What is the worst kind of nerd?

I generally find Trekkies to be the overall best fandom. Sure, there's the Abrams divide which can get pretty obnoxious, but Trek fandom is so spread out over so many series and such a long period of time, and has such a huge emphasis on multiculturalism and tolerance and progressive egalitarian socialism, that Trek fans for the most part seem to be the most well adjusted with much more of a life outside of the fandom and the least shockingly racist.

I don't frequent any Trek boards, but this is how I see it too. I don't get the whole Abrams thing anyway.

Yeah, but there you have that really weird intersection of Star Trek nerds and MMO nerds. And MMO nerds in general are like a 9.8 on the shockingly racist scale.

true i guess

but i have met fans that only believe TNG is canon and if you like DS9 or Voyager you aren't a true fan.

Sports enthusiasts is the politically correct term. :o

Add in homophobic and xenophobic and you got the whole unpretty picture. :awesome:

Massive Multiplayer Online?

Massive Multiplayer Online, and there are several branches like Real Time Strategy, Roll Playing Game and Shooters.

Thank you everyone. I never get into that, so I'm not familiar with it.

Ah yes. There is that.

That's the Roddenberry divide. There are plenty of Star Trek fans who claim that anything that deviates from Gene Roddenberry's vision isn't true Star Trek, even though they almost universally bas that on Gene Roddenberry's rules for Star Trek: The Next Generation, which were vastly different from how The Original Series was run and which he created after he'd been hailed the god of nerds and had developed an enormous and completely unreasonable ego about what Star Trek represented culturally and how it was his job to safeguard that. They completely ignore the fact that A) Besides having serialized storytelling and more civilian characters DS9 doesn't really do anything that TOS didn't do, and B) Gene's rules for TNG were terrible. Yeah, those guys are basically the AT&T of people.

Yeah, MMOs have become a safe haven for 14 year old white supremacists. Possibly because the first ones were based on the Dungeons and Dragons model of everything being divided up by (fictional) races and being really indulgently violent.

I could never understand the appeal of these type of games. No offense to anyone who enjoys them, but I don't get it.

There's a difference though. The people that get online and play for fun, stress relief, whatever is one thing...when they talk about it outside of the game like it's a life style...that's over the top nonsense.

I like those types of games, it's the other people (the trolls and dregs of society) playing it that bother me.

I particularly hate LibidoLoca because no matter what everyone does, she always has the very best avatars.

I'm with you 110% Drizzle.

They creep me the **** out.

It's creepy how they dress in shady clothes and hang around the toy aisle for little girls. Worse is when every other word out of their mouth, while they're criticizing toys marketed to little girls mind you, is some kind of profanity.

Then there's the enthusiastic ones who make it sound like the cartoon (for little girls) has George RR Martin-tier writing and plotting.:o

Wow, that's quite a high horse you've got there. Did you give it steroids or did it get that big naturally?

I never said I wasn't part of that 99%. It's not something I'm proud of, but every so often I fall into the category.

But, hey, nice attitude. As always, a complete pleasure to be in your presence. :o

Personally,I can't stand the anti-prequel Star Wars fans.

It's one thing to not like the prequel/Special editions.Even hate them. But I'm talking about the "Lucas should never get his unclean hands anywhere near the films again!!!:cmad:" division.

I mean,I don't like every choice/change he made,but at the end of the day,they're his *&#$% films.:whatever:

I was just about to post about them. Saying you like something about the prequels is tantamount to agreeing with Hitler's final solution.
also RLM is not the Gospel written by God without fallacy. I dislike when I am in a discussion about the prequels and RLM is brought up…"What you can;t articulate what you disliked about this movie?"

People threatening to kill anyone for making decisions they don't like…not just in comics…i know people were advocate killing Lucas for the prequels

For Indy 4 too probably.

Good points. It's not like you're obligated to go watch them or anything.

the worst thing was they were harassing his daughter on her Twitter because of the prequels.
