I agree, Spidey numbers are impossible, but it will be a great summer blockbuster (270-290 in USA and +500 WW).

IMO it's a good sign for Superman that the so-called predictions (based on nothing) had TDVC as the bigger movie of the summer. It probably will be the most disappointing...

Spidey was the right film at the right time, It was the first real Superhero film that came out after 9/11. I love that no one knew it was going to be THAT big. But at the same time, after that, everyone got their exspectations up in the friggin stratosphere.

As far as the DaVinci code, dont count your chickens before they hatch. despite the bad buzz going around, it may still be a big hit. but then again, Over the Hedge may win because it appeals to the rugrats. I never figured V for Vendetta would get overwhelmed by Ice age 2.

Anyway, summers just getting started, Critics have their opinions like anyone else, and Box office is as unpredictible as the Atlantic Hurricane Season.

Well, supposedly some people have seen the 2 hour + cut of the film.....and good vibes are present.

Singer doesn't really know Superman, all he knows are the previous movies, he even said he watched the musical, what an idiot.

The suit, the actor, the story, the vague sequel, the trailers, all crap.

An epic, faithful to the comic book Superman movie is what should have been made. Singer is too small minded and very dull. He made the X-men movies into little dull films, that should've been big epics.

I still can't believe he did that to the X-men and now Superman.

I've been trying to be more positive about this but, I just can't, after seeing what's been done to a character who I've liked as long as I can remember I just can't be happy about it. I haven't seen it yet and maybe the movie will be okay but, I'm not getting my hopes up. It looks like a remake of Superman one, but with Lois having a kid.:down :down

Hello?!? Nolan did Batman Begins & he doesn't even read comics or wasn't a fan like you're making big deal about Singer not being a comic book fans. You whiners should know that you don't have to be a comic book fan to make a good movie. It based on how you handle the story & understand the characters. You all should stop claiming it going to fail like it true, when you haven't seen the damn thing. And how you guys know about the whole story to know it going to suck? You don't!! So stop claiming it bad till you see it first. Oh yeah, close this thread since BlueWolf is fussing about it going to be bad & act like he know the whole thing. And seen it too, when he haven't. I swear many of you guys are whining & hoping it fail 'cause it not done your way.

Other things as well , i dont know about some of you folks , but when i go to see movies i go with two mindsets. To satisfy both it has to be an accomplished movie. The way i look at it is from my "movie making" point of view and from viewer (normal moviegoer) point of view as well. I love it when a movie leaves me inspired and gives me the motivation to go ahead and create some of this amazing world on my own. Sometimes it can be the opposite, because a movie had some flaws or took a few steps in the wrong direction.

These days people will believe anything mags and reviewers say, i can honestly say that i consult such but i dont make my opinion on what was said. Thats the problem with most moviegoers.

I also agree with you KaptainKrypton thats its all about the experience of the movies. I enjoy it. But like i mentioned above people seem to not feel that way anymore. Most people hate theater participation among other things and thats a factor that keeps them away. That factor and the digitalisation of home theaters.

PS: thanks metallo i meant everything in there!

The critics think this will flop or come in below average. Definitely fall way behind Pirates and Code. The trailers have been completely UNDERWHELMING., it was badly edited, and it really hurts when the X-3 and Pirates trailer looks more kick ass than the Superman Returns trailer. That is really sad, it should be the other way around. We all know how long it has taken to finally get a Superman movie to the big screen! Most of us know about all the horror stories and complications that have taken place before Singer pitched his idea and got on board. And well, whether you AGREE or not…the fact remains that there has been a heated buzz of NEGATIVITY circulating this movie even before the lackluster TRAILER came out. We had people dissatisfied with the casting of Routh. We had people that did not like the costume. We had people that hated the idea of Lois Lane being a single mom. And we have people that completely hate the idea of a KID being a plot point of this movie. BAD WORD OF MOUTH will seriously cripple this movie!!! It’s been a long road getting here. I honestly think the powers that be should have played things SAFE. The question to you is…if THEY would have played things safe, and incorporated any of these elements…do you think the movie would potentially GROSS MORE MONEY and receive less negative buzz, than with what we are hearing and seeing now???

The safe mutually satisfied route would have incorporated these elements:

Brighter costume/cape colors (ie. RED)
Bigger “S” emblem
No fancy and redundant “S” emblem on the belt and outfit (tiny s-shields all over the emblem and suit)
Placement of “S” emblem on the back of the cape.
NON CAMPY Lex Luthor – Yes the trailer showed him to be CAMPY
NO SINGLE MOM LOIS LANE, DON’T NEED A KID
Bigger Routh – Give the boy more muscles!!!
The introduction of a Super Villain even if it is Brainiac, as it should have been!

