

so the only way to make a good superman movie is to be an expert on the comics???/

i totally disagree with everything you posted here...

...Singer is making a documentary about Superman, that shows he's done more than just watch the previous movies. the suit, the actor, the story, the vague sequel, the trailers......all genius imo.

an epic, faithful to the comic book Superman movie is what IS getting made and Singer has an imagination that dwarfs most of ours. the x-men movies weren't dull...they were deep and exciting to watch......in my opinion.

i can understand attacking someone because of differing opinions, it happens all the time...

...but attacking someone because their English isn't good? man, this board's reached an all time low...

everything looks ok so far excpet the story... hopefulyl singer left us a few twists and turns like he's know for

I really believe that this film will be great and do great in the box office. But the reality is that every movie has the potential of being bad or mediocre. You can't blame anyone for having that opinion based on the things they have heard, even if they sound absurd.

I wasn´t attacking him. He was posting that Matt didn´t want to understand him, and I pointed out that it´s not all that easy to understand him since his english is pretty bad and he has problems putting together a coherent sentence.

I totally agree with everything you posted here. All of the people who talk as if they are some kind of authority on Superman should gather their poor naysaying asses together and raise money to make their own version of Superman. Maybe then we'd find some peace on these boards while they're distracted.

Is this thread really any different than the other flop thread?

Is any of this really relevant? All of this are recycled gripes from a year ago. Nothing new has been brought to the table. The same fanboy gut reactions are being spun into new "possible flop" theories. Look I could care less what you expect but let's wait till we have something new. Otherwise this is nothing but opinion. You can swing this either way right now because we just dont know.

The critics think this will flop or come in below average. Definitely fall way behind Pirates and Code. The trailers have been completely UNDERWHELMING., it was badly edited, and it really hurts when the X-3 and Pirates trailer looks more kick ass than the Superman Returns trailer. That is really sad, it should be the other way around. We all know how long it has taken to finally get a Superman movie to the big screen! Most of us know about all the horror stories and complications that have taken place before Singer pitched his idea and got on board. And well, whether you AGREE or not…the fact remains that there has been a heated buzz of NEGATIVITY circulating this movie even before the lackluster TRAILER came out. We had people dissatisfied with the casting of Routh. We had people that did not like the costume. We had people that hated the idea of Lois Lane being a single mom. And we have people that completely hate the idea of a KID being a plot point of this movie. BAD WORD OF MOUTH will seriously cripple this movie!!! It’s been a long road getting here. I honestly think the powers that be should have played things SAFE. The question to you is…if THEY would have played things safe, and incorporated any of these elements…do you think the movie would potentially GROSS MORE MONEY and receive less negative buzz, than with what we are hearing and seeing now???

The safe mutually satisfied route would have incorporated these elements:

Brighter costume/cape colors (ie. RED)
Bigger “S” emblem
No fancy and redundant “S” emblem on the belt and outfit (tiny s-shields all over the emblem and suit)
Placement of “S” emblem on the back of the cape.
NON CAMPY Lex Luthor – Yes the trailer showed him to be CAMPY
NO SINGLE MOM LOIS LANE, DON’T NEED A KID
Bigger Routh – Give the boy more muscles!!!
The introduction of a Super Villain even if it is Brainiac, as it should have been!

Any of these elements would have only HELPED the movie…NOT HURT IT. You can argue all you want about how FRESH and NEW you want things to be. But the mainstream audience wants something they are comfortable with…something they KNOW. Superman is one of the MOST RECOGNIZED characters/figures/symbols in the WORLD. Mainstream people know Superman wears a bright outfit, with his underwear on the outside. They know Lois Lane is NOT a single mom. Most of them know that Lex Luther is NOT the JOKER. That stuff is BACK STORY, they are familiar with that and comfortable with it and accept it. They want to see something else…like super villains in action, Superman engaged in an EPIC STRUGGLE…conflict etc….not whether or not Lois Lane qualifies for Section 8. lol They should have just played things SAFE…at least to this TINT POLE was established…and then switch things up and do whatever they want for the SEQUEL, because they would have already had an audience from their FIRST MEGA HIT…the MEGAT HIT that it should be!!!

