The Island (2005): I had not seen this movie prior to this weekend. I remember a lot of my friends telling me that the movie got some undeserved hate, and that it was a pretty decent movie.
Anyway, this movie is definitely one of Michael Bay's better endeavors, so it's pretty good judging on that scale, haha. Overall, though, I think it's a movie that had quite a bit of promise in its story (the premise was good; similar to the likes of THX 1138 and Logan's Run) and its actors. I can't say this is a really good or great movie though, as many of the action scenes kind of bored me and weighed the film down as a whole. It's not a bad movie either, though. It's serviceable enough for one viewing, nothing more.
Sucker Punch (2011): Well, I tried to watch this for the second time this weekend, but I didn't care to finish it. It's not "the worst movie ever" from what many have said, but it's certainly a frustrating movie. I'm not one to point fingers at this movie and say how sexist it is, because I don't think it was coming from a sexist standpoint. It was going for something deeper than that, and it was just that the execution was bad. The final product told me that Snyder was in way over his head when putting his vanity project from paper to camera. This movie definitely could have been something more, but it's not. Worst movie ever, though? Nope. It's definitely not a good film though.
