Days of Future Past What you didn't like about X-Men:DOFP - Flaws/Critiques

I gave the movie an A+ but I do have one question. McAvoy Xavier was given all the information he needed and everything that happened post the meeting of the two Xavier's didn't require Wolverine to be there at all, so why wasn't Wolverine brought back sooner? What I mean is that everything would have played out the same in the third act whether Wolverine was there to witness it or not, right?

Prof X said he saw a glimpse of the past and they needed more time. Plus, they were still there so the timeline hadn't changed yet. It was all or nothing at tha point, from what I gathered.

Well, the version played by January Jones should not come back in any timeline. LOL That actress was terrible for the role. :csad:

She wasn't that bad. She had a few decent scenes. I think with more to do, she could have been better. She's a pretty decent actress.

The Wolverine never happened. :oldrazz:

Yes it did. I've noticed that some people are still confused about the timelines, its really no that hard. All movies were actually canon but now that Wolverine has changed the past, it changed EVERYTHING. Althought he most drastic changes are from X3.

I didn't like that Xavier got his legs back. Kind of felt like a cop out so that Mcavoy didn't have to be in a wheelchair.

But the drug addiction was kinda interesting.

Maybe becasue they still needed him, they had no other mutant friends at that point.

Just as i feared, most of the mutants in the future sequences were just card board cut outs with different super powers.

Quicksilver was beyond awesome. But it was contrived and convenient that he wasn't involved with the rest of the story. He's clearly the most powerful mutant in any of these films thus far, yet he's not involved in the battle that will decide the future of the mutant and human race?

I don't think the future Sentinels were too overpowered, they still managed to take down a few in the end. If it was slightly easier to destroy them then they wouldn't have been able to kill all humans and mutants, Jean(if she was alive) would have been enough to make them dust.

Sequel, Dark Pheonix Vs Sentinels.

I think Nicholas Hoult is a flaw to this. He could have easily been cut out other than doing a few gadgety things and flying the plane. He was good but not great. I think he plays Beast too timid and doesn't seem like an intellectual. He seems so shy and reserved. Obviously he still isn't the proud Beast, but I think they can make him seem a bit more lively. But hey he's been stuck with a drugged out Xavier for years so I can understand him not being chippy. I just felt that Kelsey's 3 second cameo was better than anything Nicholas did in the whole movie. I think it's just Kelsey's voice because it's just so Beast lol.

I keep seeing you say this, and while I can see where you're coming from(kinda), I don't know what you were expecting? I felt like they all served their purpose to what little time they had for them. It showed their powers, what they were up against, and what their purpose was for the story.

Are you just bummed that some of your favorite mutants weren't used more?

Come on the X-Men films have worked hard at keeping it at least realistic. Yes there is killer robots and mutants etc but they have been grounded in reality and have even been used in real world events to keep it as realistic as possible. I know Apocalypse will go into a bit more of extreme territory but I'm glad they don't do the aliens and dinosaurs stuff. I like that it is very much about humans vs mutants and the mutants who are trying to protect everyone. That's just me anyway.

In time, they will expand it. Those things were too outlandish back when X1 came out, and future films built on that. Now we're getting Apocalypse who extends the real-world setting into something else. We could get much more than that in later films.

Then X-Men can remain the limited franchise that it is, I guess.

In DOFP, it seemed like Wolverine went back to save their own asses, as opposed to the humans...so. :o

But yeah, Apocalypse will change everything, DOFP is just putting these otherworldly changes in motion.

Wasn't Logan in Vietnam in the early 70s? They're lucky he was in NYC when they sent his consciousness back.

Virtually no team! I mean there was one in the future but I wanted more team dynamics in the past. I didn't realize they basically got rid of the First Class. I was at least expecting Havok, Beast and a few new recruits as the early X-men but Alex was in one scene and it was just Beast with Xavier. Tagged along with Wolverine and Magneto for the bulk of the film, made for a boring lineup. I preferred the dynamics in the future, brief as they were. Those fighting sequences were so much better

I also hated that they completely glossed over Xavier's death in X3. That was a big glaring hole that should have been addressed

I thought the after credits scene in X3 explained how he was still alive.

I thought the after credits scene in X3 explained how he was still alive.

He died as far as the Xmen and the world was concerned. All X3 did was reveal that his consciousness was somewhere in some coma patient. He shows up in this film as if the events of that film for him didn't happen. His body was completely obliterated, so how does he have it back? That's huge and IMO, should have been addressed in some form. A small convo with Xavier and Magneto could have cleared up things surrounding this. The movie did ignore it

I think they split up the two sides of team work in this movie, in past and future. The future mutants were well-sized in numbers and used their combined abilities in a very entertaining spectacle. However, since that's about all they do, there was no time for substantial pathos to be shown. Those were all given to the past mutants who barely consist of a real X-team.
