The Dark Knight What Will TDK's Rating / Certificate Be?

I agree with what you are saying, but the kids these are into Spider-Man than Batman or Superman and I see kids wearing Spider-Man costume or shirts more. 12A sounds good I enjoyed BB with that rating anyways.

Yeah, when i said kids, i pretty much meant teens. im sure that the 12-18 demographic is pretty huge for batman, leave the pretty colours of spiderman and supes to the little children. :woot:

Like I said before directors get away with a lot of violence these days, it's sex that's still the big tatoo, joker's violence is alright but no hanky panky with Harley. (I guess I'll just have to make my own home video).

Oh ok.:o

but i think we need Joker to be nasty. bloody nasty.

im thinking the way how nasty Joker was on Jason Todd

the Batman of the 80s and especially Miller's DKR established that, and made it a standard for the portrayal of the Joker

i'm not sure if they could pull it off with a PG 13, could they?
(if they could, then great :) )

the trick to making him as brutal as possible without acheiving an R rating is subtley, camera tricks and lots and lots of assumptions on the audiences part. I dont think i want to see joker gunning down babies on screen.

"Funny Games " is the most violent film I've seen in my life and there isn't any gore or one single drop of blood onscreen (be warned not for kids!)

I'm all for a PG-13 rating but I'm wondering with all the brutality of the Joker's actions if it will hit R territory. But I do believe it will push the boundary.

theres no chance in hell that it will be rated R, the film will get hacked to pieces before it ever gets released in the cinema with an R rating.

PG 13 movies are very violent these days, it's the sex the censors have a problem with, like Nicholson, the Joker himself, once said you can show a man cutting a woman's breast with an axe but you can't show him caressing it. What a strange world we live in.

It's already been hacked at according to gillberg

The first draft was even darker (it wouldn't have made PG-13 without some editing) and had several more deaths/significantly less screen time for certain characters. Quite a powerful story. I hope it's essence remains in tact in the final film.

^wow i hope we get a hold of that script after the film comes out.

the comics weren't put on the top shelf, so an R-Rating adds nothing and alienates the main readers of comic books: kids and teenagers.

I really hope it is not a 12A.

God I would love an 18 certificate batman or at least a 15. As far as I am concerned the darker, grittier and more adult orientated this new batman film by Nolan is (in A Clockwork Orange type of way), the better. I appreciate, however, that from a commericial point of view films have to be toned down so they are suitable for kids because kids = $$$

I sincerely hope that WB don't put too much pressure on Nolan to tone the film down to the mandatory 12A but i suspect it will be unfortunately.

What is a 12a or 15 "certificate"? Is that how they rate things in other countries?

Yeah in Great Britain the ratings are: -

U = for everyone
PG = parental guidance
12A = suitable for 12 years and older. If younger than 12, has to be accompanied by an adult
15 = 15 years and over
18 = 18 years and over

A 12A is what I suppose you Americans call a PG-13 and an 18 (i.e. you have to be over 18 to watch) is what you call an R.

It is sad to hear that the Dark Knight is being hacked to pieces already to make it a 12A/PG-13.

I wonder why films can't be released with an R rating and a PG-13 rating simultaneously. Seems perfectly logical to me and adults would then be able to see the film how it was meant to be and kids could see their version.

Now I'm up for 18 rating Batman film much as anybody here, just because a movie gets 18 rating doesn't mean the movie is going be excellent. Didn't you enjoy Batman Begins (12A)? I certainly the enjoyed, ratings are nothing to me only ratings are important when you take kids to the movies other then that its nothing.

Some people just don't get it.

Batman is not some uber-dark and uber-violent material.

It's basically American mythology and should be suitable for all ages.

Batman is not "The Punisher" or "Freddy Kruger".

Some people think R rated movies means a better quality flick

Don't be so arrogant to assume we "just don't get it". Just because Batman appeals to a wide demographic doesn't mean every interpretation should. BB already excluded a portion of it.

It's not arrogance. I am simply bored of people who want guts'n'gore and violence in a Batman movie so they can feel "adult". Because they fear to be a fan of something which is very popular with the kids.

That's a big assumption, "guts n gore" is a pretty simplistic reason why the film could get an R. There are lots of other valid reasons

I'm a Batman fan since I became 4 years old or something. It's just sad how this character was taken away from the kids when you look in the comics of today. Violence and sex, for it's own sake. If I had children I wouldn't let them read the Batman-of-today. Why can't some people just release there character and leave them the kids? "All Ages" is a good approach. :ninja:

Every time I see people saying they want Batman to be rated R I remember that Simpsons episode where Proffessor Frink has a bubble roller toy...

"Can I play wif it?"

"No! For you cannot enjoy it on as many levels as I can!"

I'll take that to mean that violence and gore is secondary to good storytelling.