That being said. I really like Brandon Routh, he looks like Superman to me. BUT, I think someone has done EVERYONE a great dis-service. Brandon Routh should bigger and MORE muscular. Yeah, he’s got a few muscles than you can see if you study a picture. I’m talking MUSCLES that you can see just by glancing at a picture from across the room. Anyone see Thomas Jane before he worked out for PUNISHER. The man seriously got RIPPED!!! He was INSANE!!! And it really helped the movie, it gave a lot of credibility to him being the PUNISHER. The same goes for Christian Bale. Wow this many was CRAZY…he dropped down to nearly nothing to make the MACHINIST and then worked out heavily for BATMAN BEGINS and became hard core, it was AWESOME!!! The same with Wesley Snipes…he has always been muscular, but the man really pumped some serious iron before doing BLADE. These are examples of DEDICATION…to try to give the audience the very best that you have to reinforce film character credibility. Yet we have ROUTH who looks as if he worked out maybe 10 times in one month. Seriously, they could have pushed him harder, gotten him to bulk himself up more, gotten himself ripped like THOMAS JANE did. They could have, and that is all that matters! LOST POTENTIAL…I’m afraid this whole movie is going to become LOST POTENTIAL.

This should have been a sure fire shoe in for a #1 Summer Box Office SMASH!!! Not something to fall behind Pirates, Cars, Davinci Code…at this point, I hope this movie does not FLOP….I hope it at least makes average money…just so the Superman name is not completely tarnished!

It is really sad when I have become more interested in Bryan Singer’s Superman Documentary DVD than I have the new movie!!!

What do you think? Play it safe…give the fans and the main stream audience what they are comfortable with. Or play outside the box and stir up some controversy (Single Mom Lois)…which do you think would have earned the BIGGER BUCKS…not which would have been better, but which would have earned the MOST MONEY!!! That is the question…

Great post....and yes, sadly this movie will flop. And even the new full trailer that is coming next week wont save it: a bullet in the eye?Do you really think thats what the general public want to see about Superman?.
Come on!what a joke,Superman should be epic.Shame on Singer and WB:down

He is an idiot because he checked out afew different incarnations of Superman?

The suit, the actor, the story, the vague sequel, the trailers, all crap.
Opinion...not fact.

If it wasn't for Singer and his X-Men movies most likely we wouldn't have all the comic book/superhero movies that have been made the past 15 years or so.

I still can't believe he did that to the X-men and now Superman.
See my above comment.

I've been trying to be more positive about this but, I just can't, after seeing what's been done to a character who I've liked as long as I can remember I just can't be happy about it. Nothing wrong with that IMO...S:TM is one of the greatest Superhero movies to date..and isn't that what Hollywood is doing anymore these days..remakes? It seems like their are no original ideas anymore.

there's a difference between Matt not understanding him because of differing opinions (which is what he was talking about) and Matt not understanding him because of the language barrier...

...you're talking about the language barrier, he's talking about differing opinions. NOW do you understand?

better yet give me tonites lotto numbers

I have to disagree also. SINGER has done an AMAZING job with the X-MEN movies. As a matter of fact, X-MEN 2 is my all time 2nd Favorite Comic Based movie, with Superman II being FIRST and Spiderman II being THIRD. CONAN the BARBARIAN is fourth (based on comics lol).

I like SINGER, Brandon is a good choice in my opinion. I do not want my post to become a hate post dissing either one of these people. I'm merely asking...what would have made the most money. The current route they are taking...or a SAFER route like I mentioned in my initial post. I think it is a clear no brainer that the SAFER route like I mentioned would have created LESS NEGATIVE buzz and would have generated better reviews and a BIGGER following than what we currently have.

And this whole "can't judge a movie before you see it" arguement is just crap.

I knew BIG MOMMA 2 was going to be complete crap before it ever came out. And it was!

I knew DATE MOVIE was going to SUCK before I ever saw it, and it DID.

I knew BATMAN FOREVER was going to SUCK as soon as I saw BAT NIPPLES...lol

And yes, I knew BLADE TRINITY was going to SUCK as soon as I saw the NIGHT STALKERS and what DRACULA was going to look like.

I knew POSIEDEN ADVENTURE was going to TANK...and well, it will given its big budget and its lack luster appeal. I saw the movie Saturday and it was really good...but more like something you'd watch on DVD, not the theaters...the original was better by the way!

You do not have to see movies to know they will disapoint you...that is why you have a BRAIN and can exercise rational and logical judgements.

Let's not turn this into a lets BASH Singer or X-3 is better than SR thread. Let's keep the HATE down. A simple… YES it would have done better if played SAFE or NO it would not have done better, would have been appropriate. Perhaps I should have made this a snap poll.

PLAY SAFE or NO PLAYING SAFE...which would have earned the BIGGER BUCKS!!!??? That is the question...

I understood exactly what Cinnamon was saying, so I don't think his English is all that bad. He has improved immensely since first coming to the boards and works at it everyday. Its pretty tough to be fluent in 3 languages, nevermind that he is dealing with 3 different languages on a daily basis.
