What are your Gripes/Concerns with the project?

No Vegeta at least not this time around

Uh, considering that Vegeta is one of those big characters from the cartoon, it'd be a mistake not to utilize him at all. I mean he started out as a villain and ended up a huge, huge character. I mean come on, Akira Toriyama thought well enough of him to have him merge with Goku.

No. It'd be a mistake to utilize him for this Dragonball movie. DBZ, sure, Vegeta is needed there.

Goku = Peter Parker (Unpopular highschool Loner/weirdo)
Master Roshi/Grandpa Gohan = Uncle Ben (With Great power, yadda, yadda...)
Chi-Chi = Mary Jane (Goku's Love From Afar)
Yamcha/Tito(Who should have been Krillin!) = Harry Osbourne (Best Friend)
Piccolo = Green Goblin

I really hope this flick surprises me and comes out closer to than

High School is just completely unnecessary from my perspective. Not only is it not original, but it's completely irrelevant to the dragon ball mythos and Goku's character. If someone goes to school I don't see how they can turn out like Goku, because if it's one thing that high school does it washes away your innocence with the harsh cold water of disappointment and insecurity. Not exactly recipes for Pure Hearted Heroes...it's hard to be naive when you go to public school...that's all I'm saying...

Concerns - Itll flop, itll so bad they wont make a sequel, the fighting will be something ive seen 100x before

You say that as if there are very many KNOWN Asian actors in Hollywood. I guess Zhang Ziyi should just be THE female asian character in every single movie, right? She'd might as well be Mai and Chi Chi, right?

I blame Hollywood for NOT making many great Asian actors known. With this movie, I'd say it's about time we get a majority Asian cast based on an ASIAN story.

Now why would somebody give a dude from another planet, that looks just like an Earth white dude, a Japanese name?

That would make sense, but in this adaptation it appears he's living in a western society - I can't see as much evidence of Goku living in a heavily influenced Japanese society in this film.

Firstly, Dragon Ball is more of a Chinese setting with mostly Chinese names. Though Grandpa Gohan [Japanese meaning for "rice] has a "Japanese" name, he too is living in that mystical Chinese land/forest.

Goku, meaning "Sky" was adapted into Japanese from the original Chinese "Son Wukong." Bottom line is, Gohan is the one who found him and he himself is Chinese [Or Japanese] hence the name, whether being once secluded in a forest at one point or not.

concern- if this turns out bad this signals the end of anime movies and holywood...its hard enough being a dbz fan while the rest of the anime community(mostly the narutards not the normal nice naruto fans) and comic book nuts thinks that dbz isnt worth a crap. if this thing bombs...i just hope this doesnt bombs.
