i don't know nothing about the comics but wasn't spiderman absolutely vital in the civil war?

wat with dofp and aou obviously some of the movie versions of these subtitles don't get made sticking to the source material, but given all the hype behind spiderman being in the civil war in the comics renewed after the announcement of cap 3, it's very easy to say a lot of people will be disappointed to see spidey not involved, or replaced, or it not even being close to the source material.

not saying they can't still make a good movie out of it tho. but it'd be another damn missed opportunity.

What should they do with the current franchise? They should take ASM 1 & 2 and put it into a capsule and launch it into the sun. Wait twenty years and start fresh.

A lot of people would look like your avatar if that happened.

:funny:

Edit: It's twice as funny because the sun is in Tobey's face.

Spidey played a huge role in Civil War. He was a main/central character along with Captain America and Iron Man. That said...... .. they could restructure it and fill his role with someone else. But make no mistake....... it wouldn't have the same scope and gravitas as "Iron Man vs. Captain America, with Spider-Man in the middle".

ya but like I said there would be a good amount of people disappointed in seeing spidey replaced and it would be another damn missed opportunity to bring him into the mcu. there's no getting around that.

In the midst of all the "Will Spidey join the MCU" hoopla, I actually forgot how much I had hated his role in Civil War back in the day. I always thought that revealing his identity to the public goes against everything that Spider-Man stands for. So much for responsibility when outing himself will throw all his loved ones into the spotlight, which comes with a nice side dish of mortal danger. He would have little-to-no control over who would be made a target.

If they DO do that... what kind of long term plans could they have, with the secret identity out of the equation? There's a reason they eventually retcon-reverted that decision in the comics. I can't believe it took me so long to start thinking about this, lol.

They don't have to include the unmasking. His involvement went beyond that, and can work without it.

That said...... Infinity War will likely see some form of a reboot take place. At least considering that the comics storyline sees half the Marvel universe get wiped out, only to have Thanos's actions rebooted, and the chacters brought back (Thanks to a certain character already introduced in the MCU that I won't name).

So.... they could have that happen, and have it undone then.

no more spidey reboots. get andrew garfield into the mcu since his films come out in the same time frame as the current marvel films.

Could see them bring back dead characters at the end of Infinity but not as some sort of reboot. Would hope that they retain their memories. It will make them realise just how big the universe is and we will be able to see how it effected them.

Yeah. I think civil war would have been perfect whether it was a new version or the Webbiverse version. I'm personally leaning towards cleaning the slate and focusing on a new story or aspect of the Spiderverse whether it be a reboot or a ASM3 . The next film has to be something different from the last 5, it just has to be. Being bogged down in Oscorp and the Osborn family, revisiting his love woes, Having more villains who are decent guys gone bad, growing into adulthood etc is just not enough , and we've been there before through two franchises now. That's why its so stagnant. At a certain point they're gonna have to think beyond just focusing on the Highschool to college years with Gwen, MJ, the Osborns, and Oscorp. The need to broaden the horizons of the character and the challenges he faces.

But that's kinda missing the point. Dealing with those characters and "normal life v superhero life" is pretty much at the very heart of what makes him beloved by tens of millions. Even when they really thought out of the box (superior) those themes and characters remained, it's like saying Episode 7 shouldn't have Jedi, Lightsabers or the Force.

Obviously they are going beyond just doing movie 3, 4 etc by having spin off films and crossing elements over and building a big universe around Spidey.

I'd rather Phase 3 was just Civil War and Avengers 3 p1 & p2 focused on the two different sides.

I'd rather Spidey was in Civil War as street level heros in cosmic marvel seems bizzare to me IMO.

They'll definitely retain their memories. It's more of a reset than a reboot.

I think they wanted to tackle Thanos with the current crop of actors in the MCU. How can you face such a grave threat if all those familiar faces have moved on? They wanted this to really be the culmination of the cinematic Avengers as we know them. These characters will clearly be getting a long and well deserved break after that film(s).

As far as adding these characters back into the MCU, it can be done. I think Spidey will start off as a somewhat underpowered street hero villain. Once Marvel gets him back, I don't think they would bother with solo films, rather they'd create multiple protagonist stories and arcs that cover a much greater scope. I think the DD series is the beginning of this.

Clearly, Marvel is going to have to find a way to get these characters back by PIV if they have grand designs on including Spidey in the current continuity. I hope it happens sooner than later. I think the street level stuff is where you want to keep Spiderman, before becoming an Avenger or fighting Thanos.

I'd kind of like to see Ock go up against some other heroes.

its fair to say if marvel are not sitting twiddling their thumbs waiting for spider-man to go back to them, they have their stuff planned out for the next few years and they will have dozens of characters already for the infinity war

iron man
captain america
hulk
thor
guardians of the galaxy
inhumans (whether thats where scarlett witch and quicksilver are from)
ant man
black panther
Dr Strange
capt marvel

whether you count the current side characters who will likely appear in more films along the way, only naming a few of course

black widow
hawk eye
falcon
war machine
nick fury
Loki
vision

i don't think marvel would throw in a fresh rebooted spider-man into that mix from now to 2021 and then i personally can't see where the MCU will be at that point, marvel are speeding along at a fast pace and infinity war sounds like a huge deal to this universe

Yes.

Reboot would be the last thing they want to do, as of now.

Just merge the Spidey universe with the MCU, for ****'s sake.

Why should they dilute the quality of the current MCU by merging two crap stories into it?

Reboot the hell out of it, just open in media res with Pete's webslinging career already underway. There's no need to tell the origin again except in vague flashback and you avoid any mention of Sony's bungled-by-committee cash grabs. Win win.

ASM1's story is fine.

But I'd be fine with a reboot if it was rebooted in the MCU. What I meant was that Sony creating yet another Spidey universe (I.E rebooting again) would be ridiculous.

I agree. Marvel seems to have everything mapped out until phase 3. I think the latest we would see Spider-Man in a MCU movie would be 2020/2021.

I would call it 'passable' at best but 2 was such a godawful mess it retroactively soured me on the first one.

Definitely, if it was just ASM1 I think Marvel wouldn't have too much problems integrating it, but with ASM2 I doubt Marvel would want it anywhere near the MCU. The complete wasting of Norman Osborn alone would be enough. The guy is Peter's greatest enemy and Sony kill him off without ever even being the Green Goblin.

TASM1 story was fine. I didn't mind Lizard, would have done other stuff myself but the overall story was fine. Not good or bad but fine.

TASM2 didn't even have a story.

What I meant with 'fine' was pretty much passable - seems like we're on the same page.

ASM2 kinda non-existent story made be appreciate ASM1's story more, though, instead of growing sour on it.

I feel the same way.
