What are your Gripes/Concerns with the project?

It's impossible to hate EVERYTHING about a movie.

For example, I saw date movie and I LOVED when the end credits started to roll.

About Chatwin and his look: He in high school in this movie, so hes not out there training 24/7, 365 days a year like Vegeta or Goku in the series. So, obviously, he wont look the super muscular guy that he does in the anime. Besides, during the King Piccolo saga, he was young and was not muscular.

As for the Goku being a dumbass thing... lol. I always found it funny how he did not go to school, yet he was able to explain stuff like physics and the effects of gravity in the series to the people he trained as tho he was a certified proffesor xD. He also knew how to count, even if it was using his fingers :P. He may not have gone to school, but he certainly understood his ABC's and the concept of energy :).

My biggest gripe is that they are omitting elements from DB that I think are very essential. Talking animals for example may seem kinda foolish, but it was one of the things that made DB unique. Second, I think that the characters hair should closely resemble the respective character that they are portraying. Third, this movie seems like it is being rushed, I really hope that the this movie proves me wrong and turns out to be good. I remember before Transformers came out, I had a feeling that the movie was not going to be good, imo, i thought it was very good. Here's hoping that DB is just as good.

The movie is being rushed, but they still have quite a lot of time before August. Plus it seems this movie wont be as special effects filled as Transformers or FF4. I mean the fights can be done with stunts, and the only special effects, besides any scenery and lighting effects, would be the energy blast effects and the green screen flying thing. They should be able to pull that off in the 4 months the movie will be in post production, not to mention the work they already are doing while the movie is still filming.
Maybe the rush was made an option because they were able to speed up the post production process by advancing it as much as they could while filming, saving time and money? Chances are it wasn't, but its a nice thought :).

1. James Wong. He's co-writing and Directing, yet his films in the past were Final Destination 3, Black Christmas, and The one. Triple threat, as all were terrible flicks.

2. If Godzilla told us anything, it was that you can't pass off a terrible script as a Big-budget Japanese adaptation. If they try something like that, this movie is sure to fail.

3. High School. Goku is a warrior, and as mentioned earlier, this only brings to mind bad memories of sky high. Not good.

4. Fox doesn't seem to be caring a whole lot about this license. How many years have they owned the rights, and now it's being rushed? It's coming out in a few months, and has no website, official pics, anything. Even watchmen(which comes out in 09) has more on that field. Do we have an exact budget?

5. Who the F*** is Teto? Why are we adding these random extra characters, when we have a stockpile of others in the series already?

6. Stephen Chow is only producing. If he was more involved, this movie could be more on the right track.

Hopefully it's nothing, and when we see a trailer soon, and I mean soon, then we'll all feel okay.

Budget is $100 million dollars.

(Bigger than "Kung Fu Hustle," "The Matrix," and many other movies).

Teto is a minor role and won't have more than 5 minutes unfortunately.

High school will be as short an aspect like it was in Spider-Man.

FOX can do whatever they want, be grateful they are actually being as faithful as they are.

I'm surprised that the mainstream or other websites besides Aint It Cool News haven't picked up Fox's lazy method of making films. Granted they have the best marketing in the business, but that's it.

After seeing films like Date Movie, Alien Vs. Predator 1 and 2, Hitman, X-Men: The Last Stand, Fantastic Four 1 and 2, The League of Extordinary Gentlemen, Daredevil, Electra, and more...I figure that Fox doesn't care about quality. They like to butcher movies like Kingdom of Heaven and Live Free or Die Hard. They fired the director of 'Hitman', and reshot a bunch of scenes with a new director. They almost sabotage Borat by cutting down on the number of releases in theaters nationwide, until it became a hit. Let's not mention the whole X3 pre-production fiasco.

It's amazing. I mean...all of the studios are full of crap sometimes, but Fox takes it all in for being the ONE studio that doesn't give a darn.

I hate to say it but your right. That's my biggest fear with this movie is that its produced by Fox. Even if they shoot it well and the actors do thier job I could see Fox chopping it to bits so they can get like six showings in one day.

you and Octoberist bring up great points. i think what happened is that Fox sat on the idea of a DB movie for the longest time, then when they saw that Transformers was uber successful they probably thought "cartoons CAN be made into successful movies! let's try to duplicate that success....except we'll use less talent and money."

that would be awesome if it were up to par with TF

in order for that to happen they would need the Wachowski's as directors and a much stronger lead actor. Shia Lebouf carried TF. if it weren't for him, the movie wouldn't have been nearly as good.

definitely. Michael Bay's movies need strong lead actors because there's not much substance. the Rock, Bad Boys, Armageddon...all had strong lead actors. even though Ewan McGregor is a great actor, he's not a strong lead actor...that's one of the reasons why the Island wasn't as good as it could have been. just imagine Transformers and imagine it with Justin Chatwin in Shia Lebouf's place. it wouldn't be nearly as good...

