Just watched Joe.

Best Nic Cage film in years. Like a dirty, twisted version of Mud. Brilliant.

I watched Winter's Tale on a plane. I felt like walking out. :o

Pacific Rim, because I was in a good mood for giant robots punching giant monsters.

Watched Enemy starring Jake Gyllenhaal a few hours ago...

Still working out the details in my head...figuring out what was what and where the pieces go. I think I have a decent grasp of it, but I'm going to watch it again in a few minutes to make sure my mind is straight on what the movie was all about.

GREAT movie! I could do without a certain symbolism detail, but whatever, I'm over that. Definitely in my top 5 of the year so far...probably top 3.

The Abominable Dr. Phibes.

I never get tired of Price movies.

Silver Linings Playbook. Been enjoying some good films, lately.

Transformers: Age of Extinction

This is a longish review but no spoilers.

The previous three movies went from great entertainment to acceptable entertainment. This one was disappointing. I really didn't like the story at all. Kelsey Grammar's Harold Attinger was all around terrible. Nothing made him a redeemable or likable character whereas Stanley Tucci's Joshua Joyce at least had a change of heart and a good intention behind his mostly vile actions. Even the assassin, Savoy at least had a justifable reason for his actions (even if the main one was still money like Attinger's).

The pacing was off too. Long times of slow paced story followed by extensive action scenes and Michael Bay explosions. With a run time of over 2.5 hours it actually gave me a headache watching it.

The big thing I wanted to see, the main reason to even see it in the theater, the Dinobots, felt too short and weakly executed by comparison to the over-long time it took to finally see them. They were the most anticipated part of the movie for a lot of people and it felt like they were underused.

I'm not sure I will see a sequel after this. If I do, it will be on Netflix. Unless there is a drastic change in the production and story which, come on, this is Michael Bay: There won't be.

2.5/5

Edit: I forgot I also saw Delivery Man.

It's about a man who inadvertently becomes the father of 533 children after a sperm bank mishap ends up using his donations extensively. It's a nice movie. There is a lot of emotional scenes and comedy and of course the story ends on a happy ending.

3/5