Any of these elements would have only HELPED the movie…NOT HURT IT. You can argue all you want about how FRESH and NEW you want things to be. But the mainstream audience wants something they are comfortable with…something they KNOW. Superman is one of the MOST RECOGNIZED characters/figures/symbols in the WORLD. Mainstream people know Superman wears a bright outfit, with his underwear on the outside. They know Lois Lane is NOT a single mom. Most of them know that Lex Luther is NOT the JOKER. That stuff is BACK STORY, they are familiar with that and comfortable with it and accept it. They want to see something else…like super villains in action, Superman engaged in an EPIC STRUGGLE…conflict etc….not whether or not Lois Lane qualifies for Section 8. lol They should have just played things SAFE…at least to this TINT POLE was established…and then switch things up and do whatever they want for the SEQUEL, because they would have already had an audience from their FIRST MEGA HIT…the MEGAT HIT that it should be!!!

That being said. I really like Brandon Routh, he looks like Superman to me. BUT, I think someone has done EVERYONE a great dis-service. Brandon Routh should bigger and MORE muscular. Yeah, he’s got a few muscles than you can see if you study a picture. I’m talking MUSCLES that you can see just by glancing at a picture from across the room. Anyone see Thomas Jane before he worked out for PUNISHER. The man seriously got RIPPED!!! He was INSANE!!! And it really helped the movie, it gave a lot of credibility to him being the PUNISHER. The same goes for Christian Bale. Wow this many was CRAZY…he dropped down to nearly nothing to make the MACHINIST and then worked out heavily for BATMAN BEGINS and became hard core, it was AWESOME!!! The same with Wesley Snipes…he has always been muscular, but the man really pumped some serious iron before doing BLADE. These are examples of DEDICATION…to try to give the audience the very best that you have to reinforce film character credibility. Yet we have ROUTH who looks as if he worked out maybe 10 times in one month. Seriously, they could have pushed him harder, gotten him to bulk himself up more, gotten himself ripped like THOMAS JANE did. They could have, and that is all that matters! LOST POTENTIAL…I’m afraid this whole movie is going to become LOST POTENTIAL.

This should have been a sure fire shoe in for a #1 Summer Box Office SMASH!!! Not something to fall behind Pirates, Cars, Davinci Code…at this point, I hope this movie does not FLOP….I hope it at least makes average money…just so the Superman name is not completely tarnished!

It is really sad when I have become more interested in Bryan Singer’s Superman Documentary DVD than I have the new movie!!!

What do you think? Play it safe…give the fans and the main stream audience what they are comfortable with. Or play outside the box and stir up some controversy (Single Mom Lois)…which do you think would have earned the BIGGER BUCKS…not which would have been better, but which would have earned the MOST MONEY!!! That is the question…

I agree with you! It would have been smarter to give the public a warm fuzzy Reeve-like Superman experience and THEN follow up with a few twists and turns and changes when the coast was clear. STILL, I am liking what I'm seeing so far. I'm not blown away, but am looking forward to June 30th!

Sorry but a faithfull to the comic movie is the LAST thing Superman needs, considering that his comics are mostly dreck. The best Superman represwentation has always been Donner's Movie. It has been better than most Superman comics put into existance. That#s what we need as a template not the ****ty comics.

After reading what I've seen is in the novilization, it sounds like this movie will be nothing short of spectacular!!! Oh, and the plot-line delivered by Lex Luthor at the end of the movie.. you know, what he whispers in supes ear (right before he pushes him out from the cliff) is so ****ing cool!!!

blah blah blah..... this crap is getting old.... just wait for the movie to come out, dude. Holy cow.... sometimes, i wish the internet was never invented.

I'am sick and tired of people saying the movie will suck because of reasons that aren't really reasons at all.

The real reason why people like TheBlueWolf are complaining is fear. They're afraid. And we know a good movie when we see one, right fans?

Let's compare Superman Returns and Catwoman.

Superman Returns had 50/50 on costume, story, the kid, Luthor, etc. Yet, Comic Con footage, Wonder Con footage, teaser that felt like STM, cool trailer and the 2nd trailer sounding cooler, we're fine now. Plus, its Singer. He's done a well know crime gang movie (Usual Suspects), a obsessed fan of Nazis (Apt. Pupil), plus he's done two X-Men movies so he knows superhero films.

And on Catwoman: costume=bad, it sucked and we knew it. More trailers and footage of the film coming out, the more it sucked. And you know what? IT SUCKS!!!!!!

Same feeling about Superman Returns? NO!

The movie's gonna be fine.

We just want something from you, The BlueWolf and people like you: SHUT THE HELL UP!

I figured going with a Superman that most people know as opposed to going with a newer version was playing it safe.

SHH! tries not to be the *******s at IMDB. But with people like this one that started this board, SHH! has become just like IMDB.