Ewan is the smaller film type afterall. What's heartbreaking is that I haven't seen him in anything in a long time....besides the Woody Allen movie that just came out, and I've heard it's a miss.

My biggest gripe is that Dragonball's fantasy setting is being thrown our the window.

What did someone say something about jaugernought in leather bondage?:woot:

1) Transformers sucked. If this turned out like that I would kill myself.
2) Shia LaBouf is MORE annyoing than Chatwin. All he says is "NO NO NON ON ONO NO NONONONONONO"
3) If it weren't for the annoying humans in transformers, the movie MIGHT have been entertaining instead of the snoozefest it was.

I never liked Transformers though, seemed incredibly stupid.

The thing is, I thought Transformers was just OK. Shia seemed to be over acting in the beginning, with some of the comedy and tension feeling forced. It had great special effects, though. Hopefully, Fox doesn't follow the Transformer model too closely (even though that seems to be their plan).

1 - the people who pitched in to contribute a $706 mil box office would disagree with you.
2 - kinda hard to beat Chatwin in the annoying department. i remember when they announced that he was cast every person who commented on Chatwin kept asking or saying something about "Tom Cruise's ANNOYING son from War of the Worlds". on the other hand, i've only heard a few people say that Shia LaBeouf was annoying. you're one of those few and it's no surprise.
3 - i wish the humans played a smaller role but Transformers was one of the most popular movies of 2007. hardly a snoozefest.

well at least you're willing to show your bias.

i thought that TF was only "okay" also, but that's besides the point. you responded to my post and my post only stated that it was SUCCESSFUL movie. i wasn't stating my opinion of the movie...i was saying that it made a lot of dinero.

Hopefully, Fox doesn't follow the Transformer model too closely (even though that seems to be their plan).
not really. Trasformers had the benefit of 2 insanely successful directors, 1 as producer, the top special effects house (ILM) and 2 self-proclaimed fans as writers, as well as a solid lead actor. DB, on the other hand, has a very mediocre (arguably crumby) director doubling as the writer, a great producer who doesn't seem to really care, a pretty good SFX team, and a lead actor who constantly gets negative comments from non-regulars and people on other forums. the only similarities between the way these movies are being handled is that both aren't as faithful as they could be. TF had the makings of a hit...DB is a half-assed attempt at duplicating that hit.

1) Are you saying that what a movie makes in box office revenue is what makes it good?

I'm sure "The Matrix: Revolutions" made a lot of money, but that was an embarrassing piece of ****.

2) I didn't see "War of the Worlds." I saw his roles on TV and in "The Invisible" and he seemed like a believable teen. Shia just seems like a *****e to me. Chatwin seems like a cool guy to hang out with off set (most likely because he isn't a hugely successful actor).

3) Special effects don't make a movie. Story and believable action does. It had a poor story and the action was confusing.

But yeah, Dragonball is better than Transformers. Any day.

TF was a good movie. not a GREAT movie...but a good one.

as far as Chatwin vs LaBeouf, most people who aren't regulars here have expressed that they found Chatwin annoying in War of the Worlds and some who saw Invisible found him to be the same in that movie....i have to agree. despite your opinion (which is not the end all be all) most people who know about Chatwin find him annoying....while only a handful found LaBeouf annoying.

as for your comment about story and believable action making a movie......do you realize wtf movie we're talking about here? do you honestly think DB will have a deep story and believable action? you're frikkin' out of your gourd! it's pretty obvious your love for the DB series is effecting your opinion for the DB movie.

I believe it will have a better story than... well, wait, did Transformers even have a story?! I seriously can't even remember. It was just action scenes and Anthony Anderson acting like an idiot, then Bernie Mac, cut to Megan Fox looking hot, then more explosions.

And I said believable action. Not realistic action. I know someone punching someone through mountains isn't realistic, but hopefully they will be able to make it look believable.

And tons of people find LaBouf annoying. Go to digg or youtube :P. Anyway, it's my opinion and unless you saw a special cut that made Transformers a million times better, then I will stand by what I said (and most critics agree with me) that Transformers was a messy, stupid, and boring "movie."

once again...your bias shows. keep on defending...your efforts will be futile come August 15th.

My bias on what? On hating crappy movies?

At the very least, we can thank god Michael Bay isn't directing. And I know someone who is a fan of James Wong and doesn't like Dragonball, who said he would trust James Wong with any sci-fi material. This isn't my opinion, but it gave me some confidence in the man.

And Stephen Chow is the man. So is Chow Yun-Fat, James Marsters, and the visual team. I'll like this better than Transformers simply for seeing Chow Yun-Fat as Roshi. Pure awesomeness.
