It's cool. I don't think it's the perfect title, but it never seemed as though there was a perfect title for this movie anyway.

i think it should include batman in the title. even my copy of dkr says Batman: the dark knight returns

Good to see they didn"t go with a number

Numbers are total cop outs I think

why do we care so much if the "average joe" thinks its a king authur movie and not a batman flick. F.**K em if there that dumb. The title is perfect and all true batman fans will recgognize that.

Wow, this sort of unanimous approval is pretty rare on the boards. Nolan has the fanboys on the palm of his hand...

you´re right. it´s really amazing that no one on this boards has screamed in rage and anger that nolan has raped their childhood for using this title because it´s OBVIOUS that the movie can ONLY be called insertcrappytitlehere and they wil boycott this movie for this reason.

It's great. It's like the original Star Wars flicks and Indiana Jones.

in this case it would be "Batman and The Dark Knight" (which would probably be a movie about batman standing in front of a mirror:up: :) )

I like the title a lot. Thank God it's not BATMAN CONTINUES, haha. Then they could have called #3 BATMAN STILL CONTINUES. :joker:

or BATMAN CONTINUES TO CONTINUE

Look, not that it bothers me the way it is, i think it actually may have an effect on the box office. Before you get mad at me, hear me out. I think "the dark knight" will turn people away from the film when they realize they have no idea what the movie is about. Now, I'm not talking about us fanboys who don't want them to add "batman" anywhere in the title, I'm talking about the general public, and it actually kind of pains me inside when I think about it. I told about 3 of my non-superhero fan friends, two which loved BB, and all of them were kind of scratching their heads to it. One of them called it gay, which pissed me off because he doesn't have any clue as to the origins or reason behind it, and figures they just made it up or something, but my entire point here, is that although they have us locked in for the movie, the general public may be scratching their heads towards the movie. "Is it supposed to be a batman movie?" " That looks like some batman ripoff...." Blah, f the normies. but if we/they want this movie to do exceptionally well at the B.O., they will either have to do some heavy advertising, or something of the sort to bring the masses out of confusion. Now, again, as said before, I love the title as is, so don't think I'm going against it, I just want this movie to do very well so we can see many sequels to come. Let me know where you all stand on this.

We've been over this.

People will know the same way they know that a Bond movie is a Bond movie.

Yep, and from press releases and articles they'll understand it's the Batman Begins sequel. If you read WB's press release "[...] Batman Begins' sequel The Dark Knight". Know what I mean!?

I don't know about you, but when I see a poster with a big guy dressed in black with a cape and pointy ears on his mask...

I know what kind of movie I'm gonna be seeing.

Yup

Batman was an established franchise before the films, and Nolan should've respected that. Batman is still Batman, "The Dark Knight" is just a description like "The Man of Steel" is to Superman.

Unless Batman will refer to himself as "The Dark Knight", which he won't, it's stupid to leave out the Batman part. Don't get me wrong - "The Dark Knight" is a cool title, I just don't think it's apropriate to leave out "Batman".

Because of that, it's just 'ok'.

Yeah, but what about those who drive to the theater, look at the big list of movies currently playing, and only see "The Dark Knight"? Or those who read in the paper a list of what's playing and dont see Batman written anywhere in there? What about those who dont watch much TV to see TV spots, and dont go to the theater enough to see trailers and posters.

Yeah, but almost every theater I saw that had Batman Begins at it just had it listed as Batman ontheir boards. It was the same with Star Wars 3; ROTS, they just put up Star Wars.

As for the paper, I know most major movies get a little ad in the paper. So it will have a picture of Batman or the bat logo and will then say The Dark Knight, and then list the theaters and showtimes for the movie.

WB will market it as Batman:The Dark Knight but the offical title will be the Dark Knight.

I think the title will end up being Batman:The Dark Knight anyway, i mean we did'nt end up with Batman: Intimidation Game did we.

but Intimidation Game was never announced officially by Warner's head honcho.

Excatcly: Everyone knows Casnio Royale is a Bond flick. No need to Call it James Bond:Casino Royale

No need to cal it Batman:The Dark Knight either

It would probably have the Dark Knight showtimes with the BATMAN LOGO in the background. That should be enough to clue them in. That or the looooong line of kids in front of them asking for tickets to the "batman movie" :batman:

I love the new title, it goes against the grain and it was defiantely what I was hoping for and looking for. Using "Batman: Whatever" is lame, and "Batman 2" is boring. This is great news, I was thrown that they actually named it what I wanted them to name it.

I'm split on that. I agree I think the "2" would've cleared up things for anyone who still has not seen Begins thinking it was just another Batman sequel and not a restart. The "2" would have said "this is the new Batman, this is number 2 in this series and there is no connection between this Batman and the previous ones".

But I do like "The Dark Knight" (without "Batman") because I think it is going in the direction that they sound like they wanted to. For me it also says "hey people you're not that stupid, we don't need to keep saying Batman THIS and Batman THAT". I'm sure they just need to show the Bat-symbol and everything is clear for any misinterpretation of any heavily armored medieval person:). I acutally like the exclusion of "Batman". It sounds like a series of books/stories rather than Batman movie title 1, Batman movie title 2, etc. For me, it says to the public, "this guy needs no intro, you're not children anymore, and this is for you more mature adults, a good action-drama-thriller movie" time for you to enjoy, the kiddies can have the other superheroes to enjoy. Egh, I'm sure I'm translating it WAAAAY too much, but I guess what I'm tryign to say is "YAY! I'm content!" I'm sure somewhere Batman is not complaining either.

That's what I'm talking about. We don't have to have "Batman" in the title to know it's a Batman movie. Well said.
