Shadow of The Vampire. Damn, Willem Dafoe just blew my ****ing mind

The Godfather
The Godfather Part II

Tonight... The Godfather Part III. I've never seen it before, but I'm well aware of their place in pop culture, so I'm going in prepared.

If you get past Sophia Coppola, Godfather Part III is actually a great film. If anything it's worth watching for Michael's story.

Scent of a Woman - 9/10

Al Pacino is just a ****ing boss. Don't know if I prefer young Pacino or older Pacino. Though I gotta see Serpico and And Justice For All before I can really decide.

Spiderman 2.
Not as great as I think it was when it was released but still very good.

I loved it. Such a huge leap better than the first one. It was for me like a good mix of the comic, cartoon and the toys.
8.5/10

I've watched a number of movies that past few weeks (health stuff has kept me inside a lot more than I'd hope)

V/H/S - A- ... my kind of movie. Amazing concept, leaves your mind wandering (if you keep it open to begin with.

Grave Encounters - B- ... like Quarantine mixed with Ghost Hunters. Entertaining.
Grave Encounters 2 - B- ... same deal.

Silent House - B ... Elizabeth Olsen is better than her sisters, movie was pretty interesting, not amazing.

Quarantine 2 - C+ ... Eh, kept me interested long enough.

Apartment 143 - C- ... Nothing but jump scares, but had a couple of interesting scenes.

Red State - A ... incredible movie. Kevin Smith is a genius. He really captured what hate and intolerance can lead our society to. There were some plot holes, but overall it was great.

Chronicle - B- ... had great moments, but overall was just an attempt at a superhero film without the superhero label. I liked it, but it wasn't all that amazing.

GI Joe Retaliation - B- ... too much ninja, not enough soldier. But in the end, it's basically what you'd expect from a GI Joe film. Better than the original (not that that means much).

This upcoming weekend, Evil Dead (been waiting 10+ years for this) and The Host. Girl I'm going with likes Stephanie Meyer, liked the book, loves Evil Dead and is a gorgeous punk of Ukrainian decent... when they ask you to go see The Host, you go see The Host.

Just watched it last night...

I wouldn't say great, but good. Sophia Coppola was as bad as I'd heard. Just awful. I still think the concepts and general character arcs are sound, but the execution of much of it was lacking. You can definitely feel FF Coppola was being crunched on this one. Pacino didn't feel at all like Michael in this one. I understood the reasoning behind it, but it was too drastic and they didn't quite carry it off. He felt like the caricature Pacino became in the 90's. Speaking of the 90's, that's exactly when it looks like this movie takes place, not '79 as it was meant to be. Then again, I have a similar problem with the incredible Part II... The Michael sections of that film were set in the 50's, but were shot in the 70's... And it looked like the 70's, to me.

Overall, yeah, it was good. I can't say I was disappointed, because I went in expecting Batman & Robin style drop in quality, but instead got Spider-Man 3.

Bit of a forgotten gem this one.

Can you believe I've never watched it before today? My mom had it on VHS forever but I never got around to seeing it. It was near Arlington Road on her shelf and I always went for rewatching that one instead. :D

Still, it was damn good. Bonus points for featuring the the always great J.T. Walsh.

Also I made it a 'Kidnapped Significant Other Daily Double Easter Sunday' and followed it up with The Vanishing, which I've seen a bunch. This is where my Sandy B crush got it's start :O

Watched Last Action Hero through Crackle. Not the best thing ever, but, still a fun film with some killer tracks from Megadeath, Buckethead & Alice in Chains.

The Place Beyond the Pines

Unlike a critic who gave away a key plot twist in The Place Beyond the Pines, who will remain nameless....
ah screw it :Joe Neumaier of the NEW YORK DAILY NEWS,I will only speak of what is shown in the trailer.
Ryan Gosling as Luke Glanton is a daredevil motorcycle rider in a traveling carnival, upon finding out he
has a son with a local Schenectady, New York waitress Eva Mendes as Romina, he decides to plant his roots and takes a job as
a mechanic which doesnt pay well so he turns to robbing banks.
Bradley Cooper as Avery Cross who lives in the same city of Schenectady, New York,is a rookie cop trying to
rise above the corruption that surrounds him.

The Place Beyond the Pines is about father's and sons, trying to escape the shadow of and sins of the father.
What a person will do when they want to hold on to whats rightfully theirs. How one persons path and decisions
effects another and so on and so on forever changing one's destiny or fate, and what makes one distant and estranged.
Lives criss cross and the paths and roads taken by the characters that inhabit the film become synonymous with the beautifully shot
journeys down the road taken from an aerial view.
Director Derek Cianfrance masterfully handles the shift in tones from taking a fun family picture to an act of violence,
a partially viewed faces raising tension and suspense, and a desperate phone call.

Gosling and Mendes have terrific chemistry. They both make you feel every moment whether if its a a high or low one,
when they are on the screen.Cooper does a fine job as a character that is consistently transforming, but still carrying
the weight of his actions with him throughout his transformation.Praise to the rest of the cast including Rose Byrne,Ray Liotta ,
Dane DeHaan ,Bruce Greenwood,Ben Mendelsohn and Robert Clohessy.

The last half hour becomes predictable and is not as strong as the films first 2 acts, but The Place Beyond the Pines is an almost perfect
union of a crime thriller and a compelling family drama.

Scale of 1-10 an 8½
