You know, when I first saw this in the theater I really didn't like it all. I haven't seen the movie since then, so I was very curious whether or not my opinion would change after rewatching it, and I'm glad to say that it did.

I think the movie has beautiful cinematography, refreshingly tight pacing (which quite honestly is something most other Bond movies could benefit from), and I especially liked how it's more of a personal story for Bond. The Bond movies that focus on the character tend to be my favorites.

On the other hand, the fast-cutting during actions scenes is seriously ****ing atrocious, it has perhaps the most forgettable Bond villains ever, and I didn't appreciate all the high-techy stuff in MI6 after they bent over backwards with Casino Royal to really ground the franchise in some semblance of reality again. I also wish it stood on its own more and didn't feel like a coda to Casino Royale.

All in all I came away really impressed with the movie, and I would like to give it a higher score, but I feel like the flaws are too critical to the overall quality of the film to gloss over.

Watching Insidious Chapter 2 right now, just to kill some time. I love these creepy horror movies.

Another horror movie I watched recently that was... interesting to say the least:

Very bizarre and disturbing movie, but was definitely a different take on a classic horror element.

Yeah, you know I think that movie has its share of flaws but overall it really stands on the good side of Bond movies (most people forget that a lot of Bond movies are quite terrible). But also, it had A LOT to live up to after the brilliant Casino Royale, which is why I believe it was heavily criticized at that time. Glad you enjoyed it this second time around.

Me too. Though I would very much disagree that "a lot" of the Bond movies are terrible.

Diamonds Are Forever, Octopussy, and Die Another Day are the only ones I would call terrible. Additionally I would say Live and Let Die and Moonraker are kind of bad. Beyond that though, the worst thing I could say about any of the other Bond flicks would be that they're mediocre, but enjoyable.

Well yeah, with 23 movies, I think "a lot" it's a relative term. But you know what I mean. The bar wasn't set too high until Casino Royale.

Snow White: A Tale of Terror

This is the more faithful re-telling of the Grimm fairytale complete with all the darkness and violence you'd expect. Sigourney Weaver and Sam Neil are in it and although all the actors are decent, it bored me. I wasn't really invested in watching this movie.

Disappointing that after all this time (I remember when it hit the shelves of Blockbuster but never rented it) I finally see it and was let down.

I watched Popeye earlier tonight.

I freaking loved this movie as a kid (partially because I loved the Popeye cartoons as a kid, too). Robin Williams is great as Popeye, and Shelley Duvall is scarily perfect as Olive. I know this movie has the reputation of being one of the biggest flops of its time, but whatever. I think it's a really cute movie, and for a full-length movie adaptation of Popeye, it does a pretty great job.

Secondhand Lions. Glad I got me a copy now.

I've always been extremely hesitant to say the latest thing in a series is my favorite. I feel like it's far too easy to get swept up in the hype and be blinded by the shiniest newest thing, too easily forgiving it of its faults, and forgetting all the great predecessors that came before it. But god damn if Skyfall isn't an incredible movie.

I liked Daniel Craig as Bond in his previous two outings, but he really made the role his own in this movie and solidified him as my favorite Bond yet. (Assuming he doesn't somehow **** up the next two movies.) Naomi Harris was great, and I loved the idea of Moneypenny being a field agent. Javier Bardem gave us a future classic Bond villain in Silva. Ralph Fiennes wasn't in the film much, but I very much look forward to his portrayal of M in future movies. Speaking of M, I know Judi Dench has been somewhat decisive among Bond fans, but I always liked her and felt she got a fantastic sendoff in Skyfall. I'm not even going to get into the technical aspects of the film, but sufice it to say, I think it was all top notch work.

The film isn't without its drawbacks however. I know it was the 50th anniversary and everything, but I feel like it was perhaps a little too nostalgic for its own good. Having the classic Aston Martin is one thing, but putting an ejector seat and machine guns in it as well? Come on. I also roll my eyes at the Dark Knight-isms in the movie. Oh, you're telling me the eccentric bad guy got captured ON PURPOSE? And it's all part of some big scheme? Gee I haven't seen that a dozen times in the last few years.

Having said that though, whatever flaws the film may have are pretty minor when looking at the big picture. I don't think there's such a thing as perfect movie, and certainly not a perfect James Bond movie, but for my money Skyfall is as close to a perfect Bond movie as one could reasonably expect.
